... was like going back in time. The streets are all cobblestone, and the buildings are brightly painted different colours. We had to rush through which was too bad, but we didn't want to miss our train back to Sibiu. One cool thing we did see (from the outside) was Vlad the Impaler's birthplace. We woke up early on the 7th and hopped on the train to Brasov, central Romania, to meet up with Dimity and Rich again ...

... was freezing up there and our long pants and sweaters were not enough to keep us warm. We snapped some pictures, walked around to some lookout points, and headed back to the car for warmth. On the way, we stopped to buy a traditional Romanian food - a ball made of corn and rice and barbecued. ... pulled into a gas station for the obligatory pee and snack break, only to find thatched we could not get the car into reverse! There was obviously some sort of a safety on reverse, and the usual Volkswagen trick of pushing down on the shifter before putting it into reverse didn't work. The user manual was not very helpful, as it was written in Romanian and the pictures weren't really illustrating what needed to be done.

... Along the way we stopped for a photo opportunity at a beautiful monastery that has been there for thousands of years. It was beautiful and showed some of the authentic Romanian architecture that was quintessential Eastern Europe.. We stopped at the base of a beautiful scenic mountain with a castle at the very top. We all glimpsed at the castle thinking, wow, how lovely is that...and then our trusty guide Marco says to us - we are going to climb up ...
