Hurghada - Land of Russians and loud beach music
... for Russians. Fat ones who like to wear Hawaiian shirts. Excluding this (and the strange Russian buffet breakfast) it is pretty good. The next morning we were heading out for a snorkelling expedition. With us were Tony, Matthew and Javier, from our tour group, who were doing diving. Tony and Matthew can't swim but seemed extremely optimistic about diving. Dan was braced to do some life-saving should it be required. We were driven out to the tourist area and ...
The best self-catering holiday in Egypt
Had my holiday there and it was GREAT!!! This was my 3rd time in Hurghada, but my first self catering holiday as I'd always go to resorts before. This apartment is way higher standard than any hotel I’ve stayed in Hurghada before and I’ve been in 5x hotels. The apartment I stayed is brand new, nice furnishing, big plasma TV. The kitchen is ...
Saltier than salt itself
... this time! Also had rice pudding for dessert, it was very sweet but yummy.
After dinner it was off to the Peanuts bar just outside the hotel. It was karaoke night and 2 for 1 drinks. I went to bed just after 10pm like a nana but Chris stayed up until 1am with a few other people singing Bohemian Rhapsody and attempting to do songs in Arabic! It was Hassan's first time doing karaoke, Chris said it was a decent first ...
Damn, I left my ugly shorts at home.
... reading who are halfway through booking their flight there already after reading that last sentence but I give you fair warning that you will have to look at a lot of mutton dressed as lamb before you find the real lamb. In our hotel there was a sign in the lobby asking patrons to wear more than just their swimsuit while walking to the beach due to local customs... I think they might need to spell it out a bit more!
When we arrived we headed out for a late ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Sheraton Miramar Resort El Gouna
Beware march at the sheraton and el gouna
First of all, no one told us that March can be extremely windy on this part of the coast. The reef cannot be reached from the beach by the hotel. A boat ride is required. Night time was in fact cold and so we were unable to use our balcony. The food at breakfast was not 5* standard. The gym was very poorly equipped for a hotel with this rating. Housekeeping was first class however and the gardens extremely well maintained. We had food from the pool bar on the fish bbq evening which was delicious. A good variety of restaurants are available in the 'downtown' area as well as the marina.
Lovely Resort !!!!!!
We have just spent March 11th till 18th 2005, at the Sheraton Miramar Resort. This resort is superb. The rooms are very spacious, well looked after and very clean. They all have there own special features (the ceilings). The bathrooms are very nice, with large showers big enough for two people. Our room had a large balcony overlooking one of the lagoons, but unfortunatley the sun was not on it during our stay. We stayed B&B, the breakfast was buffett style with everthing from juice & yoghurt to fried breakfast. You must try the flat bread baked in an oven in the wall of the resturant. The resturants in the resort are all very good. We found the marina just a short walk or bus ride away even better. The Tandori resturant is exceptional value, and a really good Indian resturant. La Scala resturant is superb we ate there twice but if we had tried this earlier in the week, we would have used it more. Also good value for money. Then The Captains Inn Resturant this was also vey good. lovely steak resturant. We found that all the Eygptians we came in contact with were very nice they would do anything to help. Fantastic holiday only one complaint the wind !! It was 20-30 miles per hour,But even that didn't spoil our break.
Great camal riding
We arrived at the hotel after a long flight and were greeted by very friendly and welcoming staff. The room that had been booked for us was on the first floor which was no good for myself having medical problems and the staff were extremely accomindating.
The hotel was built on nine lagoons and was absolutely breathtaking. The rooms had two double beds and was plenty big enough for the four of us. I was impressed that the sun loungers on our balacony and around the pools were wooden and not plastic!
The staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them, they even were around to fill up your glass for you. Also went on a jeep safari which was excellent fun and rode on the camals too! Hubby went scuba diving for the day, said getting into the sea was like climbing into a warm bath. Water was really clear too!!
Had a great time, hotel fab, staff great and food excellent. Would of loved to go again execpt that we picked up the "egypt bug" and took weeks to get better and it has put me off going!!!!!
Sheraton Resort El Gouna Egypt
just returned from Egypt had a fantastic holiday but wanted to make people aware that this is not a five star hotel. Pool is a little grotty and the germans reserve all of the sunbeds by 730am which can be frustrating..... It has the facilities but does not always deliver also there are a huge amount of rude ignorant germans staying in the hotel who have no concept of manners. Nice resort great golf, great weather, good food outside of the hotel in the village also very cheap for transport, food and drink ...............
