Ranthambhore Road Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, India, 322 001, 91-7462-221120
A comfortable two and a half hour train journey in reclining seats in air con carriage and we were in Sawai Modhapur station, just a few kilometers by auto rickshaw to our "resort" hotel, which itself is just 4 kilometers from the Ranthambhore National Park entrance. Confortable rooms in bungalows covered in foliage and flowers in pretty grounds. Rahthambhore is 410 sqaure miles and apparently has 31 of India's 1400 tiger population. The safaris are in jeeps for 6 or "canters" for up to 20 pe...

... and ten minutes later, the little calf wanders back up the platform to goodness knows where...... only in India :o)
So far we have travelled by 2 classes of train ticket ac with seats and 3rd class both good but different, the train from Mathura to Sawai Modhopur was about to present us with a whole new view of the Indian Railway system. Scooting along the very long trains to find our coach (you cannot walk through the train to keep the classes ...
... the side of the road for another hour and several of the other jeeps had called it quits and drove off to drop their passengers back at their hotels. Just as we were getting ready to do the same, our driver yells "Tiger Tiger Tiger!!!!". And there she was...strolling about 100 yards away from us going back to the core area of the park. You would think an animal that is orange would stand out against the park background...but it was amazing how ...
Ranthambore National Park, Rajasthan, India bwulz... impressive historic monument situated on a hill top in the Ranthambore national park. We had brushed up our history and our driver cum guide told us a couple of things. It is believed to be one of the oldest forts of India, built by the Chauhan rulers in the 10th century . Many rulers are said to have attacked the fort and occupied it, the Mughals handed it over to the royal rulers of Jaipur who preserved the forest around the fort and used it as ...
Ranthambore National Park, Rajasthan, India sagaruday... it is). Even without the excitement of the tiger, however, this was a worth while day because we were able to escape the city for a little while and enjoy a day in the sun. We are now in Jaipur. We will stay tonight and tomorrow night and then we say good-bye to our driver and head west by train. Still no photos. I try for 20 mins every time and I think the computers are too old and connections are too slow. I'll keep trying. :)

Animals; another owl, dozing in the broken branch hole of a tree; many spotted deer, some with small fawns; several of the larger, blue coloured, sambur deer, some of which have fabulous antlers; cormorants; kingfisher; water snake; tree pies; parrokeets; many troops of langur monkeys, some with tiny infants; a crested serpent eagle; many peacocks and tigers?...............................w ell,............... maybe it was the tigers ...
Ranthambore National Park, Rajasthan, India harryandnorah... wandering passengers. Everyone ****** their pants at the towing items and they were instantly thrown aside. Back to plan A. Ramming other vehicles into the back of stuck bus to dislodge it......Namely, our jeep. While I was sitting in it! Communication to passengers/guests/customers is not that common in India!! However, as David quite rightly pointed out at the time, what absolutely everyone failed to bear in mind, was the terrifyingly close proximity of ...
Ranthambore, India mrsdp... the odds of seeing one is getting smaller due to poaching and mismanagement of the forest. We were hoping that our luck would be good but unfortunately, it wasn't and the closest we came to seeing the tiger was the tracks that one of the cubs left behind on the trail that we took. So we took a picture of the tiger paws and left the park knowing that we would have another chance at spotting tigers in the Sunderbans Tiger Reserve ...
Sawai Madhopur, India josie_ty... We walked out of the resort towards the nearby hills. There was an ancient temple up on a hillock and we decided to take a small trek up. The view from up there was panoramic. On the other side lay the Ranthambhore range, encompassing the park. At 275 sq. km, this is the smallest tiger reserve and, hence, has a better record at sightings. Thanks to the tireless efforts of park officials and well-meaning locals, the ...
