We're off to Kuranda today. Situated about half an hour away from Cairns up in the Rainforest, it was originally a timber and mining town to which they built a railway. It became a holiday village in the 1920's and was take over by the hippies in the 60's. These days it is Tourist Central but has a Butterfly 'House' similar to that at Melbourne Zoo that specialises in local butterflies. A visit is on T's must do list. We went to the furthers reef and saw many different fish. Parrot fish, anemoniefish (Nemo), star fish, sea horse, and many others! We also saw so much coral like the brain coral, and many others! It was so awesome to see the fish and the coral swaying and swimming with the rough waters! Thank god I didn't see any sharks. I was a little worried but I was not going to miss the experience because of a ...

... grocery store to pick up some lunch items to have a picnic lunch at the waterfront. We walked to a park by the Swimming Lagoon where there were many picnic tables and benches. Along the the Esplanade there are also several barbecue grills for public use. The swimming lagoon is a huge swimming pool since the water at this spot cannot be used for swimming. This pool is different because along one side of it is a sand beach leading into the ...

A day at the lagoon

We had a very quiet day today! We woke up a little later than usual and meandered our way out to the common area for breakfast and wifi. We then meandered our way down to the Esplanade, which is a large board walk right on the ocean. It has exercise equipment and a ton of bike/running space. At the end of the boardwalk is a large man made lagoon that looks like an infinity pool from the far end. It ...