Weather in february
We have just returned from 14 days at the Shearton Miramar. We were delighted by the resort and the hotel. Our bedroom overlooked the sea and a wonderful location.
The restaurants at the Marina were of a excellent standard in our opinion the La Sala outstanding.
We arrived on 4th February and understood that the evenings would be cold, but found a bitingly cold wind during the day.beautiful blue skies sunshine but unless you were in a sheltered location freezing!!
We asked residents and they said this was common in February, the last four days the wind did drop and it made such a difference we were able to snokel and really enjoy ourselves.
A Very Special Place.
Just returned from 14 days at The Sheraton Miramar ,El Gouna had a super time listed below are our views on all aspects of the holiday.
Hotel Sheraton Miramar - Lives up to its 5 star rating a special place.Go Bed a Breakfast so many good resturants.Plenty of space on the beach and around the pools never feels busy.
Weather - Jan/Feb weather warm a sunny around 75 deg, however evenings VERY COLD.
El Gouna. This is not the true Egypt if you want this try Luxor,Hugarda a Cairo. If you want relaxation good food El Gouna is for you.
Resturants. Those in the hotel are good and not expensive but try the marina especially Tandorie,Blu Blu,Captains Inn and Le Douville.
Transport- Purchase a 7 day unlimited travel Bus/Boat pass cost around £1 sterling
Fantastic experience !
We have just returned from 10 days at the Sheraton Miramar. It is the best hotel in El Gouna (we have visited and tested the Movenpick and the Steigenberger thanks to the Dine Around program). A true 5 stars. It's an incredible resort. The Sheraton Miramar actually stretches between nine different small islands, weaving about lagoons, the hotel is almost a village in itself. Rooms have private terraces which overlook the lagoon or the Red Sea. There are different beaches with confortable sunloungers. There are several restaurants and bars. The food is very good and different from one day to an other. This is really a beautiful hotel with all amenities needed and El Gouna is a rather exclusive resort. It is quiet, clean and it's a perfect place to spend a very relaxing holiday. There is also a lot of things to do in or outside the hotel. We would recommend El Gouna and The Sheraton to anyone who's looking for peace, sun, water, good restaurants and spacious rooms !!!
Go to the Sheraton, you will be glad to be there !!!
Excellent!!!
Just back from 7 nights at the Sheraton, arrived Christmas Eve and it was fantastic!
We booked with Thomas Cook on Bed & Breafast basis, which I would strongly recommend as there are so many superb restaurants in El Gouna.
Food at the Sheraton was very good. We ate at all of the restaurants there - Oriental 1001 where the Seafood Tagen was mouthwatering. The Italian Poolside Restaurant was very good, so was the Miramar (main restaurant) which offered very good choices for breakfast and dinner, having a different themed buffets every evening.
Abu Tig Marina offers very good cuisine - Tandoor is a very good Indian and there are a few French and Italian eateries too! Eating out is very cheap!!
The weather was very hot during the day but much cooler in the evenings (jumper/cardigan/pashmina recommended!). The staff are very welcoming amd friendly.
Getting around was very cheap and easy, you must get a Tok Tok which is very good value (5.00 egyptian pounds - approx £0.50p) anywhere in El Gouna per person).
We would recommend The Sheraton and El Gouna - we will definately return!!!
Beautifully Unique Resort
Stayed at the Sheraton in April 2004 and loved every minute .Rooms are Large and terraces are large enough for 2 sun loungers.Buildings are arranged in blocks giving the resort a village feel .There are fantastic sea and lagoon views from all rooms .Loads of beach room for sunbathing and beautiful well maintained Gardens . Breakfast is fantastic and sustantial so you will not need lunch . I wouldnt recommend half board option but this is only because there are so many fantastic restaurants in El Gouna that you will will want to try them. In short El gouna is paradise without any of the hassles associated with other Egyptian resorts.I cannot recomment this hotel Highly enough.
Wow! This hotel is fantastic.
The hotel is great, the whole experience is great. The food is good, the town is good, the water is good, the snorkelling is good, the service is good, the trips were good, the shuttle bus was good, the weather was fantastic.
You may have guessed that we liked the holiday in El Gouna. If you love fantastic weather all year round and swimming with the fishes then this is the holiday for you.
