Historical Traveler Reviews Renaissance Golden View Beach Resort Sharm El Sheikh Sharm El-Sheikh
Lovely hotel with friendly staff
We spent a week over Easter at this hotel and enjoyed our stay immensely. The hotel was full but, because it is spread over a large area, was not in any way congested. The reef is particularly good for snorkelling and benefits from being away from the bustle of Naama Bay. I share others views about the limited choice of restaurants, but the standard of food was good, in particular the buffet lunch by the pool which was varied and very reasonably priced at 9 GBPounds per person (children no charge !). The staff were probably the friendliest I have encountered in any hotel worldwide. We will go again.
Good but a few teething problems
Me, my Partner, son of 13 and daughter of 5 got back yesterday. The hotel is beautiful and in a lovely setting. Extremely clean throughout the hotel and staff are friendly and helpful. We had booked a family room which we were told sleeps 5 people. When we arrived we had a bedroom with a large double bed and one sofa bed in the sitting room which is no good for two children so basically room was sleeping 3. We were told they were fully booked and couldn't produce another bed until the next morning. As it was now 10 pm there wasn't a lot we could do so our daughter shared with us for the night. Other people apparently had similar experience. Much worse was the rail to the balcony was completely loose and we couldn't possibly allow our youngest onto the balcony by herself. The next day they did fix it 'in a fashion' but it was still dangerously loose. No beach as such at hotel either. Childrens Club totally disorganised and animation team (2 girls) wandered around looking the part but not doing anything. Breakfast very good, pool service excellent (the guys work so hard). Naama Bay very busy and touristy - 10 min taxi from hotel. On the whole we did have a good time but they need to get themselves better organised.
Wonderful Place
I have just returned from the Renaissance at Sharm and can only say what a lovely place it is, with very good facilities and extremely friendly and helpful staff. It benefits from being in a superb location on the reef so the snorkelling is fantastic, just like being in an aquarium.
The only diappointment was in the choice of restaurants within the complex. It was billed as having a buffet restaurant, a Mexican and an Italian, but the Italian is not yet open, which does limit the choice somewhat, although the existing restaurants are good. The buffet breakfast being an especial favourite. However, we did walk the couple of hundred yards to the Hilton Waterfalls where there is a very good Italian bistro and an excellent Lebanese restaurant, both very good value for money.
We are definitely considering a return trip next March.
I will definatlly go back again!
the staff are very kind and friendly, once you arrive at the hotel the 5 star class begins! i have to say that i WILL DEFINATLLY GO BACK AGAIN! you will just DIE when you see the lobby it is just fantastic!
Beautiful place, brilliant attentive staff
This hotel lived up to its great reviews and to my expectations which were pretty high.... We were certainly not disappointed!! The grounds were gorgeous and perfectly clean. The housekeepers were so friendly as were the waiters. All the food in all the restaurants was first class. As soon as you arrive at the hotel, the excellent 5 star service begins. Everybody is really friendly. The pool boys are ready with fresh towels as soon as you walk towards a sunbed. If there is not a sunbed free, they will find one and bring it to you (with or without a tip!!). The beach area is quite extensive, staged at several different levels. For those of you already booked - enjoy! Those who haven't yet booked - what are you waiting for?!
Fabulous Holiday
23/2/05
Returned Sunday night. Fantastic Hotel, fantastic weather (Hot)
Can recommend Bedouin trip and trip to Luxor (Valley of Kings is unbelievable!) Wish we'd booked for 2 weeks...1 is definitely NOT enough!!
Will be returning..... Excellent food and all staff are extremely polite and friendly.
Well worth a look
Quite simply the Renaissance Golden View is a great value resort that lives up to its five star billing without damaging your bank balance.
We stayed for a week recently without knowing too much about it. We had been due to stay at the Hyatt but were bounced out at the last minute by our operator. The Renaissance was a more than suitable substitute and we had a great holiday.
Don't be put off by the fact it's a few minutes outside Naama Bay. That's a bonus. Naama doesn't have an enormous amount to offer and it's an easy, and cheap, taxi ride into town if you want to go. The hotel does operate a free shuttle service into town as well although this was frequently oversubscribed and not frequent enough for a resort of this standard.
Once you're in the resort the facilities are good and the rooms more than adequate. We were upgraded to a beachfront room which was lovely. The only minor quibble was soundproofing between rooms as we had an interconnecting door.
The pool areas are excellent and spacious (although the Aqua Bar really needs to extend its range of CDs). The beach is a typical man-made Red Sea beach and don't expect to go paddling, you're on a reef. That does make for some great snorkelling and diving though, within a stones throw of your bedroom.
The food and drink in the resort is good and, although more expensive than the Egyptian average, still really reasonable by UK standards. Breakfast is a big buffet affair with plently of choice although it would have been good if the other restaurants had offered more typically Egyptian/North African food.
Staff were generally on the ball and keen without being in your face.
All in all we had no complaints and found the Renaissance to be a great base for a Sharm stay.
Wow - What a lovely place
Stayed here end of November start of December 2004. Went without the kids for a week just me and husband and we had a suite. Everything about it was lovely. Eating in the hotel is not exensive at all. out on a peninsula past nama bay (very, very touristy- we left after an hour - hassled to death). Because of the teraced design not for anyone with mobility issues.
One heated pool over by acapulco joes diner. Whole place great for couples or families - dont feel over crowded at all.
Great resort in perfect location
A great hotel. The rooms are huge and the facilities excellent. The photos on the Marriott site do not do it justice! The beach is constructed but the location for the reef is ideal and hotel is not on the airport flight path as it is a few km outside of the centre on the other side to the airport. The buffet restaurant is very good but the choice of other restaurants in the hotel is limited (an OK Mexican & more casual pizza/sandwich bar and the Italian is still to be completed). I'd recommend staying B&B and eating there at most only on a few occasions if you are there for a week plus. They do not have imported wine and Egyptian wine is frankly poor.
Excellent hotel
Just got back from an excellent stay at this new hotel.
The good points - first class facilities, stunning location, friendly staff who really care about their guests, spacious well equipped rooms and quiet grounds.
The negative points? With so much high quality, low cost food available neaby in Naama Bay I would stick to B & B; the food in the hotel is very good but with such a wide variety nearby it's a shame to restrict your options. The area around the hotel (and the Hilton Waterfall and Ritz Carlton) is still very much under development and looks like what it is in places; a building site!
The reef off the hotel is great for diving; a good taster for a longer boat trip to Ras Mohammed.
All in all a great place for a family holiday; we're already looking at the brochures for next year!
