Galle, a town of many sensations
... quality in New Galle (not the old Galle Fort which sits much higher) and the surrounding beach areas. We noticed painted signs on some of the fishing boats that said they were donated by various organizations. The Great Tsumini of 2011
... there was a mistake in the reporting from the weather buoys. On the day of the tsunami the swells where 21 feet which is still a hell of a lot higher, but the road out in front of our hotel measures only 7 feet above median sea level. Bear in mind, thats not at high tide. At high tide the road would only be about a three feet above the waves on a normal day.

Unawatuna and Galle
... new Sri Lankan friends. We hired a tuk-tuk and travelled 10 minutes down the road to the fort town of Galle. For reason, possibly the extreme heat, Paul hastily agreed to a room in a rather shabby guesthouse with frilly edges masking a multitude of sins. It had a great location as it was opposite the Lighthouse, but it was pretty awful and the service was very poor.
