... Hervey Bay'. So the day arrived and we turned up to Hervey bay. Once again our naivety had beaten us as we thought Hervey Bay would be a bustling hub of young excitement .... how wrong we were!!! As we drove into town we soon became aware of the increasing numbers of people from the 'older generation'. Posters soon told us that we had arrived bang in the middle of 'senior fortnight'. This is where all the oldies in Aus get together and bash people's legs ...

so i finally went. yesterday, i finally got to the Australia Zoo... and it was awesome! ... all day today. In and out of the rain, humid, but not quite so hot, still high 20's.? Stopped in Rockhampton for lunch, and then after dark in Hervey Bay, little resort town on the ocean front. We wandered the strip in search of food, and ended up with pizza on an outdoor patio. We decided to spend an extra day and night at Hervey Bay, walked the beach up and down several times. Son proved he really loves his Old Man by driving us safely back to Brisbane, keeping up a lively banter while I spilled his pineapple juice all over mommy's treasured 4WD. Oh, what a wonderful world! UPDATE 4 December 2008: I have red blotches all over my arms and legs. I am itchy! Anti-histamines and creams only help a smidgen. I HATE MIDGES!

The day has finaly come (Sadly) We had booked our Container from Strang Internatioanl shipping in Brisbane and arrange a space on the ship bound for the UK. We arrived into Australia at Perth in January, Ater crossing the continent from west to east and standing out like a sore thumb the media attention finaly caught up here! ... to visit my friend daniel and her family. i haven't seen her since i was about 16, so it was great to catch up and get some insider information on other options on the sunshine coast. she and her family pampered us as well. it is so wonderful to stay in beds and homes after so long on the road. we have come to appreciate our international friends in a much deeper light ...

... a train, about 45 minutes got off at the bus station. After 5 minutes the bus pulled up and another 45 minutes later I was a short walk from the Scarborough marina- it was a pleasant enough experience, even with my new backpack, so that I've decided not to buy a car and rent if need be for short periods. The US really needs a reliable, efficient public transport system in all major cities at the very least.
