... Bragg, I have a cousin who I have not seen for years. I think the last time I saw him was when I was 12 or 13....that is a long time ago. He and his family lives about 50 miles west of Fort Bragg. We will be at Fort Bragg for about week. (We are so lucky to be able to stay at these military RV parks...most are very nice and very reasonable). We are really ready for some warm weather so from there we will head south! ...

Choosing the More Direct Route Homeward

... out in the middle of the ocean. Filet of “Sole” for dinner...?

Throughout these first few days we were unsuccessful communicating with anyone via voice on the SSB radio. We could send and receive e-mail, with a bit more trouble than we were used to, but could only receive voice. We could hear Chris Parker on his morning weather nets and were able to get generalized forecasts, but we couldn’t ask him specific routing ...

    Awesome Budget Hotel!

    from anonymous

We went during the off season (mid-March) but this place was awesome. Oceanfront room, continental breakfast, great location for a really cheap price. Yes it's a budget hotel but it really was a good choice. My only complaint and recommendation is: DO NOT eat the seafood at their in house restaurant. That was expensive and crappy! But the hotel part truely rocked.

    Just OK

    from Travelten

Stayed at the Sandcastle May 7-9th. Room was small with 2 queen beds and I have shoe boxes bigger than the bathroom. It was tight for 2 adults and 2 children. Overall looked clean, but somewhat run down. ( No drain plug in sink or tub replaced with rubber stoppers) No real closet space to hang items. The staff was nice. The buffet breakfast was no reason to stay there, not very good, mini muffins and bad coffee. Would do well with a little upgrade. For the price I would look elsewhere.

    Great place for kids

    from anonymous

We went to Virginia Beach over spring break. It was our first time there. We were trying to save money, so we picked Sandacastle based on reviews that we had read. We're so pleased with our decision! We stayed in one of the Kitchenette rooms. Our room had a fantastic view of the beach. We were so close to all the shops along Atlantic Avenue. The pool was enclosed so we were able to swim even though the weather was a bit chilly. The hotel had a kiddie pool. We travelled with three children, ages 3, 6, and 10. Between the big pool and the kiddie pool, it was great! We were at the pools twice a day. The only disappointment was the attached mall. Nothing was open when we were there. That could have to do with the time of year that we were there though. All-in-all, we had a great time, at a great hotel, at a great price. We would stay there again!

    Well worth the money

I stayed at the Sandcastle during October of 2003. I had a great time being a beach bum...As a matter of fact, about the only times I managed to tear myself away was when it rained too hard to be out & at bed times. Each morning when room service knocked ( I also went back to the room for late breakfast & coffee breaks. ) I would be greeted by a cheerful, smiling face. I always had plenty of clean towels & wash cloths. I also managed to lose my room key to a Klepto-fish...never go into the ocean with the room key in your pocket !!! The desk clerk replaced it quickly...with only a smile at my expense ! The whole experience was super !

    Great experience

Check-in was smooth and effortless.Hotel was clean and spacious. The boardwalk is an excellent place to get some exercise and sun and great for people watching. The Golden Griddle resturant at the hotel was our fist stop every morning for the BEST chocolate pancakes on the planet!

There's an ice cream shop in the back for a quick cool off on the hot afternoons. I'd highly recomend the hotel to anyone.

    Va beach sandcastle hotel

    from anonymous

first time we stayed there, our bill was all messed up. a $120.00 mistake. the second time they cleaned our room and took all the dirty towels, but didn't replace them. had to call the desk.

    They screwed up my reservations

    from anonymous

Be aware! when you make reservations, make sure you get the hotel clerk's name and new confirmation numbers if necessary. After weeks of VA Beach hotel research on the internet and getting many brochures in the mail, I decided that Sandcastle would be the best fit for me and my family. I booked a room 2 months prior but needed to change the reservations by pushing it by a night. I called the hotel well in advanced and thought I was all set with the new dates. HOWEVER!!!!, when I arrived (terribly exhausted after 7 hours of driving and being pregnant) I was shocked to find out that they had no record of my date change PLUS because since I was "supposed" to check in a day earlier, they charged my credit card one night's stay ($175). Unbelievable! The clerks couldn't help me out ...they claim that because I didn't show up, they gave up my room PLUS there were no other rooms available for that weekend. The managers weren't there at the time either. No hotel...but a charge for one night's stay??!!! Of course I was fuming!!! My family and I had to scramble last minute to find another hotel in the area....luckily we found an oceanfront one, however, it was pretty gross AND I ended spending about $230/night (when I booked Sandcastle for $175/night). ....well, fortunately, the beach and the fishing won me over the hotel fiasco. I had a decent time anyway and I'm still arguing the charge to my credit card with Sandcastle. Lesson learned...I repeat, ALWAYS JOT DOWN THE HOTEL CLERKS NAME AND GET CONFIRMATION #S. Peace.

    Clean, well cared for

    from anonymous

We had stayed here before several times, when we went back this time..July 24, 2003, we found a much better organized front desk. Rooms had been freshly painted and were clean. Our air conditioner wasn't working quite up to par, but was adequate. Nice place to stay and cheaper than most of the oceanfront hotels. Located close to the best restaurant if you like seafood buffets. Fish Bones all you can eat seafood buffet is wonderful!!

    Great value;nice place

    from ripley304

we stayed at the Sandcastle last week. For the price, it is excellent.

Freshly painted, newly remodeled and clean. it has fantastic amenities - indoor heated pool, kiddie pool, nice expanded continental breakfast, refrigerator and microwave and fitness room. it does not have an in room coffee pot, but there is free coffee available in the lobby 24 hrs a day. It is near the 14th street pier and very close to everything downtown. it isn't high class, but then neither is the price. I have stayed at many hotels in beach areas and none of them have been fabulous, they are high traffic and become worn quickly. the staff were so friendly. we would definitely stay again!

    We always go there

    from tbarker

We go to Va. Beach about 5-6 times a year. While not the fanciest place on the beach, it's clean, roomy, and affordable. Since we sometimes take the grandkids, having an indoor pool is priceless. You can stay here for about $60 in the spring and fall--you can't beat that!
