... One other thing to be aware of- small spaces with fresh fruit/veggies on the counter are good breeding grounds for fruit flies. We found this the hard way, especially since it was warm weather still. We tried the apple-cider vinegar in the coffee cup with plastic wrap method but in the end found that the fly strips works best to eliminate them. And keeping all veggies and fruit in the refridgerator or in enclosed containers is a must.
