Sanur Bali, Indonesia:

Today we drove to Denpasar, first we went to the market. I made a mistake purchase of buying a dance costume for 1.5 million rupiah, although it was beautiful. After this we went to the bird market where they sell pets of all kinds - mostly birds. I was very sad, they had turtles to sell as pets (or food), and wild squirrels and baby monkeys. It was really sad to see the baby ...

... school that someone would carry his equipment into the sea for him so as not to put any strain on it. Tulamben is the site of the wreck of the US Navy cargo ship "Liberty" that was torpedoed near Lombok by a Japanese submarine during World War II. The boat was towed to Tulamben and left on the beach. When the nearby volcano, Gunung Agung, erupted in 1963, the boat broke in two and was left in the sea just off the shoreline. Dean did 2 dives through the wreck with Henk while Tracey ...

Mama, I am coming home

I woke up this morning with the feeling that there was something that I had to do. Oh Yeah, Go home!!! The past week, I had made several attempts to push my flights back a few days but American Airlines processes made it cumbersome. Probably just as well, I have gotten news from the homefront of my parents failing health so I need to get home, get everything in order, then head back to Ohio. I wanted to make the ...

... has about 200 shrines. They were having a ceremony at the time, so it was packed full of local people carrying baskets of offerings for the gods. Next we winded through miles of green rice fields to a water temple. This water temple was incredible, it was landscaped with reflection ponds, statues and flowers everywhere. We went swimming in two of the large, cold water ponds and walked on water across stone lily pads. We chose to ...

Does anyone actually read this

Well after alot of pressure I decided to write an entry. Hopefully its not too boring. Hard to believe but through alot of luck I managed to find the only good thing to skate in Bali, a private backyard concrete bowl. The owner was born in France, grew up in Flordia, moved back to France for a couple years and now has been living in Bali for the past ten years. I've been skating at his place and ...

... conditions with the altitude. On cleaning my bike for the plane flight into Darwin, i discovered a hairline crack in my already replaced rear hub. It was tiny so i ignored it and hoped it would go away.... I said good-bye to Elke at the airport at midnight which wasn't easy after being in each others pockets for the best part of 5 months now and i tried to imagine riding Oz without her behind (or in front of) me. Hope to update you all on my Oz adventures soon... Be good like me. Graham.

Would you like an egg in your coke?

... taken it up, though. Then we got fed and the rice was yummy and without side effects. After a bit of a wait for our bus (during which time I ran food errands and attempted to discover an atm, which was impossible). At 7 our bus began its long haul over to Java. It was a relatively normal night bus except they made us get off it for the ferry crossing, so we had a midnight wake-up. Then the bus decided to stop for "dinner" at 3 a.m. I kid you not ...

Sanur, Harry, and Monkey Poop Coffee

The slightly upscale beach town of Sanur is not known for a lot. It's nickname is 'snore' in refernce to it's compartive lack of frenzy vis a vis Kuta. Which was one of the reasons we headed there. The other two were that it is the jumping off point for Nusa Lombongan, and lastly it's sort of the home base for an acquaintance we wanted to spend some time with named Harry. But first the serenity piece. The largest contributing factor to our sense of serenity in Sanur was the ...

Our last few days in Indonesia

... Stayed 2 nights and generally just chilled and walked around, although the weather was really on and off so ended up doing a lot of eating and drinking. Celebrated Easter by having a massive chocolate cake. Finally we chose to finish our Bali trip in Kuta (where we started it) as we could easily do a few things there before leaving (laundry, internet, shopping, etc). Lot busier this time we think due to the Oz school hols. First thing we did ...
