Historical Traveler Reviews of Sheraton Ferncroft Danvers

Not a resort; wouldn't return

from GCHB
Hallways were dingy; carpet old and stained in every corridor. We had to go up about 7 stairs to our room; no elevator. Room service trays were left all day & sometimes 2 days. We thought it was supposed to be renovated; I have no idea where. Lobby sofas had torn arms and mismatched cushions that didn't even fit the sofa.

We went up in the elevator to check out the other floors but they had the same old carpet & others in our group said their rooms in that section were not been renovated either, and they were small rooms with only one chair.

Our room was large with an extra room with a table & chairs because we had requested a king bed. The bed was very comfortable. Room was reasonably clean, but something was forgotten every day like no washcloths, or used washcloths still in the tub, or no bag for the ice bucket. We called about a phone and lamp that weren't working. The lamp was never fixed and we fixed the phone ourselves.

They had lots of groups there besides ours; business meetings, church youth group, etc. They were using every inch of room in the hotel including the main lobby.

Fitness center looked nice, but we didn't use it. I suspect though that it was being run by an outside company. We didn't go to the Country Club/golf course which was about 1/2 mile down the road so we can't comment on that.

Maintenance outside was lacking. The main ballroom exit had hundreds of cigarette butts outside the door for 2-3 days before it was cleaned up. Maybe the cigarette holder that was by the employee door would have helped.

The patio area looking into the indoor pool was the only place you where you could sit outside but there were weeds coming up through the bricks, broken bricks, and a high wall which hid the nice view unless you stood up.

The staff was friendly, tried to be helpful, and were apologetic. Although the desk person that told us both our key cards which stopped working at the SAME time 1 day before we checked out was our fault, I could have done without. I think they were either understaffed or not supervised by management.

Sheraton management should visit here. It's not what we expected.

Just okay, not your usual Sheraton

Won this hotel thru Priceline. Took the tip of another poster and requested a higher floor in the hopes of getting a renovated room (maybe there aren't any?!). Got 7th floor out of 8. But the hotel is just old and not updated. The elevators were old, carpets dirty. Housekeeping was AWFUL. Didn't replace our toiletries after the first night, rinsed the glasses so basically left them dirty.

As for the room, it was okay. The beds were very comfortable coz they were the signature Sheraton beds. AC was an individual room unit, not centralized. The shower was terrible, the shower curtains smelled mildewy.

Front desk was friendly. Good handouts for local restaurants and directions to local attractions.

Despite the less than 4 star quality (and pleease, the name "resort" is totally misleading), the stay was totally worth the priceline bid coz it was really low.

Experience -----

ok -- here's a warning .. if you do a priceline booking and get "awarded" the Sheraton Ferncroft Resort dont get too excited because you will no doubt get shoved in these dingy lower level rooms away from the main hotel - yeah, carpets dirty down there in the hallways , front desk staff with a couldnt care attitude and even one staff member with his finger up his nose digging for something (i crap you not)

luckly we stayed there only one night to be close to salem before moving on to woburn marriott to be close to Boston (the Marriott in woburn was excellent btw)

as for the rooms : well to be fair .. they were clean, the bed was super comfy and because we were the only guests in that dungeon area of the hotel it was pretty quiet ( i guess they they send priceliners to the --- end of the hotel ) ...

as for facilities -- again not too impressive - no fridge in room and the internet was via the TV and extra .. or you could use this computer near the checkin for 10 bucks per half hour -- i'm sorry, internet should be part of the deal at a three star -- what next charge me for a tv in my room or hot water in my room?

BOTTOM LINE - if you priceline this spot , make sure yiou ask for a room in the clouds when confirming with the hotel

Not worth staying more than one night...

The Sheraton Ferncroft is not at all what I would consider a resort. Room service is so-so...if you can actually get your order delivered. No fridge or microwave...not a very pleasant atmosphere for staying five days. Not exactly family friendly. Best for corporate meetings where attendees won't be distracted by enjoyable ammenities.

Awful hotel experience

from joy1
I chose this hotel because I am a Starwood Preferred Gold member, the hotel is full service. I reserved a top floor room on the Gold floor which boasts recent renovations. When I arrived, I was told the entire floor was booked by a convention and was given a "Castle Suite" on the 5th floor. The room was horrible and cavernous, smelled of strong carpet freshener, placement of bathroom is directly across from bed, huge room with damaged and worn furniture and dirty rug. I asked for another room in the same category but after looking at three other rooms (which were worst than my original room), we decided to stay in the original room. Fortunately, we only booked a 2 day stay and we were glad to leave. If you are looking for a full-service hotel and a pleasant environment, stay away from this one. Staff is accommodating but not trained to provide good customer service. We will "never" stay in this hotel again.

Great stay at the Sheraton

I decided to spend a few days at the Sheraton Ferncroft resort for a holiday break (Dec 2004.) The room was very clean and has "Sheraton Sweet Sleeper" beds (comparable to Westin's 'Heavenly Bed'.) The bed was so comfortable!

Room service was excellent and very prompt. Food was great.

I must say everyone at the Sheraton in Danvers went out of their way to make my stay comfortable. I will definetely return.

Visit to Salem

from Colleen13
The hotel was the best thing about our trip to Salem: It was so busy in Salem you could barely walk down the streets. Also, parking and dining in Salem were close to impossible. So, we decided to return to the hotel for the remainder of our Halloween evening. We ate at the hotel restaurant which had an extremely limited menu, but what they did have was delicious. Then stopped at the hotel bar for a drink, where we met really pleasant bartenders. Our room was clean and extremely comfortable. The next morning, we ordered breakfast from room service. The food was good, the the service was fast and the people were very courteous.

Our only complaint was the location of the hotel. It was hard to get to and if you miss the exit ... Good luck.

In short:

Salem: Probably nice to visit the rest of the year - NEVER AGAIN for Halloween!! Sheraton Ferncroft: Great hotel to stay in. We will be back.

Trip to Salem

We just got back on our trip to Salem Mass. We chose the Sheraton Ferncroft Resort due to the fact it was a resort and you would think a resort would be a nice place to stay-To start off with, the rooms smelled like a carpet fresh factory-If housekeeping didnt dumped at least two cans of the stuff on the rugs I wouldnt be surprised. It smelled awfull- so if you have allergies-Watch Out!!! The second problem is we had no hot water- and when I called the operator she didnt believe us-finally she said that someone would be up soon- Well no one came- so we checked out-Its a shame since the outside of the hotel looks so pretty and sits on a hilltop- Just use caution when staying here!

Excellent stay

This was the first time staying at the Sheraton Ferncroft Resort. This was actually the first time i had been to Boston. I had the most enjoyable experience during my stay. From the moment I had checked in at the front desk, i knew my stay at the property was going to be "special". I had a late dinner at Mulligans. The food and atmosphere was excellent. The steak I ordered was "out of this world". I plan on staying at the Ferncroft everytime I make a trip to Boston.~

It was uncomfortable

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed there during a convention - and the staff and restaurant could not handle the crowd. The chef had a meltdown. You had to have a adult to go to the indoor pool if you were under 18. The other pool was down the road and you had to take the shuttle and pay $25! The rooms HVAC system is awful - there were a few hundred that came back with sinus and bronchial infections. They did not hire the extra staff that was needed to handle a large group. And the worst thing is the hotel is close to the highway but due to the location it takes 20 minutes to get to the highway and 1/2 hour to get anywhere! There is only one restaurant. Not a good experience.
