... Vietnam and until a week or two ago were pretty much treated as outcasts, until they were hit by fierce fires, triggered by lightning, which threatened the entire area.
These Vietnamese with incredible bravery waged in with spades, still in their flip flops, to fight the fires and by doing so won the respect of the locals.

We drove through some of these areas, still blackened, with the air pungent with the smell of burning.

I had seen and heard about this waterfall. A perfect waterfall creeping down a wall of moss, little fingers creeping down to the water below.

To get there we had to technically trespass and walk along train tracks for a mile or two. i was semi fulfilling of childhood fantasy of walking along the tracks, hopping on a train and taking me somewhere, watching the world go by. Instead, we let the 100 or so ...

... Valley Creek. There was lots of climbing today. I think the cumulative elevation gain today was about 5000-5500. Oh, and bushwhacking through poison ivy and poison oak. It felt like a jungle today. The tree canopy was thick, with tall Douglas Firs and Cedar Trees and Oak Trees too. Eventually the trail made a bend to where it grants you epic front row views of Mt. ... be able to get wet in that river. Felt so relieved on this hot day. Cuban B and I have been hiking together since the Fish Hatchery, two days ago. He is fast. I don't try to keep up with him. When he first started the trail, he weighed 170lbs. Last he checked in Lake Tahoe, he was at 129 lbs. Wow!! 41 lbs. I thought my weight loss was drastic. And he is only 5'4. I'm curious what I weigh ...
