The Esplanade, Kings Beach Caloundra, Queensland, Australia, 4551, 61-7-5491-5355
Rainbow Beach promised cliffs of many colours (kind of like Joseph’s coat but a bit coarser - and vertical) and we wanted to see them before we left the area. We got up bright and early and were walking on the beach by 8am! Many of you may be surprised that whilst living in the van we have generally been getting up at 6.30am and are usually on the road by 8.30 at the latest (but not always!). It is so hot by noon that we soon realised that getting ...
Dicky Beach, Queensland, Australia jenandtony... bag the hat blew into the south pacific!! Some would say it served her right for laughing at other people but she also found losing her own hat extremely funny!!! We then sailed a little further where we were 'mugged by whales!!!'.

Three whales surrounded the boat and came within 6 ft of the sides. Mugging is the term used for when whales come really close to the ship and interact with the passengers. They apparently really like the sound of ...
Caloundra, Queensland, Australia benandem24... died in 2006 at the Australia Zoo at the ripe old age of 176. Lana and i were with just four or five other people in the encounter, so we both got to feed Igloo and Goliath some salad and hang out with them for a half hour. although they look slow and cumbersome they were actually incredibly strong and have been known to ram through fences and doors. if they were moving, you either got out of the way or got run over! it was a special ...
Beerwah, Queensland, Australia katelin...
Moreton Island, Queensland, Australia pacificocean... Got a few groceries, swam, caught up on emails. This is the first night that we slept without the airconditioning on. Next am. we hiked through the rainforest to the Mapleton falls, really neat plants and scenery. Continued back through Monteville, and then took all kinds of backcountry roads , through the Glass House mountains, and past the Steve Irwin Australian Zoo, through the Hinterland, and ended up in a small town Lowood, to visit with ...
Caloundra, Queensland, Australia shannonm... to the glass kilns of Yorkshire. They are actually exposed volcanic plugs from long ago extinct volcanoes that have slowly eroded over time. On the main highway to Brisbane we are sent into a bit of a panic, the traffic is dreadfully heavy and slowing to a standstill and we have to be at the docks for 4pm. Eventually the traffic starts to move but by now the sky is darkening and we feel sure there is a storm brewing. The magical mystery ...

Sippy downs, Australia mirka_blogSo in the end I did not last much longer than the others. It is now five days since I left Wallaby Creek. I had been there one day short of two months, though it seems like much longer. The four of us who remained, Jenn, Steph, Brendan, and myself, decided three days after the departure of Abe and Erin that we could not continue, despite our previous ambitions. It had continued to rain, and each morning, the landscape was a muddy gray obstacle to our ...
Caloundra, Australia mattador... actually Rex) the sleepy Korean guy. He reaches in his jacket and pulls out two beers for the walk home. A fitting end to my volunteering days at CVA. Not having an alarm and not trusting myself to wake up in time, I took my mattress and sleeping bag out to the covered porch, trusting the sun and the birds to wake me in time for my bus the next morning. What I Learned Today: Giving myself a curfew is a colossal waste of time.
