Moving my way North, weather's getting nicer, ahhh

... excited to have the chance to try it for the first time since I was in Portugal... but it wasn't to be. The waves were huge (2 metres or so) and the undertow was incredible. Amy and I went into the Pacific up to our ankles, and had to fight not to get pulled in! It reminded me to NEVER mess with the water, because it will win that battle. Even Sam, an experienced surfer, couldn't manage these waves to his liking. It turned into a morning of sitting on the ...

Wildlife and a wild life

... course crocodiles! I saw a show in the crocoseum, where they fed this rather large salt water crocodile. It was really impressive and definately made me not want to swim in rivers and creeks, or anywhere! I also saw the family signing autographs, Bindi and her mum Terri stayed for ages, but Robert got bored and went off on his diddy quad bike! It must be a strange life for them, especially Bindi, she is so famous over here (she's done a load of tv shows and things) and in ...

Life by the Beach

... never fails to amaze me that even in winter you can lie by the pool and top up your tan (though you'd be mad to jump in, the water's freezing!) I'm waiting for the weather to calm down a bit so I can snorkel straight off the beach in Caloundra (the next town to the south) and see some fish again! My birthday is just around the corner and I think I might head up to Lady Musgrave Island for some snorkeling and chill out on a yacht for a day, not a bad way to ...

The Wonderful World of Dog-Sitting

... and certainly had enough for us. Can you believe these people? POOR US! So, while the tire trouble was not a happy addition to our agenda, we were NOT-so-secretly ecstatic that we got to spend another evening with Sharon and Graeme, who, I must say, are almost as charming as Cecilia, Dave and I ;) We had a blast at the zoo, paying homage to the late Steve Irwin. We saw all manner of God's creatures, great and small, and even had the opportunity to pat a koala ...

Wet Sundays and Sleeping Rough

... in a comedy show, we quickly ended up in knee deep water, where we stood, nearly wetting ourselves with laughter. The way back was equally amusing as we watched a green tree frog swim past us doing breast-stroke in the same puddle. Apparently the storm destroyed parts of the coast as it ripped through. It knocked out the power to the campsite so we had no lights or no running water until the caretaker reappeared hours later.....he found us girls set up on the floor of the ...

Day 11 - Monday

... or so to shop, have a coffee, taste some wine , eat some strawberries and ice cream,or sample a new pub. Even saw some lawn bowling. What a wonderful day we spent with them and such a unique drive to take visiitng the towns of Montville, Malaney etc. Well that is a capsule of what we did the past few days. Chat later, N & C p.s You might notice several of the great photos of the area. Carla was good enough to post some from her camera. Tomorrow we may post some from ours.

... and the first the others knew of it was when she ran into the beach. The search for the missing deckhand was called off yesterday, presumed lost at sea. A sad side of this life on the Sunshine Coast. As we walked back along the estuary path we spotted an osprey carrying a fish. We circled round the area and then landed on an artificial platform where we could just see a chick in the jumble of twigs that formed the nest. Fascinating. We were then treated to a gorgeous ...

Kayaking in Noosa Everglades

... I think they were a bit jealous of our flashy kayaks, and definitely jealous when we got the cold beers out and Iain started cooking our rissoto dinner. We certainly camped in style. The next morning we were up quite early and I wasn't exactly looking forward to another 21km back to base. But we packed up camp, loaded the kayaks and set on our way. I had two blisters on my left hand although they didn't hurt too much. We actually ...

The Sunshine Coast

... have taken care of. In fact the clouds make it far less hot and easier to hunt for waves. It's truly amazing how intense the sun is here, I hate to think about what global warming will probably do to this wonderful land. Anyways, I wouldn't even be mentioning this if it wasn't for the Sunshine Coast moniker which begs for targeting. Because really we are quite happy with our time here so far. This is the Australia we have been longing to see and experience. The day started ...

Brisbane to Mooloolaba

... and we saw many animals from all over OZ, but the best parts for me was feeding the kangaroos, touching the koalas and most definitely the Crocoseum show. The show consisted of flying birds, slithering snakes and the much anticipated crocodile feeding by Steve Irwin's wife (Terry) and best mate Wes. As it was the school holidays Steve and Terry's daughter Bindi was doing some singing and dancing for the kids and they seemed to love it. I thought it was ...
