... also by how few vendors were coming up to us. I expected it to be a constant stream of local people passing by yelling out "sarong, sarong... cheap jewelry... foot massage... rings... looking is free, just look... try on..." and whatever other epithets they use. One of the reasons I never wanted to come to Kuta was because of how much I've heard about how annoying these vendor people are. The only time it got bad was when you actually took half a minute ...

Monkey Forest

... yesterday," "today," and "tomorrow." We played games with them with the new words they learned and everyone was more than willing to participate. The most annoying part of any class is when all the kids are too afraid to say the wrong answer and don't even try. Grade 4 is completely the opposite, making it by far the most enjoyable class to teach. Since neither Suzanne nor Franzi had been to the Monkey Forest yet, I gladly went with them. I could spend hours in there ...

... cup your hands in front of you as if you were drinking water. He would pour the water in your hands and then you would drink. You drink three times and then the fourth time you bring the water up over your head and dump it onto your head. Lastly, the priest would sprinkle the holy water one more time over your head. It was all a very fascinating process, but even though I wanted to take part it in and immerse myself fully in the culture, I couldn't drink the water. First, I was ...

Denpasar - VSO Workshop - Motorradtraining

Post-retreat joys

... site and witness 80 year old little Balinese women carrying heavy concrete blocks on their heads. That is how they get supplies to the site- by little old women! I love it here, although feeling anxious to leave. I know if I stay too much longer it'd be easy to slip into life here and months could go by. So, I'm trying to stay focused on my path, while still enjoying my time here. I know I'll be back again. And again. And again.

... it out to us. Himi, NOOOOOOOOOOO. Hami !!! There was only one, so we set off. A quick knock, and there was Hamish, who told us that Jo's plane was stuck on the tarmac in Sydney !!! And there I was complaining about my missing bag. So Lucy and I investigated the room and stole anything that wasn't nailed down !!! For payment, the done thing was to get Hamish ****** instead !!! Finding a bar in this monstrosity was hard, but he had a map !!! Yes, a map for a ****ing hotel ...

New Age Ubud

... you just show up then the answer is yes. Oh well, that's part of the adventure. We even got a bonus upon exiting Ubud by serendipitously hiring of the street the nicest taxi driver in the whole world to take us to the airport (Kadek) who gave us a nice going away gift by explaining every aspect of Balinese life and philosophy we could think to ask him in the hour long trip. We really enjoyed our time in Ubud. It's a great place and a must see if you are in Indonesia. It has a charm that ...

... at Kuta due to the smaller waves and many surf schools based there. Kuta is always jumping and is more of a place to surf or socialize then relax. Bali has a big number of surfers (mostly Aussies) and more surf shops than you can count. My favorite beach on the island was called Dreamland Beach, which is in the south near Uluwatu. Dreamland is a quieter beach set against some cliffs with very few vendors and a handful of laid back ...

Well this is now a joint travelogue! lucy ...

... amazing. Its a fairly quite location but with Kuta just down the road there is plenty of nightlife on hand. There are also far too many hawkers in Kuta though, who constantly hassle you for timeshare or try and sell you allsorts of junk. We finally worked out a way to put them off though & every time someone approaches us, we turn on our made up language, which is somewhere between Chinese & Swedish. This really does the trick and also gives us a giggle at the same ...
