Nice facilities and large suites. A little remote from the tourist things we wanted to do = lots of driving. Nearby Sentry store good for groceries. Quiet this time of year. More of a summer lake destination. The other couple we traveled with had lots of problems with their suite (no hot water - needed new water heater installed; leak under kitchen sink; blinds that don't close; noisy bathroom fan). Our gas fireplace was not working properly. Another small annoyance was the guest printer in the office not working.

The drive to our Worldmark condo in Clear Lake was very beautiful. Rolling green hills with forests were everywhere. We arrived after traveling 17 miles of mountainous curves around 6 PM. We had already been on the road for six hours!

The resort is situated on Clear Lake, two and a half hours north of San Francisco. It is a Spanish Mission-style design. There was a pool, kiddie pool, a large hot tub and a dock/pier which you can walk out on the lake on.

Our condo was on the second floor of the building and had an upstairs master suite. Everything was clean and up-to-date. We had a tiny problem with ants showing up but just a couple. The grounds were well taken care of and the staff was very nice and helpful. I thought their idea to put cards with suggestions on what to do in the area by the staff was a good one. I wonder if they have a little competition with a prize to see whose suggestion cards get picked up the most.

On Saturday morning, Roger & Dar picked up their rental car and we all headed out of town before the downtown became gridlock due to the annual Chinese New Year parade. It may have been interesting to see but even our Chinese hotel clerk, who lives in the downtown, said "I won't be going. Too many people pushing and shoving. I just go home and …

... and set out on this journey with an open mind, ready for whatever the culture had to offer. It indeed is a whole different culture. Some may call it a culture shock. In a way it is, but a welcoming one. The Italians definitely remain close to their traditions and culture, not wavering to the outward pressure of other countries. Remaining true to themselves. This is admirable and what gives Italy the attraction it has.

For some reason I've been procrastinating writing my entry for yesterday. I feel like most of it is to controversial. I got into a huge laughing fit because of the combination of our eccentric living environment, our reaction to finding a dead skunk and mouse in the swimming pool and our loss of mission to recover a small metal piece from the wine bottling apparatus that one of us might have swallowed. We all faced the question from the boss of ...

On the way back to Newport, we stopped at Beaver Creek for a pic-nic lunch. The kids climbed trees and played hide and seek – until Adam knelt down in dog poop. So we had him strip his pants and started the drive back. As we passed Walmart (Adam’s favourite store) ...
