... than bed, big day tomorrow, I need to be fresh.
Monday, Day 10,November 23rd, I start my “Rescue Diver” course, four days of information and practical in the water moves to handle rescue situations. (I hear I’m
P9
really going to enjoy it and it will change the way I dive) I ...
... left the room with his backpack half zipped and his clothes haphazardly spilling out of it on the dock. Stu, the Aussie guy was up and informed Jules that his bag was open and his contents all over the dock. Jules also realised that Bertie (his beloved bag) was still in the dorm along with the very necessary items of passports and bank cards so had to dash back to get it. He was therefore not amused when the ferry office was late opening up and spent the rest of ...
Utila, Islas de la Bahía, Honduras mardow... I couldn't hear my own television because the one out in the lounge area was so loud. Finally, when i finally went to bed, that was the time that all the friends of the hotel came over, turned up the already loud television, and yapped it up. I finally went out there and said something, but it didn't help much.
BTW, I just want to mention my revelation. People are so nice here in Honduras and in Guatemala. It ...
... famous banana pancakes. We caught a water taxi to West Bay and spent the afternoon there. I spent most of the time playing in the water and snorkeling while the other 4 were suntanning and swimming. It was such an awesome afternoon in a beautiful bay. Unfortunately the sun got through my 2 coats of SPF 45 and I sunburnt my whole back when I was snorkeling.
We caught a taxi back to West End and after a shower we went to the noodle house for dinner. They had some fresh tuna ...
... tailing us. The boat finally left us alone, but they had defiantly put a damper on things. In these situations it's really easy to start pointing fingers and throwing blame at people. It's instances like this that contribute to the decline in different species. When a whale shark gets scared it dives down really deep, and because they primarily live in the top 15 metres of the ocean, their gall bladders aren't designed to withstand the ...
Utila, Bay Islands, Honduras ellisa_5... this island. Even though droves of tourists flock to Utila it still made for a pleasant stop and it was a good break from the noise and pollution of La Ceiba. There is lots in the way of tourist infrastructure making it very easy to get around and basically have a good time. Also gave me a chance to sample some seafood and the shrimp and snappers did not disappoint. It was a welcome break on multiple levels. I was only there for the weekend but Edward ...
Utila, Bay Islands, Honduras matsamuel... This is the stuff of postcards and travel TV shows. Wow. - The huge fishing tournament and festival that just happened to take place while we were here. We spent a lovely afternoon lazing on the beach and watching the fishing boats comiing in to weigh the enormous fish they caught, and later we got to eat some of the best BBQ'd food we have ever had, as everyone kicked up their heels and got into the party. - Our lovely ...
West End, Honduras gregandjane... maybe more... The power goes out here quite a bit, staying out for hours at a time. We think most of the outages are controlled to conserve power. Other times it's just a truck that ran down the powerlines, which are hung loosely in the trees. It's been tough to make too many updates, but we now have quite a few pictures, this time of the world under the sea.... Will likely get them up after we get off the island in early August. Cheers
West End, Honduras boatubia... down on us in the middle of the night. Ben jerry rigged it back up until our property manager got an electrician out to fix it a few days later. In the meantime we decided to make the big fieldtrip into Coxen Hole as surely they would have a fan and while there we could get a bucket too. Ben settled on the super-powered industrial one and now we are living like royalty. You don't drink the water down here. Even the locals don't drink the water from the taps ...
West End, Honduras boatubia... I know I am being paranoid but I need to feel safe so I can relax and work through what I need to work through. The other thing I didn't realize is that in many ways this place reminds me of Old Orchard Beach, Maine; that was a favourite location for Rob and me to go. But I am here now it is after dark and too late to figure out where else I should go, so I will stay tonight; one more night afraid of man and beast in Central America. There are ants everywhere ...
