The zoo is enormous, as you can imagine and built into the side of a canyon. There are lots of hills but thankfully a lot of vegetation that allows for shade. Another good thing is there are shuttle buses that come along the hilly, farther out points about every fifteen minutes or so, and will bring you back to flat ground. ... then climbed up again to about 4000ft through the most amazing rocky outcrop that I have seen the mountains were just like huge piles of big rocks.
We arrived at the hotel and settled in, the hotel is an old bank which has been converted to the hotel after a bit more shopping in the handy Westfield's shopping mall ( I can't believe how much we get ripped off in Australia for clothes ...
... up until the 1870s, the city was centered around the old presidio, or fort, that the spanish military built. some of the old buildings still survive, but by and large the buildings are now mainly replicas hosting lots of mexican gift shops and restaurants. we had a good shop around and enjoyed dinner sat outside in a mexican cantina.
with full tums we made our way back to the hotel.

Next it was onto Seaport Village for lunch, real hot dog and fries later and a quick trip around the shops and stalls.
