    ... we started to tour the area near our hotel. Street vendors are everywhere and are quick to lure you into their stalls. The first sale of the day is considered good luck so shopping early can sometimes be beneficial. Actually the prices in the stalls are low to begin with so you never really feel like you could have done better. The vendor throws out the first price and you counter, followed by their final price.     ... were colourful explosions and flashes in the night. The closer to midnight we got the heavier the cracks and flashes became. Around midnight, smoke hung in the damp air and was heavy with the smell of sulphur. It looked like the coast was under siege from an invisible air raid. It was quite amazing actually, even in the rain. We started the new year like we left the last one, on the beach, than dodging motorcycles in the alley on the way back to our room.

    So today was the day we became Indonesian master chefs (well almost) �� we had an early start again as we had to be at the restaurant for 9 am.
