Our last full day began with another early start. We joined the commuter traffic heading south on 101 and drove over the Golden Gate Bridge for the last time. We headed down CA1 and picked up the coast (which meant we couldn't pay homage in Cupertino)! Coffee and bagel in Santa Cruz and lunch overlooking Monterey Bay on the beach at Marina - nice …
... few purchases made by the three men of the family before we picked up our 1st takeaway meal of the holiday. Honestly I'm over hotel food as strange as that sounds so takeout was a light welcome choice. We all took a night time walk along the boardwalk and through the town before heading back to our room for the night.
Tonight we turned on the TV and saw that the US government has been shut down...breaking news here.
Well I know what your all thinking surely this family have had enough of driving but no !! We are now on our homeward stretch and our last few days we will be driving this beautiful highway up to San Francisco for our flight home. We didn't have any reservation for today so we kept driving until we have found ...
... Castle which is a must-see.
The good news was that at higher altitude no fog, but the castle really is quite a let down other than the gardens which were beautiful. The castle is a glorified Butlins, a concrete shell clad in expensive items bought in from Europe. The general vandalism of old artifacts is quite stunning, 14th century baptistery doors cut down to size to fit ...

We stayed in the corner room with two balconies offering ocean views. the rooms were sumptuously appointed - the bed was so comfortable. Hot-tub on the balcony was excellent. great staff, facilities and a very good restaurant.
Would definitely stay there again if in the area. A great place for a treat or special occasion.

Historical Traveler Reviews SeaVenture Hotel Pismo Beach
Love the SeaVenture!
Although the hotel was spendy, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the SeaVenture. The room looked exactly as it did on their website, continental breakfast of our choice was brought to our door every morning at the time we requested, the fireplace was nice and our hot tub was cleaned daily. Room 251 is primo as the bed is positioned to face the ocean and we enjoyed watching the whales and dolphins play from the comfort of our bed! We come twice a year and always stay nextdoor at the Sandcastle Inn, but this far surpassed that. We even had a problem with the sound on our TV upon check-in and when we called to have it fixed or be moved to another room, the maintenance man showed up with a brand new TV in about 10 minutes. That showed Great Customer Service!
This is such a nice hotel. My husband was the best man in a wedding at the SeaVenture in February. We thought the rooms and staff were very nice so, we decided to go back in April for our short honeymoon. We stayed in room 236. If I could do it over again, I would stay in the rooms to the right of the elevator exit on the second floor because as mentioned the restaurant is on the third floor and was kind of noisy. That is my only complaint. We didn't have a view, but that was important to us. We did however have a clean room, great hot tub, and comfy bed. The breakfast in the little baskets are awesome. Visit the SeaVenture and you won't be dissapointed. Look for the younger chef at the Tapas Bar on the third floor, he makes the best steamed clams!
Nice hotel, Great location!
We just returned from a 2 night stay at the Seaventure. Our city view room ($129 thru Orbitz) was a bit crowded with the dining table, a large chair near the door, and a king size bed but it did have two closets so storage was not a problem. The fireplace was in the corner next to the bed - not ideal but still nice for atmosphere. The hot tub on the deck was great and didn't have any of the problems others have mentioned. We had angled views of the ocean from the deck. The bed was very comfortable; the staff was wonderful; and the complimentary breakfast served in our room was a nice plus. The location can't be beat.
