First Day On The Road - Thank God For Rain Suits

... scream in harmony as the bike blew into the other lane and on coming traffic. Todd says he has never driven in winds that bad. "scared the bejesus out of him". ( and a great laugh over a beer at supper). The ride to the boarder was breezy but warm.

Once across the boarder the weather and scenery was fantastic. We stopped at the beginning of the Wild Horse Scenic By-way and between there and Bonner's Ferry (this was the staging point for the ...

Farragut state park

We left the great state of Washington and headed east. Haley was keen to see Cor de Lane and an amusement park near this quaint Idaho town. We stayed a night at Farragut State Park just North of Cour de Lane. It was pretty late ...

Mt St Helens - Day 2

... bumpy - I left my seat more than once. This is where I parted company with Mike and Brigitte and struck east on my own. And where I found the heat... The interior of Washington, much like BC, is very desert like, including the temperatures. My bike thermometer (in Fahrenheit) quickly registered 100F and stayed that way for over 6 hours! It was as my brain was baking while driving ...

It's my birthday and we can't find a parade!

... had fireworks and would you believe, hundreds and hundreds of people turned out for my birthday party! It was so nice of them all to come! The 4th July fireworks was held on the beach and it was really quite nice. Not a New Years' eve on the harbour of course but given that it was a small town, one couldn't complain at all. They went on and on and the spirit was fabulous. At least Charlie got fireworks for her birthday!

day 8 (93 miles)

... first 30 miles were steadily uphill and we had a 10 mile descent down into a river valley afterwards. although this descent wasn't the zippiest, it was still a lot of fun because it had a series of wide, sweeping turns that we were taking at 30-35 miles per hour. there were even a couple of instances where we had to slow down to reach the recommended speeds on the signs for autos! at the base of the hill, we met up with the early risers and started in on the ...

In Sandpoint with the Darts

On Wednesday, May 7, Don and Loretta stopped in Sandpoint, Idaho to have dinner with Ken and Christy Dart, parents of Miranda Bodus, one of our members. Ken and Christy are a very congenial couple and generous, too! They paid for the Stevensons' dinner and breakfast, and put them up in the Quality Inn as well! I've attached some photos that Christy emailed after their meeting. See ...

Goodbye, Washington!

... It's likely that he will walk past Sandpoint, but the parents of one of the Pacin' Parson Group members, Miranda Bodus, have offered to buy them dinner and a room for the night in Sandpoint. Miranda's parents work on the estate of Dr. Forrest Bird, the inventor of the medical respirator. Read about Dr. Bird at wikipedia.com.

Crossing the Border

We (Simon, Heather and myself) headed off just after lunch on Friday to head across the border as we were going to spend Saturday at the Silverwood Amusement Park near Sandpoint, Idaho. The trip started slow as myself and Simon had stayed up the night before having a few drinks with Sam who had just hit town and weren't in our peak state of mind. Once on the road we found another hindrance being that it was going to be a long weekend that weekend in Canada so ...

The Cabinet Mountains

The town of Libby (pop. 2,626), Montana, nestles in a wooded fold of the Kootenay valley as it sweeps northwest beneath an elegant line of conical peaks. It's a patriotic God-fearing community where an array of churches minister to the faithful and the Stars And Stripes flutter from the wooden porch of many a well kept home. I rolled, mid-Sabbath, along the sleepy main street of 'historic downtown' to find scarcely a sinner in sight. From ornamented flagstaff fluttered the ...
