... s Garden. While lovely, it was crowded and not free. Riley and Jordan joined us for s boat tour of the famous canals of Suzhou. We negotiated a 'deal' for five of us to go for the price of one: ¥120. We soon learned why. We were herded into a small, crowded room full of others, then herded onto a tour bus. What was sold to us as a 50 minute circular tour of the canals turned out to be a long bus ride followed by a cursory ride on a boat followed by a stop at ...

We met to check out early this morning before grabbing the metro to the train station. Here we bought our tickets back to Nanjing for later although we accidentally bought to Nanjing and not Nanjing South railway station which means our journey will be a little longer crossing town to campus. Next we located the adjacent bus station and bought our tickets to Tongli. As with yesterday we had to wait an hour until ...

A world away from the one we live in today, filled with mystic and charm, is how I would describe Suzhou. Less than a hundred miles to the south west of Shanghai, is the beautiful town of Suzhou that Marco Polo endearingly described as the 'Venice of the East'. The town is renowned for, the grand-canal that is over a thousand years old, the rich culture of music, the scattered gardens and the balmy weather drawing people from ...

Met after breakfast with Billy and driver to take us to Zhouzhuang Water Town. The driving certainly has us holding our breath at times as we seem to slip into non-existent spaces between vehicles (or other cars, bikes, trucks, etc seem to miraculously avoid collecting us as they merge into our line of traffic from almost any direction). There are road laws, but they don't seem to apply to bikes or the numerous electric motor scooters that choose to cross ...
