Hello All Finally managed to get to a PC with working Internet! Its been so fustrasting as so much has happened that I wanted to update you all on my ventures. I am currently sat in the only air conditioned part of my school, the library so will be spending all my time here! Its about 40 C outisde but is so tropical and muggy there will be no sunbathing. Thai's aren't big on tans, they spend so much time avoiding the sun and actually buy cream that whitens their skin! Its mad to think that th...

... br>I used the internet in a place stinkingly close to research the highlights of the area, and my questionning (and perhaps easygoing) nature led me to end up going out for drinks and games of pool with the people who owned the internet place I was using - a nice Thai lady called 'Poo', and an equally nice Thai chap called 'Day' (at least that's how their names were pronounced - I didn't ask for the spellings). 'Poo'-'Day'...perhaps theres an omen in there ...

Kanchanaburi: A Rail of a Time!

... I thought he was checking tickets so I handed him my ticket. The Thai military man, with a submachinegun at his side, just laughed hysterically handing back my ticket.

At around 1am, we stopped at a blue and green gas station while everyone was sleeping and I noticed the cargo door light go on and the doors open. In the reflection of the windows of the bus next to us, I could see the cargoman opening up bags in the cargo hold and ...

... Railway particular to Hellfire Pass, a part of limestone mountain cut out using only tools and dynamite by POWs and Asian laborers during WWII under Japanese direction. This part was constructed during the "speedo" period (I know, HILARIOUS), when the Japanese engineers realized they were falling behind their impossible schedule and made the workers work 18 hour days during monsoon conditions-- meaning intense heat and also more disease due to ...

... away from somewhere I've wanted to stay. Usually I just rock up and there's always a room. Ended up somewhere along the river a bit out of the way. Didn't do much the first day I arrived. Hated the town itself. Really seedy and horrible. Lot of middle aged western men hanging around in bars with young Thai girls. Get the impression there's a bit of a sex tourism scene here. Didn't feel so good that day so I headed back to my room and fell asleep really early, giving ...

... be disrespectful. Once we reached the 7th and final waterfall, Tom, Ben and I went for a dip again. We had a lovely shower underneath the waterfall. There were less fish in this one, so not as much nibbling occured. Chris was taking our photo under the waterfall, but Tom thought he was being nibbled, we then saw about 10 fish right next to my legs slowly building up the courage to nibble my legs, Tom made me panic, so I tried to ...

Markets and Bridges and Tigers, Oh My!

... experienced some 5 years ago - times and dollars change things I guess! We stood in the line and watched time tick by. I was thinking to myself, "we might never get to see the tigers before the park closes." So we decided to step out of our budget-minded-backpacker mode and make a special donation to the monks - 1,000 Baht - to get special treatment and a photo with a tiger lying on us! At first we were told we couldn't because the tiger used for that particular ...
