... leaving. It was about a 30 min ride on a very full double, bendy bus.
Buying the tickets at the terminal was easy and then we waited about half an hour for the ferry. It left right on time at 11 am. They leave for Swartz Bay, Victoria every hour. Very relaxing and the wifi was possibly faster than all the hotels we gave been in so far. About three quarters of the way across we saw a pod of 7 orcas. There have been several times whilst travelling where we have wished we had more time somewhere, or where we are already planning on coming back. Every now and then this is extended further and we get somewhere we think we’d like to live. Vancouver Island falls into this latter category. We really enjoyed Tofino, and we also enjoyed our full day here in Victoria too, probably helped a lot by it being a gorgeous sunny day by the sea.

Today Jim took us for a tour of the Victoria area. Beautiful seaside houses and glorious scenery. A beautiful city of manageable size. Poor Elaine had to work, but was able to be home by about 4.30, so we could enjoy an afternoon on the deck in the sun! Their vegetable garden has recently been raided by deer which breached the hedge fence. I am yet to see the culprits, which are apparently regular visitors to the empty blocks next door. ... vegetables. We had a chat with some locals who had the same camera as Stephen and they suggested watching the sunset from the spit due to the unusually clam conditions. Instead we watched it from Holland Point, but it didn't amount to much. We walked back to the hotel feeling very tired and on looking out the window discovered that we could have saved ourselves the long walk and seen it from there. It looked quite beautiful.
