... the sun that didn't want to. Lisa and I chose outdoor seats in a shady spot on the back of the boat, put up our feet, slipped on our headphones and enjoyed the 2.5 hour boat ride. The sea was reasonably calm and the boat didn't rock about very much at all. This was good news for Lisa and I who have both had bad experiences with rocky boats and sea sickness. It was so calm that we didn't even bother taking our motion sickness pills and still enjoyed the relaxing ride.

... an hour and half, there would come a high-pitched persistant noise from the trees, the first evening i thought a fire alarm had been set off, but it turned out to be a type of insect in the surrounding jungle. Thankfully it would subside, and all would become peaceful again, the crickets would chirp me to sleep and i would wake to the sound of birdsong and loud Australians shouting to eachother.

Bus scams and sweaty train stations...

... dinner it was back to the train station where we met some great people, ate some yummy green mango and rice cakes and waited and waited and waited. The train was late... and by the time we got to our Air conditioned 3 1/2 by 8 foot cell we were exhausted. Bri had had it by this point and didn't want to think any further than a cold beer and sleep. I slept very good - but was quite cold - I didn't find the control vents until I went to get up the next morning.

Entry to Thailand

... this woman tried to sell us more bus tickets to go somewhere else we weren't exactly polite. She tried to tell us how horrid this place was that we should go now then when we asked her to tell us where the hotel was she started telling us they were full, but then apparently it smelt at that hotel so we shouldn't want to stay there and i'm pretty sure there was another reason we should go there. The funnies thing though was she was telling us we were pronouncing it wrong! The name of ...

I hate you, Surat Thani

... whatever language it was for almost an hour, not caring that I'm already trying to sleep.  After all, it IS an overnight sleeper bus. I was SO uncomfortable by this girl because I wanted to smack her too.  Eventually I got up and took my blanket to the very front of the bus where there's a ledge over the driver (it's a double decker bus) where some people had their bags and I moved the bags to the side and laid down there.  It was rather comfy because I could stretch ...

My Suan Mokh Experience

... one out for you! I found that chanting had a positive physical effect that has an advantage for meditators. It helps to expand or at least warm up your lungs so that you'd be able to do some deep breathing practices, if you wished. Chanting was followed by a short practice of loving-kindness meditation led by this other nice Thai nun. Usually she would verbally lead the group in sending out postive energy and intentions to your friends, family, people you've wronged or have ...
