Not clean and an uncomfortable night's sleep

from A TripAdvisor Member
The location is great, but the hotel isn't. First, it isn't clean. The open hallways are carpeted and when it rains, the rain soaks the carpeting and everything becomes quite filthy. Also, the bed was entirely uncomfortable. I will not stay here again.

Loved it!

We stayed 5 nights at this hotel in mid July 2003. Very nice location, great staff, adequate rooms. what bowled me over was the free parking, free internet and free local calls-all distinctly unusual for a resort, much less in Hawaii. Spotless condition, highly recommended.

Beautiful location

Stayed at the Sheraton in July 2003 with husband and two teens. The right on the beach location is the best in Poipu. The grounds are beautiful, the pool is beautiful and right on the beach. The Beach at the Sheraton is good for boogie boarding, and surfing with Poipu Beach park in walking distance which offers calm waters and marvelous snorkling with schools of colorful fish. The Sheraton resort is so pretty you are tempted to have a tropical drink and lounge with a book all day! But the whole island is beautiful and the Sheraton is in a convenient locale for sight seeing and with restaurants and shopping nearby. The atmosphere is relaxed and service excellent. The breakfast buffet was great!

Great service, bad food

from A TripAdvisor Member
How was it? We originally booked a stay from 5/22-5/28, 2003.We enjoyed it so much that we extended it to 6/1...more on that later. Theservice is top notch, smiles everywhere. Want extra towels? Housekeepingshows up almost right after you hang up the phone. First off, certainlysign up as a Starwood member; you get a free upgrade to the next betterroom based on availability...well, atleast for corporate SPG members. Webooked the cheapest garden room available and was immediately upgraded to apartial ocean view. I had read some reviews saying that bathrooms overflowand insects are frequent guests roaming your rooms. Well, we didn't see thebugs, but our toilet certainly did overflow on our 2nd morning there. Wedidn't have time to deal with it as we had to participate in a tour. Theyhad a fan drying the bathroom carpet when we came back late in theafternoon. We certainly weren't happy; but the hotel immediately upgradedus to an ocean view room....no hassles. And when we did decide to extendour stay, they gave us the same ocean view room at the cheapie garden rate. The ocean views were going for $325 on Orbitz...we got it for $254, alltaxes included. If you a klutz for the ocean, these rooms are highlyrecommended. As for the food, if you have any decent taste bugs at all, doNOT eat at the Sheraton restaurants. I've read alot about the Friday nightseafood buffet...but if you have been to any semi-decent Las Vegas or Renobuffet, this one is definitely a big disappointment....especially at $36 apop...great views though. Try the restaurants at the nearby Poipu shoppingarea (I highly recommend Roy's and semi recommend Keoki's). Overall, theSheraton definitely won us over with the rooms and service...yes we had abad with the toilet, but they "fixed" that. The food wasdisappointing, but we generally found the food in Kauai to bedisappointing. Kauai is an island that you go to enjoy the island, but ifyou need a place to kickback, I definitely do recommand theSheraton

Staff at Sheraton in kauai was superb, especially at Shell's

from A TripAdvisor Member
I really enjoyed staying at this hotel. It was great. The room was lovely with a lot of nice touches, such as complimentary water, tea, and coffee in the room. I especizally loved the staff. I really enjoyed the restaurants. I especially loved Shell's. I had crab legs there one night and went back the next night because they were so good. They were all out and I voiced my disappointment. John went over to the next restaurant and was able to order me some from them. They were great. Obviously, this is great customer service with employees eager to serve. Kudos to John and staff--very friendly and customer orientated. More hotels should be like this. I would caution, however, about the surf--very rought--although the beach setting is ideal--very tropical and Hawaiian like. A wonderful time.

