... home has some surprises in store) nor any regrets about what we did or did not see or do. I have a dream that one day we will have an open ended holiday where we can move on when we are ready and decided what to do next on a day to day basis, to some extent that is what we have done on the last few trips to Africa but there is always the end date when the hire vehicle is due back and the plane home is booked and of course work awaiting us in the UK. This holiday was more organised ...

Toilet Talk

... toilet and when the buttons are pressed a little pipe moves out of the toilet seat and squirts your bum with warm water. It is not gentle, see the photographs. There are two different jets which can be stationary or wave about. Once you have been washed you press another button and hot air is blown at your rear, it smelt a little of burning plastic, slightly alarming, I presume it is from the seat. Will we be installing them in the Porch House? I think ...

Can we get to 3000?

Our last day in the country, we very much enjoyed our time in Yangshuo, one area we would like to come back to. There is nothing wrong with Beijing, Shanghai and Xian but once you have seen the sights then there is less reason to go back. The area we have been in (pointy mountains, villages, slow way of life) would be worth spending a lot longer in. Rubbish!

Hated it from start to finish. The single, only redeeming feature was that the air-conditioning worked really well.
(-) Breakfast - awful. Room - old, dirty, crumbling. Bathroom - awful, paint flaking off the walls, water never truly hot, toilet flushing awkward. Internet - is free in some rooms apparently. Just not mine. 60 kuai a day, and slow, slow, slow. Service - terrible. Woken to clean room! Kidding, no I'm not. At 9:15. The list of awfulness is endless.
Note: I stayed in the old, cheaper part. Apparently the new part (up the hill) is wonderful. I would advise anyone considering staying here to pay the extra 200 kuai and stay "upstairs".
