from start to finish our stay here was perfect. very helpful staff. heavenly atmosphere... they offer elephant rides and yoga... its a very peaceful and relaxing place. the staff is wonderful!

We enjoyed a tasting menu that included the biggest tiger shrimp either of us have ever seen, and we ordered a couple creative-sounding cocktails. ... After hiring the bikes we set off to the north of the island towards Koh Pu. It was quite a nice ride even if the road did turn into a bumpy dirt track at several points, on the way we passed various houses and small shops and hundreds of rubber trees.

... on the back resulted in us driving straight into a bend and into a ditch. After being helped by some locals and embarrassingly brushing off the concern, Kate realised she had seriously injured her knee and cut her toe open! However, we drove off in search off the animal centre which took us ages to find. When we got there we took two rescued dogs for a walk on the beach, 1 only had 3 legs but this also turned into a disaster! The sun came ...

... ragged sheets and stays for 2 or 3 hours at a time with none of the customary breaks. After the owners have packed up and gone home on the third night, the lights fizz and flicker and then suddenly the place is plunged into complete darkness, and despite a lot of fiddling with the fusebox by torchlight (probably not a good idea looking back) it stays off for the rest of the night. It could be time to move on.

... the military to step in and say, "Jai yin-yin, boys. Let's work this out peacefully." Personally, I support the protest movement in their struggle toward fair and free elections, and maybe with the military monitoring the situation progress will be made. In the meantime, we are safe and calm on Koh Lanta, and we hope tourists recognize that Thailand remains the greatest destination ...
