Trang City & Island Fever: Trang (Ko Libong/Ko Mook) & Krabi (Ko Lanta/Ko Mook), Thailand. Now, that I've finished reading my first novel on this trip, "The God of Small Things," and I'm thoroughly depressed by the journey that it took me on, I can now focus on writing about some of the most enchanting and magical places that I have seen- …
Needed a break for Christmas, had to get out of Sibu and find a beach.
So we headed off to Ko Lanta on Air Asia flights. First stop KL to do some Christmas shopping and then on to Haadyai. From airport to van terminal and van to Trang and a quick change to Ko Lanta - too easy
Surprised to see Ko Lanta has gone upmarket. Years ago …
... plus there was no wifi! I was mostly annoyed because it meant I wasn't even able to meet any new people. But once I got wifi at a restaurant I found out some friends were also staying on Ko Lanta, about 10 min away in a tuk tuk. So I spent the afternoon at their place by the pool. When I got to Pak Bara to get my minivan they took my ticket and I realized that was the last remaining proof of my payment for my journey to the tour company apart from my visa card receipt. Bungalow was wonderful but set across the road and in the trees with no view of the beach is not ideal. Extortionate and compulsory charging for a Chrismas Eve dinner even less ideal. For a far more pleasant and cheaper alternative stay at Miami just along the beach - ate and drank there and stayed well clear of the bar and restaurant at Sri Lanta. Even breakfast was disappointing - pork and more park and western food only. Why would I go to Thailand to have bacon and eggs
