Beijing on the rocks, with no ice!

... pretty well. We
went to teahouses (trying loads of teas), ate Peking duck, went the
Summer Palace, bought guitars, went to the cinema and most
importantly ate loads of very tasty food at our local cafe just up
the road. I think they may have been beginning to like us as on the
last night we got two mains, 12 kebabs and eight beers for the
equivalent of £7, China will definitely make me fat.

... out where to go, when to go, how to go, and who would go. I was organizing most of it, because I was planning to coordinate with my friend Cris. Cris, a good friend since junior high, is in Shanghai this summer on an internship program with USC. He came to visit Beijing this weekend with two other girls from his program. So of course I fell into my usual hostess-syndrome-need-to-make-sure-we-h ave-a-plan-mode. I wanted to make sure ...

... so that when our friends came to join us the next day we'd all be in the same room, then we were off to the Silk Market again. We cleaned up! After a long day of shopping we went out for Mexican and then chilled at the hostel. The next morning we went to the Forbidden City and Tienanmen Square then back to the Silk Market for more shopping. We were definitely like kids in a candy store. So glad I was able to send a suitcase back with them. Winter clothes ...

China!

... be deconstructed. Currently, the Chinese have no plans to reuse the Bird's Nest. However, one of my favorite moments so far was getting to see the Aquatic Center light up in it's trademark blue bubbles. I've always enjoyed the Olympics and was able to watch much of this summer's activities. There is so much more to say, but I am in a hurry as we are off to dinner. Tomorrow, we are out of the smog and off to beautiful Dali.

... window menu had physical therapy. I am a physical therapist and so I decided to try it on the spot. In fact, it was just a microwave over the whole body. It was comfortable after a long hike of the Great Wall, but not funny. Then I dropped by the dumpling shop again and dined in there.

After dinner, I went shopping in Wangfujing. There were a stall vending sticks of strange creatures like scorpioes, crickets, and chrysalises. In the beginning, I intended to eat them, but they ...

The great wall

... T-shirt later yes, you buy t-shirt No I don't buy t-shirt. With a Ultan a crazy Irish man, we enjoyed the trek and the magnificent wall on our own. The trek from here to Simatai is a stretch with not too many tourists and whilst it was hazy it was every bit fantastic and more so than i had been expected. The day had a multinational feel to it with Swedes, Canadians, French, English, Irish, Scottish all ...

... guarding and fighting on the wall. Absolutely remarkable. We finished of the hike by crossing a suspension bridge, where the guard who was collecting 5Y each had already gone home. We also waited a few extra minutes to make sure that we came out on the other side a few minutes after 5 PM and the staff had left, thus not having to pay a second 'entrance fee'. We have smartened up here in China. Our driver was there and he took us into town and we got a bus back to Beijing.

2006 We left home at 4 AM and had a pleasant ride by Yellow cab to the airport, our flight was on time and we arrived in Chicago on time. Here we headed to the international terminal for our flight to Beijing only to find out that our flight was leaving from the domestic terminal. So back we went to the domestic terminal and through security again. The first time in Tampa we were 6 pounds overweight and they wanted $50.00 extra, then they took away all bottles over 3 ...
