Today we dove the Great Barrier Reef. It was an incredible experience. The Great Barrier Reef is the world's largest coral reef system, composed of over 2,900 individual reefs and 900 islands that stretch over 1,600 miles. It is the single largest structure made by living organisms. It can even be seen from outer space.

ULURU; August 12.

We got up early this morning to coach to Uluru to view the sunrise, then to Kata Tjuta for a walk to the Walpa Gorge. I hope not many pictures are duplicated.

Cruisin' the Great Barrier Reef

A travel blog entry by valliegrl

Absolutely nothing can prepare you for how amazing the Great Barrier Reef is. Nothing. We all know it's some of the most beautiful landscape and sea life in the world, but you will still not be prepared for how magnificent it is to experience it yourself. Hence, why we made it a priority of the trip to experience 'The Reef.'

We had …

Where two natural wonders meet...

A travel blog entry by valliegrl

The only place in the world where this happens, is Cape Tribulation. Two natural wonders, the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest, meet at this point. How could we come all this way and NOT drive up to check it out?

We were a bit scrunched for time, so we got up at 5:30 in order to be on the road by 6:00am. We were determined to …

    Didn't want to leave!

    from Mosswood

My partner and I stayed at the Sea Temple at the end of October for 6 nights. In hindsight, we would have stayed there longer had we known how much we were going to love the place!

We stayed in a swim-out studio, which was fantastic. We were slightly worried about the fact that we wouldn't have cooking facilities but with all the great restaurants in Port Douglas (including the resort restaurant) it wasn't an issue at all. After lazing by the magnificent pool all day who wants to cook! By the way I thoroughly recommend the scallops at the resort restaurant!!

Although the resort is a little way out of town, it wasn't really a problem to get in and out of town due to the regular shuttle buses ($3 each way)

We had planned to do more activities in and around Port Douglas however the resort pool was so lovely that we spent a great deal of our holiday laying by it with a book in one hand and cocktail in the other....perfect!

    Perfect Hotel

    from IndianaMoon

We stayed at the Sea Temple Port Douglas for 5 days/4 nights in early November. I can not fault this property. I work in hospitality and am fussy about service and food. It was exactly as I would have hoped. The staff were great, friendly and helpful but never instrusive. Everyone from reception to restaurant staff. They all went out of their way and everyone greets you with a smile and a "hello". The property is to die for. The hotel is gorgeous and the pool is stunning. We spent so much time laying around and in the pool because there was no where else better to be. There tonnes of towels, and a great pool bar. The meals at the pool bar were a little expensive, but I guess fairly typical. The cocktails were great. We stayed in a swimout apartment and I would absolutely reccommend upgrading to one of these. You can not beat stepping into the pool off your own porch and having your own deck. I have no negatives. We loved it. We didn't eat at the hotel, but would thoroughly reccommend both Salsa and Two Fish - the food and service there were also outstanding. We had a chocolate souffle to die for at Salsa.

We also went horse riding at Wonga Beach. This business has recently changed hands and the gentleman now running it is wonderful. He's great with the horses, and with the guests. I am a horse person and was completely impressed with his treatment of and respect for the horses. It was a great ride - 3 nice big long canters along the beach in a small group. Lovely.

    Do we have to leave?!

    from cooked71

We originally booked to stay here 5 nights, and the remainder of our 2 week holiday elsewhere. We couldnt leave and ended up staying 10 nights here.

We got a direct swimout 2 bedroom room on the main part of the lagoon pool. It was incredible. Room was extremely well appointed and have fantastic kitchens/laundries.

Swimout room was a highlight for us (we have a 5 year old boy/fish), but I'm sure some people might not like people swiming past their balconies. We had no problem with privacy as the actual rooms are far enough back from the pool.

Some swimout rooms may not be as good as ours was - especially around the narrow lagoon & behind the spa / bar area. Try and get a room plan from the hotel to request a particular room that suits you best.

The lobby is spectacular and the restaurant was OK if not a bit limited (especially the breakfast buffet in which it was hard to get your money's worth) .

It's also worth noting the resort is a little way out of Port Douglas town (5 minute drive - definately not walkable) - but well connected with buses. Thats if you can get yourself to leave your swimout appartment!

    Fantastic

    from Simmi

We spent a fantastic 6 nights at the Sea Temple, Port Douglas. The resort has a great feel to it, the pool is amazing and the rooms were new and beautifully furnished.

We recommend going with the swimout room, it is perfect when you have little ones. We were able to swim just outside our room while the baby was sleeping safely inside!

We started with the penthouse room which has a BBQ and spa on the roof. While this would be great to entertain and have a party, it had no direct access to the pool. We switched to the swimout after 2 nights and never looked back.

The service wasn't top notch, we had problems with the spa that we received no response to after 3 phone calls. Also the evacute alarm went off one night at 2pm. The staff had no idea what needed to happen.