I was very disappointed in our overpriced stay at the SeaVenture! I chose SeaVenture because of the high raking on TripAdvisor and on a recommendation from a coworker. We paid $250.00 for Friday night and $300.00 for Saturday as they only had full view Jacuzzi suites available. I will say the view was spectacular from our patio. Other than that, it was pretty bad! Our sliding door and screen didn't latch, the Jacuzzi and VCR were difficult to use because all the wording was worn off the buttons, we couldn't get a couples massage until the last day because the couldn't find a masseuse (although they advertise this service in all the literature), our dinner in the restaurant was horrible (service AND food!), the Front Desk staff was apathetic and was making fun of other guests as we were standing there, the room was run down with large stains on the comforter, and our Jacuzzi was possessed. It turned itself on all night, and without any wording on the buttons, we never figured it out! The pictures on the web are misleading, as the rooms are not decorated as they are in the picture. The restaurant was above us as it takes up a good portion of the third floor. There was thumping and bumping from about 10:00 a.m. until they finished cleaning the restaurant at about 11:30 p.m. I have no idea how so much noise came from a restaurant. No napping during the day!On the plus side: The continental breakfast is complimentary and was served warm, which was very nice. When we finally got massages, they were expensive, but awesome! The location is wonderful--steps from the beach. And Pismo Beach has a gorgeous beach.
The hotel pictures on the website mis-represent the actual rooms. The room was much smaller and run down. Several items within the room were falling apart. We guarenteed our room with a credit card 7 weeks in advance. We were told we were getting a rolling hills view with 2 double beds. Instead, we were given the handicap room with 1 double bed, and run down shacks for our view. The hotel's special offer of "pre-paying $40 for dinner up front to save $10 off your meal was very mis-leading. What we WEREN'T told was that the restaurant was only offering a restricted menu for that evening and that we would be forced to pay for dessert even though we didn't want it. The tip was also automatically charged at 15% to your bill. The meal ended up costing us $148 for 2 dinners only. We didn't even order drinks! The meal was average but not worth anywhere near this cost. The Jacuzzi kept turning on automatically at night which was irritating and very noisy. The walls in this hotel don't lend to a quiet evening either. You hear other people talking in the rooms and it sounded like someone was moving furniture above us the entire time we stayed there. There is only 1 very small elevator for all 50 rooms. To top off our bad experience, my Valentine's gift was in a bag in my room. The maid took the bag from my room when she cleaned it. When I called the front desk the hotel didn't even offer to pay for my loss. AND, the manager never contacted us directly to correct any of the above issues. There were a few good perks. The hotel left a card, 1 truffle, a small Teddy Bear, and 1 long-stem rose in our room after the maid cleaned Valentine's morning. The restaurant also gave each woman a long-stem rose when you entered for dinner. There are free coffee and the local newspapers in the lobby. The beach is just outside the lobby door. AND, the gas fireplace in the room was a very nice touch.
This hotel is amazing! They cater to your every need. The rooms are gorgeous, the staff is extremely friendly. I highly recommend the Seaventure Resort!
A Romantic Get Away!!
We had a wonderful stay at the Sea Venture. The room was so cozy and decorated just like a garden! The breakfast basket was delivered just on time each morning and included lots of hot coffee and other goodies that we ordered. Having the hot tub, fireplace and beautiful balcony overlooking the ocean was a treat!! The location of the hotel right on the sand was perfect.
My husband and I stayed here for 1 night on a trip down the Cali coast.
Our private hot tub on the balcony was great! The hotel sits right on the beach which is very convenient. Also, the restaurant is very nice with great food. If you are looking for a nice romantic place on the beach this is it!
Visited this hotel for 2-nights on the way up the coast to SF. Did not know what to expect, but were impressed. Architecturally 'interesting' looking from the outside, but more conventional inside - good sized, pleasantly decorated rooms, which are clean and modern with v. comfortable beds, bar area with sink, and a medium-sized balcony for checking out the views (with hot tub!). What most reviews do not seem to mention is the excellent restaurant on the top floor - either sit at the tapas bar, or book a table in the adjoining restaurant. Both options have fabulous views over the beach to the sunset, with good seafood menus and a good wine-list, including local central-coast wines. Pismo beach is an unpretentious place and this is reflected in the hotel - very well run, with friendly staff, and relaxed atmosphere. Loved the breakfast basket which was delivered to the room in the morning - nice touch. My only gripe is that half the rooms with 'sea view' actually face sideways, and look onto a quiet residential street - the sea view is there, but off to one side. Which is not quite as good as the rooms on the front looking directly over the beach, but is more sheltered if the wind is blowing - your choice!