Amazing location

from A TripAdvisor Member
We only stayed three nights at this hotel, but what a memorable time it was. The ocean here is just amazing to watch, and the beach is fantastic. As we were to be married during our stay at the hotel we had treated ourselves to an oceanfront deluxe room, however when we arrived it wasn't ready for occupation. We need not have worried, we were immediately upgraded to a Luxury Oceanfront (larger, and on the ground floor with a huge terrace approx. 50' from the ocean), in addition we were given enough vouchers to cover the cost of the breakfast buffet in shells restaurant for our entire stay, and may I say what a fabulous buffet it was. The service was superb, the hotel was luxurious, and we had the most amazing wedding, all organized by the hotel, no need for me to lift a finger other than to buy my dress and turn up. We are already planning to return on our 10th anniversary.

Remember to book ocean wing

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed there in mid March 2003. Hotel is in a very beautiful beach. But remeber to book in Ocean Wing, which I didn't. I stayed in Garden Wing, room was old and service was poor. No pool service in garden wing and need to walk accros the street to the other part of hotel. Sunset was great, pool/beach is nice. Breakfast buffet was nice, but be prepare to wait in line.

OK for the money

My wife and I just returned from Kauai where we spent six nights at the Sheraton on Poipu Beach. We love Kauai, but the hotel was just average. Actually we were more happy with the hotel until we went down the street to the Hyatt for dinner -- now THAT is a hotel! As for the Sheraton we had an ocean front room which was much better than the garden views accross the street. We saw those and they were very old and dated. Our room was nice except we had to keep killing cockroaches. My wife was totally freaked out by this. We told them about the problem after killing three. They sprayed and then we found two more over the next two nights. When I complained they gave me a $50 credit on the room -- that comes to $10 per cockroach. The breakfast was included with our room and it was the same every morning, which we got sick of by the end. Also, the lines were long if you came after 7:30. The beach there is terrific, but you don't need to stay at the hotel to come to the beach -- they are public. The pool was fair. Overall, we had a nice trip, but I would stay somewhere else next time.

Relaxing Hotel

from rumpointsunset
We stayed at the Sheraton Kauai on the south side of the island and at a different hotel on the north side of the island during late February. The Sheraton had much warmer weather, more sun and less rain. The room was basic but very clean with a balcony looking over the goldfish ponds and a pool area. The beach was very nice but a little crowded. It was fun to watch the kids try to surf on the little waves on the one side of the beach. It seemed that the hotel had surf and boogie boards available and there were a couple of guides teaching and encouraging the kids. I think the adults had as much fun watching them from the beach. My husband and I especially liked that the bellman checked us into the hotel, as well as bringing up the bags. We didnt stand in line at a reception desk at all to check in. The hotel room had a $20 per day fee but that includes: an impressive buffet breakfast for 2, free Mai-Tais and entertainment (live Hawaiian music and hula dancers) for an hour each evening, free internet, arts and crafts, local & 800 phone calls, self-parking fees & other amenities. It was quiet, relaxing and a good hotel for families and couples. The food was expensive, $12 for a hamburger with chips but you can ask for fries for $2 more. The bar had a great view of the ocean and entertainment the night we stayed there (2 talented people singing a variety of music).

Beautiful place

We just returned from Kaui and loved our stay at the Sheraton. Our balconey was about 75' from the surf crashing on the rocks (lighted at night); the grounds were immaculate; the staff professional and friendly; the beach was uncrowded and clean; the pools were good; the location fine. My only criticism of this hotel was the price of the food and drinks, but i suppose if you want to spend time at a luxury hotel you must expect that. Hamburgers were $12; a mixed drink was $7.50; the breakfast buffet (which was outstanding ) was $18 ea.; and an outstanding steak dinner for 2 (which included a total of 2 drinks, 1 glass of wine, 1 dessert, 1 coffee, and tip) cost $125. If you go, try walking up behind the Garden Wing and find the Plantation restaraunt; it's a separately owned business and serves great food. Overall, I would say the Sheraton Kauia is one of the best hotels we've stayed at (although I must admit we usually stay at 3-star places and this was definitely much nicer)
