Canary Islands
This summer I went to the Canary Islands with my friends. We did a lot of things there; we went to the swimming pool, partying, to the dune beach, and to the aqua park party...
Also, one day we went to one beach where there were a lot of water sports and we practised the motorskying, parasailing and a los of things.
Finally we come back to Spain with hangovers and our bodies very pained becouse we fell many ...
Madeira to Puerto Mogan, Gran Canaria
Madeira is magical! A wonderful, luscious and calm island open to explorers and botanical enthusiasts alike. Quite a contrasting island to the other Canary islands which are fairly baron and dark, Maderia is bright, green and buzzing with natural life. Leaving that behind on the morning of Wednesday 19th September we set off briskly in a well fuelled and provisioned Taboo for a three day sail to Gran Canaria (where she'd been 5 years previously).
Unfortunately the wind ...
Chillin on the Beach in Africa - Almost...
My very last European mini-vacation was to Playa del Ingles, Canary Islands! My friend Leigh and I went in celebration of the end of her semester! I had just got back from chilly Amsterdam and she just got back from Liverpool so we thought it was definitely time for the beach!
The Canaries belong to Spain, but are super close to Morocco, so we've technically been to Africa haha! Gran Canaria is a really cool island, but nothing like I expected! It is a desert ...
Hols with the Family
... Mogan. This a beautiful little port although over the past couple of years it has somewhat reinvented itself and is now designed to attract the tourist and the tourist euro with all the designer shops and overpriced goods. Having said that it was a pleasant couple of hours and we had a nice Tapas meal at one of the many restaurants.
The weather has been superb today with hardly a cloud in the sky. It is now 6.45pm and the sun ...
Gran Canaria Field Research

Historical Traveler Reviews Riu Palace Meloneras Resort Maspalomas
Fantastic Hotel
Great service, wonderful location, superb food - all round a wonderfully realxing holiday.
The hotel staff were very very good both in the dining rooms and at reception. The quality and selection of food was the best I have seen, both at breakfast & dinner. Our room, in one of the villas, was spacious, very clean and had a good balcony were we spent plenty of time.
The hotel is close to a small parade offering both quality shops and restaurants as well as the sea front. Many evenings were spent watching the sun go down and the surfers whilst enjoying a drink at one of the outside restaurants.
Very nice hotel
We stayed here after arriving at another hotel that was terrible so picked this as from the outside it looked fantastic, on the inside we were not disapointed either, very grand and clean everyone was really friendly.
Rooms were fantastic very clean, just what we like.
Only two english television channels which were news, could have been improved as we had a small child so waiting for the entertainment at 10 pm was not an option for us, and that was the only problem if you would class it as a problem !!!
We have been many places this is going to be a hard hotel to beat, very nice and will be going back.
Oh and the english will have to scrub up on there language skills as main guests at this hotel were german !!!!!!!1
Superb Hotel
We stayed here in Oct with our 6 month old baby. We had an early arrival and a late departure but the staff went out of there way to be accomodating. In all aspects of the hotel were the staff outstanding and catered to our needs with our baby. The front desk staff went out of there way also to assist in finding information for us when we asked. Rooms were clean and good size. Food was excellent - a huge range of foods. Breakfast was always eagerly awaited with juices/smoothies being freshly sqeezed and omlettes cooked to your liking. The show cooking in the evening was outstanding also. The pool area and gardens/grounds are fantastic. The hotel is in a perfect position - handy to the shops, transport, with the promenade directly on the doorstep. Lots to do in the surrounding areas. The room cleaners added special touches to the room e.g folding towels into swans which we did not expect. This hotel certainly deserves its rating and more. A perfect holiday in a wonderful hotel. Wouldn't hesitate to return and we wish we could every year.
Fantastic Hotel
We have stayed at the Rui Palace Meloneras several times. The service and food are very good. The hotel is very clean and the grounds are lovely. I would certainly recommend it. I have also stayed at the Rui Palace in Tenerife, which is also very nice.
Excellent Hotel
We have recently returned from the Riu Palace Meloneras where we stayed for one week. We travelled with our 8 month old daughter. All the staff were every pleasant, the hotel is very clean and tidy and the food was up to the usual excellent RIU standard, with dishes to suit all tastes. We stayed on the half board basis, the hotel does have a restaurant with a large selection of food at lunchtime, but there is also a number of restaurants outside on the promanade at the rear of the hotel. The hotel had plenty of sunbeds and not a problem with people reserving them. The hotel caters very well for those with pushchairs/wheel chairs as there are ramps adjacent to all external stairs. very nice hotel and would consider returning.
Excellent hotel!
We stayed for one week at the Rui Palace Maspalomas, in one of the villas. It was excellent. Although we had a late arrival (after 9pm) they made every attempt to get us dinner. Since we wanted to put our 10 months old daughter to bed, they arranged a dinner in our room after 10pm. We did not asked for it, they just offered. Staff is extremely friendly, compared to other parts of Spain. Hotel guests are predominantly German, Dutch and Belgian. Either with small kids 30- or 50+. Limited evening entertainment. Room cleaning service was very good. Very friendly hotel for kids/babies. No beach in front of the hotel, but 800m down the boulevard. Two very nice pools, and one kidspool. Very clean. More than enough beds available at the pool, although the hotel was full during our stay.
Dinner (buffet and a la carte, per your choice) is very good with lots of variety. Breakfast (buffet) is also very good. Reserving beds with towels is not allowed (too bad for the Germans ;-)
Drinks are priced reasonably.
We also checked out the other RUI hotel in Meloneras, which is closer to the beach. That'd looking much more outdated. Would not go there.
It was our first time at Grand Canary Island, just wanting to catch some sun for a week, and not hanving to spent too much money. In the last few years we've been to luxury resorts in the Caribbean (Barbados, Aruba, St. Maarten, British Virgin Islands), did sailing trips on StarClippers (starclippers) and went to exotic island resorts in Malaysia. So, we know what's out there......
In conclusion: we would definately stay there again and can recommend it.
First class hotel
We have just spent a relaxing week at the Riu Melonares. This hotel chain we have found to be always reliable when it comes to service accomadation and food quality. We stayed in one of the suites which overlooked the smaller of the two pools. It had a small but comfotable living room which was nice if you wanted to relax and watch the TV. There was also a small private patio with sun loungers. Despite the size of the pool area it was always peaceful and relaxing. We stayed half board but also ate lunch at the hotel pool restaurant every day. It was excellent quality as was the evening meal. The bar staff were efficient and friendly and after the 2nd night knew our drinks order. We would recommend this to anyone looking for a relaxing holiday but without children as there was nothing there to occupy them
Topm class riu
Top quality Hotel in good position. Excellent food and service. The best I have stayed in.
Just a wonderful experience
Just returned from Gran Canaria. Excellent hotel, comfortable, clean, with extremely professional staff, fine food, beautiful garden, nice ballroom and bars, close to everything, beach, restaurants, shopping centers. Hope to remake such a good experience. A heartly thanks to every person of the staff.
Service with a smile
Absolutely first-class hotel which was spotlessly clean and always fresh. All staff were friendly and efficient. The choice and quality of food was excellent as was the selection of drinks in the lounge bar. Overall a really top quality tourist hotel with many desirable amenities.
