The past 2 days luck was not totally on our side so I was hoping today it will change its course.
We started the morning right with satisfying breakfast. Hmmm so far so good. Everyone's up reaaly early to get that Kuta action. We already cancelled Uluwatu so we have the rest of the day for a shopping jaunt and surfing.

I didn't fell an instant admiration for Ubud the way I did with Kuta. Probably because our stay here was really short and 1 day is not enough for me to totally grasp and absorbed the mystic and exquisiteness that people love about Ubud. The rest of the pack however felt otherwise. Pa and my sis wished we could stay longer . They admire the …

Check out was at 11am this morning, winner! Meant I had time for getting up, breakfast snack with in room coffee AND a bath before getting on to the boring task of repacking our bags ready for the flight later today. Beyond this, we were not sure if we wanted to achieve much else. Lazy travel day it was going to be.

... been to. Very glad she didn't get it done before and we came back to Bali, on the very last day of our long incredible trip.October 28th we flew from Heathrow to Japan, and month by month worked through 7 countries in 7 months; Japan, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Utterly incredible. So scary and sad to be ending it, but also exciting to think about the new adventure we're about to have in Australia.

Great place for a family vacation

    Reviewed Apr 19, 2014

We recently stayed at the Ramada Bintang Resort for 8 nights over the April school holidays. The hotel although on the older style now, is in a great location and well maintained in a beautiful garden setting. We had two interconnecting rooms 1115 &1117, one room for my husband and me and the other for our two kids aged 15 and 23. Not sure how well sound proofed the rooms are as like others, we also had the noise of the guests in the rooms above moving furniture around late at night.

The breakfast buffet was amazing, everything you could want from Asian style through to western continental, fruits and eggs cooked to order. The pool was huge, very deep (1.7m) for most of the pool with a shallow kids area at one end and swim up bar at the other (you can play bingo here at 2pm most days).

The staff are wonderful and friendly, room service was delivered promptly. The rooms were cleaned every day without issue. There is a small fridge in each room, and we organised an iron and ironing board from housekeeping which we kept for the entire stay.

The airconditioning in the room was set to very cold, but we manage to override the controls to increase the termp so it wasn't quite ice station zebra every night. However, we did note that most things in the room became very damp during the week as the humid air from outside condensed in the cool room, I understand now why the TV remote is in it's own plastic cover.

The Wharf Restaurant had a Western and Indonesian menu well priced and good value for money. Cocktails worked out at less than $10 each, better if you bought during happy hour but make sure you purchase the cocktails from the right list. Lovely position on the beach so you can catch the amazing sunsets, in fact, you can stay in the pool and still get a fabulous view.

We also went to the Wednesday night BBQ Buffet with the Ramayana dancers. This was free as part of our hotel package, food was great as was the Balinese dancing (still not sure of the story, but hey, you have to do these things).

Bikes can be hired for a few dollars so that you can ride along the beach walk, my husband and I did this early one morning as a "free cycling tour" hotel activity, but you can only ride as far as the airport to the south and the Hard Rock Hotel to the north. Make sure you get a bike with a bell as the path is well used by runners, walkers and other cyclists including motorbikes so it can be difficult to navigate.

There are two shopping centres nearby - Discovery Mall to the North which can be reached along the beach walk (this mall has Centro department store and a small minimarket) and the newer Lippo Mall to the South (about a two minute walk from front entrance gate of the hotel). Lippo Mall has a hypermarket downstairs selling groceries, liquor, clothing, souvenirs and household stuff - very handy if you forgot to pack your toothbrush. Beware however the hawkers will accost you every time you step out of the hotel on the beach side, they will ask your name and then whenever you walk past the will hassle you for manicures, pedicures, massages, hair braiding, and sell you sunglasses, jewellery and shells. Go out the front of the hotel and you will be hassled to hire a car or taxi.

The taxi fare is only a few dollars to go into the main part of Kuta (beats walking in the heat) but make sure they have set the meter when you get into the cab. The hotel has drivers inside the grounds but we found they wanted to charge significantly more than what you could get out on the street. And every taxi driver will ask you to hire their car for the day.........

We organised a hire car for a day and three external activities whilst we were there, the car and two excursions through the hotel tour company and the fourth through a street vendor who offered me a great deal. The car and tours we organised through the hotel we could not pay by credit card (apparently the internet was not available at any of the times we tried to book during the week) which meant we had to scramble to get the cash to pay in advance each time - you'd think we would learn! Strangely enough, the street vendor was happy with me to pay a cash deposit for the tour with the balance paid by credit card when we arrived at the actual tour company centre.

The only real issue we had with the hotel was that although the hotel now provides free wi-fi, the network is very unreliable and is down more times than it is up, and when it is working is very slow. With tech savvy social media focussed kids this can be quite annoying, albeit a first world problem! It did make it difficult to check work emails whilst we were away but we were supposed to be on holiday anyway. There are two computers in the lobby which can be used for free, we used thesed to do our on-line flight checkin and print boarding passes without too much difficulty.

A great family holiday location, just what we needed.
