Getting closer the mountains became hills and suddenly a vast flat steppe was laid out before us and in the centre the city of Konya sprang forth and spilled out its 1.3 million inhabitants.     We stayed last night outside Antalya near to the airport. It's a district of big monstrosities of hotels each trying to outdo the other in gaudyness.     It's raining, but at least the rain's warm! Before it started we walked around a bit and realised that the hotel isn't in Antalya at all, it's on the coast where the road turns inland to go over the mountains to Cappadocia, a place called Alara and in fact is over half way to Alanya, which is where we stayed when we first came to Turkey some 40 years ago.     ... Anatalya and after more GPS misguidance, found Aspendos (Aspestos is my way of remembering it) which was an ancient Greco-Roman city. founded around 1000 BC by Greeks on the Eurymedon River. The amphitheatre has been renovated and is still used today. (More pics)
