Limestone Galore

Krabi is a region on the southwest coast of Thailand on the Andaman Sea. To get there from Ko Tao on the east coast I first took a 5 hour ferry ride to Surat Thani and then a 2 hour mini-van ride across the skinny southern part of the country to reach Krabi Town. I spent the night in Krabi Town and in the morning I took a long tail for 30 minute ride to Railey. Although Railey is a peninsula, it is only accessible by boat. Railey is known for its amazing limestone formations right off the coa...

We hired a taxi to take us from Khao Lak to Krabi. Just under 2 hours drive. It was a beautiful trip that we would do again. the scenery was unbelievable. We were staying just outside of town of Ao Nang. Larger than Khao Lak it was a nice change. A little more to do......a little more excitement. Really liked Ao Nang. Lots of street vendors selling food. Some good bargains at the shops. And almost too many food choices. Lovely sunset views from the beach. Our hotel beach left more to be desir...

Best holiday ever!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
I went Sept 22nd 2004 had wonderful time. Staff and managment some of the best I've witnessed. Rooms were very spacious with lots of closet space. Sorry about UK report I found complete opposite! I've travelled to many places but not the Uk, Looking forward to seeing their spacious rooms one day!!!

Tranquility

We loved our stay here. The hotel is beautiful, the people are friendly and caring and there is room to move around the resort without being crowded. The pool is beautiful and the beach even better. The tour desk was very helpful booking our outings. Breakfasts were delicious and our one dinner at the hotel was terrific. I recommend this hotel to anyone.

World class resort

Although a bit hard to find, since this part of Thailand is not overly developed and resorts are not well sign posted, this resort exceeds all your expectations. It's positioned in the middle of a mangrove area without making any compromise to it. I can say a lot about the food, the staff, the facilities, but that does not add anything those are all as can be expected perfect. The biggest virtue that Krabi offers is the possibility of a freshly brewed cup of coffee at your room at 06:30 am, stroll through the mangrove using the concrete steps and enjoy the combination of a deserted beach, rocky isles, small barks, shells and sea gipsies. Truely beautifull and unseen anywhere else. Paradise for at least an hour.

Paradise!!!

I defy anyone who gives this hotel a bad review!! I've just returned from a 7 night stay in this fabulous hotel. The location is excellent, completely unspoilt. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Although I was initially disappointed by the view from the room - trees with no view of the beach, once I read the blurb in the room which explains that the hotel is built to conserve the mangrove, I quickly forgave this. The rooms are plenty big enough and are bright and modern. The only criticism I had of the room was that the mattress was a little on the firm side!

The restaurants were lovely although food and drink in the hotel was pricey by Thai standards. However, there are a few great restaurants outside of the resort which are both cheap and serve fantastic Thai and seafood. If you are looking to get away from it all I'd definitely recommend this hotel... and make sure you don't miss the waffles at breakfast!!!

Totally agree with the previous post

The previous poster really hit the nail on the head with their review. Much more laid back than Phuket, we really enjoyed our time there. Great place if you like crabs, we saw about 10 different varieties on the beach and the hotel grounds. Also great for collecting pieces of coral and small shells

Recommended hotel

Stayed 2 nights at the Sheraton. We really loved the hotel. When traveling in Thailand, hotel quality is so hit-or-miss, and it's nice to stay in a comfortable hotel when so far away from home.

Pros: New hotel (read: clean!), nicely built within natural surroundings so it does not overpower the beauty of the Thai coast (3 story buildings max), nicely furnished. Very nice breakfast buffet at Mangosteen restaurant near the lobby. Our rate included breakfast; some do not. I don't know what it costs if not included, but the variety of food offerred was great, as was the quality of the food.

Cons: bed is very hard, resort is not near much else. Ate one meal at Gecko Restaurant - flavorless and pricy.

Recommendations: Eat at The Terrace Thai Restaurant right across the street from the hotel entrance. Good quality food, much less expensive than the Sheraton. Very nice wait staff. We ate several meals here in our 2 day stay and everything we ordered was outstanding. Take an elephant ride tour at Nosey Parker's. We were so impressed with their friendliness that I want to recommend them to everyone. We arranged this ourselves (not thru the hotel's activity desk) and they picked us up from the hotel. It's a 15 minute ride to their park. The owner and staff were so friendly and the elephants were so funny. They have great personalities. We paid THB1500 which is about US$40 for 2 of us to ride the elephants for an hour. They used our camera to take pictures of us on the elephants, and it is going to make a great Christmas card this year!

Little bit of heaven (for a few days!)

The rating of this place really depends on what you're looking for.....we stayed here for 5 days rest and relaxation after 3 weeks travelling around Bangkok, Chang Mai and Phuket and couldn't have picked a better spot. Not the place to go if you're after nightlife and it is a good 30mins to Krabi itself, but if you're looking for somewhere to relax this is a great place. Nice pool, beach and room and we found the staff to be very attentive - especially Tipmas in the Martini Bar. Restaurant prices a bit expensive - but there is an excellent local Thai restaurant across the road serving fantastic food for next to nothing. For a few days this was great but for a longer stay I suspect you may get a bit bored as there is not much going on in the immediate vacinity!

Sheraton - Not as good as the usual standards

from Noodlesetc
We always book Sheraton hotels and came to Krabi as there was brand new Sheraton, we were very disappointed, the staff seemed very uninterested, the resort was massive, we would have had to get a cart to take us to the pool, our view from our room was trees, trees and more trees. The room was very clean and tidy and very nice from the inside but was like barracks from the outside.

We had booked for 2 weeks, we stayed one night and moved to a fantastic hotel further along the road. The staff didn't even ask why we were moving. Not good value for money as the rooms were quite expensive.

Excellent

from BigEyesGooCat
Stayed with 3 friends in 2 Zen connecting rooms for 5 nights.

Spacious, contemporary design room with comfortable mattress and firm pillow.

Great fun aerobic thai boxing classes.

Lovely baby elephant RARA entertaining the guests daily at 9am.

Excellent food. Reasonable price for 4-5 star hotel.

Perfect pool beach view. Although the pool is too shallow and the water was heated before noon.

Landscaping was so so.

Convenient shuttles to town center and nearby beach.

Cramped and unwelcoming

from A TripAdvisor Member
A very disappointing stay. Rooms were cramped, little storge space. Restaurants on the resort were vastly overpriced and management were unhelpful.
