Udon Thani, Thailand naxOn Tuesday the 4th December we flew to Udon Thani in North-East Thailand to do the motorcycling tour. Unfortunately as I only have passed my CBT and can only ride on L plates I can't ride over a 100cc over here so I went pillion on the back of mum's bike. Miles (Motorbike man no.1) and his wife (Buk) greeted us off the plane, took us to the hotel and then to Tesco!!! There we bought motorcycle helmets for about $5 each and went back to there house. There we met ...
Udon Thani, Thailand angela_uk... knows why that particular sitcom is the one of choice, but people really do sit their all day watching episode after episode.....very strange. Those ugly things aside, the town itself is set on a pretty little river with karst rock formations that are quite impressive. So, we skipped anything on a menu with "happy" in front of it and didn't quite succumb to the "Friends" TV cafes (though we did sit down to a movie or two) and headed for the other thing the place ...
Vientiane, Lao Peoples Dem Rep mattandnicole... even begin to describe how I felt at the end. It was amazing. I was so relaxed and had a really strong sense of wellbeing, I felt radiant! I don't know how it works, but it made me feel amazing! I'd recommend it to anyone. I'm actually thinking of coming back after my teaching course and doing the 4 day Reiki course they run here so I can learn to do it myself. They also have a floating bar here too which has cocktails ...
Nong Khai, Thailand vickysd... time in the quiet laid-back town of Udon. Arvid was able to get his teeth cleaned; something he'd promised his dental therapist he'd do and report back to her. The report is that they don't do as thurough a job as they do back home. Took about 10 minutes but only cost about $9. Also, he picked up some lipitor made by Fizer; 90 tabs for $200. Not cheap but better than RiteAid. We hated to leave Udon, but we had to move on and Pat needed her father back full time again.
Udon Thani, Thailand yoni... 6 months later seems entirely logical. On the tourist front, we took our bikes to a sculpture park. Intended as a monument to religious belief and understanding, its too higgledy piggledy to be understood at any deep narrative level. But at the level of the basic male need to make pointless stuff and show it off, its deeply fulfilling. The sculptor used concrete ("because its cheap and there's lots of it"), and started of with 2ft high dogs but progressed to an ...
Nong Khai, Thailand claude_and_iain... are working at Mut Mee for the next few months) and Meleek, and generously gave away potential victories by sucking at the wrong moments. I had a conversation/argument with Nick, a former flare bartender from San Francisco, about what should be considered a sport...I would elaboarte on this, but you would just get mad at me too, since my defintion of what a sport is is extremely narrow and apparently "wrong." I talked to Julian for a while ...
Nong Khai, Thailand jknoff22... on the roof. The comforting part was that our luggage was insured up to 1000 Baht. About $25 USD. That's comforting, the bag covering our backpacks cost more than that! But an hour later we arrived - with our luggage. A bit sweaty, but we arrived. We stayed at the Pantawee Hotel. The driver of the "limo" said that it was a very nice place. Maybe so. But maybe not. It's not bad, but seemed kinda expensive for what we got. We ...
Nong Khai, Thailand thepotvins... ride. The three of us went to this awesome statue garden that had really big Buddhas and other sorts of Thai deities. My favorite statue was the giant Buddha with seven snakes rearing up behind him. The concrete statue was probably 500 feet tall, and the tongues of the snakes were twenty feet long. I felt moved to buy a little pewter statue replica of it half an inch tall. It's cute.
