March 09. We took care of a group of 140 pax coming from Portugal. One of the trip highlight was the Gala diner organize on the Elephant terrace beside Bayon Temple. Clients arrived by minibus in the location. They had to walk 100 meter with only torch along the raod to enlight their way. Champagne and canape was serve to them. The Terrace and surrounding towers and monument were  enlighten with powerfull projector. After 30 minutes cocktail drums and dancers lead the group in the direction o...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Sofitel Royal Angkor Golf&Spa Siem Reap

Fantastic Hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I stayed here during our visit to Angkor. We have travelled extensively across Europe the US and Asia and this is one of the nicer hotels we have stayed in.

We had had to delay our trip due to personal reasons and the hotel very kindly let us reschedule our stay at no extra cost (which hopefully we would get back on insurance, but a major hassle and you never know) and furthermore when we arrived we had been upgraded to a Junior Suite.

The room was lovely- wooden floors, beautifully decorated, dressing room, huge bathroom with separate bath & shower (excellent shower) and sitting room area and huge double bed.

We ate at the hotel- good standard food by the pool and then one of the best meals we have had for a long time at the Mohoul's Dream. Each course was beautifully presented and very tasty indeed. We went back again. It was $45 for 4 course menu but we thought it was worth it.

I also used the spa. It's nicely laid out and set out so that it's relaxing during treatments. This is probably a bit pricey compared to other places in town but they do have steamers for facials so I wish I had had one as a facial was $49 compared to $150+ in London.

They don't have a tennis court which I would have liked but this is only a minor thing! I read someone mentioned Mosquitos- we had brought our own Deet (100%!) from a store in the US so this wasn't too much of an issue. They could provide the stuff in the rooms but I think any traveller should just have it with them.

The staff were also extremely friendly.

We will definitely recommend to all our friends in future.

Very nice, albeit isolated

from SanFrancisoTraveler
Had a very nice visit to the Sofitel Royal Angkor, spending several nights and days there on our recent visit to the Siem Reap area. I'd describe the hotel as very similar to most other tropical luxury resorts, with nice amenities, well-appointed comfortable rooms, and very attentive staff. Sofitel does a little better with the food quality than some resorts, although the focus is on buffet-style eating, which was not our cup of tea. There is a high-end restaurant with French and Khmer cuisine, and a well-thought wine list, although the whole experience is quite pricey for the quality, particularly in this region. You'll do much better heading into town to one of the many fine and inexpensive restaurants (Madame Butterfly is a standout). And that brings up the main issue we had with the Sofitel - isolation. While the hotel/resort is closest to the temples, it's also a bit of a hassle to go anywhere outside the grounds, and this, of course, is by design.

Sofitel sanctuary

My partner and I stayed at the Sofitel Siem Reap for two nights. We had looked at the Raffles Hotel but must admit were put off by the negative reports on Trip Advisor.

I am glad to say that we had a very enjoyable stay. We found the staff to be very accommodating and our Junior Suite was everything we had hoped it would be. There are many hotels in Siem Reap but very few have the extensive grounds that the Sofitel has. I will definitely be recommending this property.

The hotel has a light airy feel to it and the decor is traditional. I do believe this hotel deserves its 5 star status and have had a very positive experience. However not the hotel for small, boutique -hotel lovers. My only gripe was the restaurant where the standard of food was not fantastic and the beef in my noodle dish was very tough!

Having lived worked all over asia and again stayed in many hotels, I was disapointed with firstly staff, I dont know where sofitel gets thier training managers or managers for that matter as the managers were even less trained than staff.... Never will i advise anyfriends to come enjoy such a bad experience.

Sofitel and or ACCOR group please get a grip as your not environmentally

Friendly, and professionally your far from been classed as 4 or 5 star and service rubbish.

FCC hotel has made my stay in Siam Reap exceptional, Thank you to the FCC Siam Reap...

Best choice in Siem Reap

from MichaelMancini
We have been in Sofitel Angkor Hotel from the 11th to the 14th of August. This is a 5 stars hotel at same level of 5 stars hotel you can find in Orient, simply perfect! Service, cleaniness, rooms, gardens, breakfast, all perfect.

The hotel is between the temples and the city center, a very good location. The garden is big and very peaceful. The room is big, we had a superior with 2 balcons. I can mention nothing negative about this hotel...

Excellent Choice for Touring the Temples

from JessicaBN
My Mother and I had a 5 night stay in this hotel and were treated very well. We were upgraded to a Junior Suite on arrival, the hotel made all arrangements for us with kindness and speed.

The pool is very nice, if a little warm after a day wandering around temples. The food is good, but a little on the expensive side.

We did not get bitten once by Mosquitoes, so why anyone would want a net beats me!

The Sofitel Royal Angkor is the closest hotel to the temples and is slightly out of town, and that was appricated by us, along with its support for the Artisans de Angkor and the childrens hospital next door.

Excellent choice for temple touring

Beautiful hotel that's very convenient to the Angkor Wat complex. The check-in welcome was very gracious and the room quite comfortable. This is low season so outside of a tour group there were only a few independent travelers in the hotel. The pool is fantastic and there are a number of choices for dining at the hotel. It's a little far from downtown Siem Reap but tuk-tuk drivers are available just outside of the exit to the hotel - $1 for a one-way ride. They have a vintage RollsRoyce if you're so inclined to be ferried to either dinner or the airport (extra charge). Bicycles available for rental were a good way, too, to see a bit more of Siem Reap. We'd stay here again. It was most convenient to pay in US$ so bring several small bills with you during your visit.

A great 5* hotel in Siem Reap close to Angkor Wat

from A TripAdvisor Member
A superb 5 star hotel. Room was very comfortable with absoulte all ammenities and some that you may not even need. Only thing missing was a mosquito net and there were a few of such insects flying around in the room. I forgot to ask why they didn't have.

The landscape surrounding and within the hotel is gorgeous - enough to warrant pictures of it. Restaurant is a bit expensive but we though it was the safest for our stay to eat there plus you get to try different local stuff in the buffet. There is a supermarket nearby/walking distance to buy some basic stuff (sodas, snacks, etc) to avoid paying the overpriced in-room stuff.

Aside from the lack of a mosquito net everyhting else was truly superb. The attention of the staff in the hotel was magnificent. In general the people in town of Siem Reap are sincerely very kind and joyful. One of the few places that I would go back anytime. In addition, the splendor and grandiosity of Angkor Wat has no comparison.

An Oasis in Angkor

I was at first a bit scared to stay at a big hotel chain but we had a very nice surprise. The Sofitel is one of the best hotel in Siem Reap with a huge swimming pool, nice restaurants, big and very nice rooms with a balcony and a very friendly staff always smiling to greet you. The atmosphere is fantastic to relax after a day visitng the temples. We had a fantastic stay there and would definitely recommend it.

Highly recommended

from givemesunshine
Sofitel Royal is a beautiful and comfortable resort style hotel. The room we had was large and top-notch. This hotel is one of the closest ones to Ankor Wat temples. Downtown Siem Riep is about 2 miles away. The hotel has a pizza restaurant, poolside menu, roomservice and a French restaurant that had a show and a buffet some nights, so there was no need to go out to eat. The hotel has a fantastic large pool, with a swim up bar and a little island you can swim to. They also have a modern gym and a spa. The service was excellent too. This hotel is beautiful and romantic enought for honeymooners, but relaxing enough for families.
