Ah Warmth

Ah yes, warmth! We arrived in good order and after a somewhat minor hiccup at locating the bus that would take us to the resort, we settled in and began to explore the the grounds of the Sandos Caracol. It was a little bit spread out and much larger than the resort we stayed at in Punta Cana, for that entry you have to search through the entries in the Hong Kong log, but after some wandering around we were able to orient ourselves without to much difficulty. The buffet was pretty good, we opt...

Doing Much of Nothing

Day Two! We ate a pretty good breakfast at the large buffet and it is amazing how much people load up their plates and end up not eating as much as they loaded on their plate. After that, we headed to the pool and just sat around. Yup. Just sat around and did a lot of nothing. The good thing about this trip is that we decided to bring our own beach towels so there was no running around or standing in line to get a couple of beach towels. Not to mention if you lose the towel, then it is $50.00...

Relaxation

We pretty much spent most of the day on the beach but I didn't end up like Kramer so good thing I did not lather up in butter. LOL It was quite a relaxing day of doing nothing again and I am almost done with the book.

... to crack your skull diving into a pond of well, skulls). Oh, lets not forget that the sun god needs something too, what can we give him? Blood! Lots of blood! Lets create a big old pyramid with a channel for said blood which trickles down from the top to the earth below, sun god will be like wow, how cool is that! The same advanced pyramid will also create a shadow of a snake which, over a period of several hours on the solstice ...

... 8217;t check credentials and ask us to make our own way to the marina. I cross my fingers the decrepit boat will make it. After a brief and useless briefing our Divemaster (if he really is that qualified) ties his wetsuit arms around his waist (he’s far too tubby to be able to wear it properly) and off we go. Considering it’s a fairly deep dive (between 20-30metres although it varies as we are led on a very seasaw profile) they ...

We do two sea dives, both have very strong currents, in fact it’s the first day in four that the boats have been allowed to go out due to sea conditions. Despite the currrent, and the bad visability, we see many eels, two lionfish, huge lobster and a damn big crab I woudn’t like to surprise.

The next day, still ...

... back to Palya and walk to our hotel, we are very tired and sunburnt. Showers and airconditioning are the most wanted thing on our minds. It doesn’t take long before we recharge the batteries and decide to take a walk down 5th Avenue by this time it is about 8pm. The touts our out vying for your business and wanting you to eat at their restaurants. We chat to one guy and tell him we will keep walking a bit more and then come back. When ...

... a half pint bottle (yes, the Empire lives on here, not just on the bank notes) of Belikin beer. Besides just staying relaxed and all that, Caye Caulker offered loads of diving trips (neither of us dive) and plenty of opportunities to get your hair braided. So we spent most of our time relaxing in hammocks watching giant pelicans swoop over our heads and frigate birds seemingly pasted stationary into the sky. The weather was pretty impeccable, the only issue ...

... poles hammered into the ground. These structures had no lateral support, so when anyway walked around in them they swayed from side to side which was rather unerving during a thunderstorm. Next day we headed to Flores in the north of Guatemala, this was to be our base to explore Tikal, the famous ruins in Guatemala. After 9 hours stuffed into a small minivan, we arrived at Flores, a town set on a small island in the middle of a lake. We decided to head to ...

You take showers here and don't stop sweating. Having no hot water here is definitely not a problem, even though it is available. Oh by the way, I am writing this from a hammock on the beach. What a life. The hostel here in Isla is great, it reminds me a lot of the movie the beach where Leonardo Dicaprio's ...

All cool peeps and the location is fantastic, although we had a rather large thunderstorm last night which woke me up! OK well my class continues in a while so I´d better say hasta luego and when i get rich and invest in a camera, i´ll be surely uploading my piccies for my blog. Cheerio, Amit