On our way home we discovered Palm Cove which is much nicer and has a better vibe than Port Douglas. Our suggestion is to try Sea Temple, Palm Cove. But if you are set on Port Douglas, we would definitely recommend the Sea Temple.

    Stunning!!

    from kingsroadgal

This is a gorgeous hotel, with an open air lobby and a knockout pool. We booked a room with its own private pool, but honestly, probably wouldn't do that next time. The resort pool is so magnifient, there really is little need for anything else. I personally, though, would recommend a room in the back of the hotel, unless you really enjoy seeing a lot of people swimming by your room.

The room decor is beautiful, and includes a full kitchen with large washer and dryer. Very handy in the tropics. Our room, however, did not get restocked with shampoo on the second night. In fact, we only had one bottle of shampoo for our two bathrooms. This was uncharacteristic of the very high standards we found at Sea Temple.

Room service was great. Food was always hot and good. I was really impressed. Drinks by the pool are also really fabulous. Try the Bananarama. Yum...

I would definitely like to go back here and spend more time. Port Douglas is a really nice town, but it is tempting not to leave Sea Temple. Give yourself some time to explore the area, but also thoroughly enjoy the hotel.

    Beautiful Resort

    from Nessy25

The Sea Temple Resort was just what I expected a brand new beautiful resort. The staff were friendly, however after staying at the Four Seasons it is hard to live up to the way the staff treat their guests there. That's in another league itself.

The pool was beautiful, it's not heated so it's very refreshing. The only gripe I have with the pool is that the sunlounge area is quite small, you have to come early to get your sunlounge as by 10-11am they were all gone. They could've designed this area a bit better and made it bigger.

The food at the Pool bar was very nice and reasonably priced. We stayed in a studio and their idea of a king bed is 2 singles pushed together. I would've prefered a Queen bed, although it was still comfortable. The bathroom and spa bath was very nice.

We went to the Dayspa which was lovely, would highly recommend going in there for a massage.

We didn't eat at the resort as there are so many beautiful restaurants in the main street of Macrossan. We ate at Salsa which lived up to its expectations.

Overall we had a beautiful 4 day getaway and would definitely come back here again.

    THE BEST Five Stars here

    from louiebmayer

This is my second trip to Port Douglas, now I know where the writers of the bible got the description for paradise.

The Sea Temple Port Douglas was clean, new and stunning. The service was nice and professional. The pool was the best I have ever been to and I have traveled the world.

I stayed at the Mirage the first time which I thought was wonderful at the time and had a marvelous time , but the Sea temple surpasses it all.

    Treat yourself!

    Fabulous

    from USAMember

Just came back while staying here at the end of August.

While in Sydney we heard about the Sea Temple on Getaways. Already booked at Sheraton Mirage, we figured we would try and change our reservation. We are so glad we did! The resort is beautiful. The room was comfortable and clean. The jacuzzi was great. The pools are beautiful. staff is very nice. And excellent cocktails at the bar!

I would totally recommend this place, hands down!

    Stunning and luxurious resort

    from jacpea

We stayed at the Sea Temple for nine nights in August.

I couldn't recommend it more highly. I am very fussy about accommodation but I was certain I was in the best place in Port Douglas. It was as good as anywhere I have ever stayed.

Spotlessly clean, very modern, brand new in fact having only opened in May this year. We found it very quiet in spite of our room being quite near the restaurant. Beach and bath towels are laid on, and the apartment is serviced daily.

Our nine year old twins had a ball playing in the enormous and very attractive pool, swimming over to the apartments of new friends they had made, or up to the spa. The swim out apartments were fabulous with the kids being able to drop in for drinks, snacks etc. We could supervise them from the comfort of our chaise. Some apartments though get more sun than others and the first apartment we were allocated to didn't get any. However when we asked for a shift the resort was great - they didn't bat an eyelid.

The restaurant is lovely - next time I would eat there more often as the eating in the rest of Port Douglas is hit and miss and not much cheaper that the resort restaurant. However the apartments are fairly well equipped for cooking in, with some even having their own barbecues.

Best coffee in the main street is at the Whileaway bookshop.

The Cane Toad racing at one of the pubs in the main street (7.30pm each night) is not to be missed if you have kids.

I found the Low Isles trip with Sailaway to be terrific. Much better with kids than the Outer Reef. Sailaway was great - very personal and friendly service. It is a small boat - only 27 passengers on board.

    Stunning!

    from Gajz

Loved it! We stayed at Sea Temple Palm Cove before coming to Port Douglas and I prefered this resort. The staff were wonderful and the pool is stunning. We have 2 small kiddies and loved the swim out apartment. Apartments are very well kitted out & modern. Very easy to stay in the resort and not do anything else!

Great pool side bar with sandwiches. The restaurant has a great menu and lovely ambience.

Very easy to get the bus into town - they come all the time. Would recommend going to Habitat to have breakfast with the birds. Its also very easy to get the bus there from the resort.

We have never been to the same place twice but would definitely consider coming back here.

The only downside is when there is a conference going on its hard to miss.
