Happy Birthday USA!
Sequim, WA to Seaside, OR – July 4, 2010
As we got up we decided laundry was in order so we did a couple loads prior to departure. After packing we headed to the bikes to load up and get on the road. When we got down to the bikes, Julie found a gigantic beetle on her seat on the back of the bike. Shawn took a couple pictures and …
Oregon Coast
We flew into Portland, Oregon to meet my daughter, Elizabeth. She was attending a GSA conference. Picked up a rental car with Dollar and drove to Seaside, Oregon. We drove along Highway 26 which is a very pretty drive through the forest.
Seaside is a tourist town with plenty of souvenir shops and restaurants. We walked on the beach and …

Historical Traveler Reviews Shilo Inn Seaside Oceanfront
5 STAR
Truely a five star hotel. Wonderful staff. The rooms are new with breath taking views. The manager of the hotel has mastered the technique of how a well run resort should be, down to every detail. The beautiful dinning roon overlooks the ocean. The food is excellent and the manager of the dinning room aways made a point to make sure everyone was attended to. Can't wait to go back!!!!
Thank you!!
Needed a relaxing weeking and the people at Shilo were great! My room was on the top floor, right on the Ocean and the room was like new. I definitely was able to put my feet up and be pampered. I'll be back.
Do not expect too much
I stayed in Oct. 2004 in a "mountain-side" room, i.e, on the other side of the ocean. These rooms have windows directly on the exterior corridors and a parking structure. The room is large enough for two and clean. However, no coat hangers in the closet and they were not available when I asked for them. Also, there is no place to put luggage except on the floor as the closet/TV unit is some 5 feet high. Plumbing can be noisy. No info in the room on telephone services or any other hotel amenities except room service. The internal door connecting my room with neighbouring units was taped around with duct tape.
The staff was OK but did not exude charm. They did not seem to know much. Before making a reservation, I called the hotel directly to asked about broadband internet access and was assured that it was in every room. It turned out there was only a modem access. While I do not expect such service in every place but I would expect the staff in the hotel to know.
Noise in room
We rented three connecting rooms in August 2004 for our family group-two were ocean front. The rooms were very clean and modern. The kids enjoyed the pool, although is it not so great that you have to go to the front desk to get pool towel.
The equipment in the small kitchen was adequate.
The weather was unusally hot for Seaside and the rooms were very hot-there is no aircondioning-they rely on leaving the sliding doors and windows open to create a cooling breeze. This was ok when we were in the room but not when out and not at night. We asked front desk for a fan and they said they would deliver one-when it did not come and i called again they told me there were no fans at all in the building.
The best part if the location. The worst part is the walls and floors seem to be very thin and the noise from people walking above us was loud enough to keep us from sleeping so we altered our schedule to stay up late. If I stay there again i would request the top floor for sure!
Great lobby, cheap rooms, dirt encrusted windows
Terrific lobby with a very nice pool and view of the beach (next to the lobby). The rooms however, were small and had a cheap feel to them. The windows were not just diry , they were filthy (could just barely make out the beach). The staff were terrific and very helpful . I would say that the room was worth about half of what I paid for it..All things considered, I would not stay there again.
Nice
We had a good stay. This is a nice hotel. We stayed in one of the oceanfront rooms on the 4th of July and had a fantastic view of the fireworks! The room was nicely decorated with a great kitchenette. The staff was courteous and helpful. (However, I noticed that the rooms facing the town look very small and depressing...I would avoid those.) Although overpriced, we would definitely consider staying at the Seaside Shilo again in one of the ocean front rooms.
The Worst Night Stay
I have stayed at this hotel before in the winter and it was a nice stay. When I came in the summer, it was horrible. We wanted to be on the top floor, but remodeling was being done so we got the 4th floor. The room was beautiful don't get me wrong. I saw that the switch on the fireplace was set in the 'on' position, so i supposively turned it 'off' When i came back in my room about 2 hours later, the fireplace was on. Some one was not smart enough to put it on right. It was so hot, so I left open the sliding door but that wasn't helping because it was just equally as warm outside. Surprising to Seaside of course. So I called down to the front desk and I told them what happened, and they said okay well what do you want us to do about it. I thought that was really rude and snotty so I asked them if there was another room i could have and they said sorry but i'm not authorized to switch rooms for you. What a bunch of bull. So i hung up and tried to sleep. I then got woken up at 6 in the morning the next morning to construction being done upstairs. So i left immediatly. That was the worst night stay at the Shilo Inn.
Excellent, relaxing, and pampered.
At a recent stay a Shilo we were very happy with the room. It had a fantastic new feel and look. We were also welcomed and pamper by the staff. Thanks to all at Shilo Bill G.
Rooms are tiny
The Shilo Inn Seaside is a clean and reasonably modern hotel. It is located right at the turnaround in Seaside, at the end of the Lewis & Clark Trail. It has a really nice restaurant. We always go there for breakfast or dinner although we never stay at this hotel. The problem is the rooms. They are very small for the price. If you get a room with a "whirlpool tub" like we once did, you will find a whirlpool tub, all right -- whirlpool jets in a regular-sized bathroom tub, in a poorly lit and tiny bathroom! There are MUCH better hotels in Seaside within walking distance of this one, many of which are also beachfront.
Pacific sunsets
Shilo was a great place to watch the sun set over the ocean. We had a romantic dinner for two overlooking the pacific ocean and after wards walked down Broadway for an ice cream.
