Arrived Saturday evening after good flight but 3 hours then spent getting through immigration and customs. Weather very pleasant. Hotel on the beach. Lovely warm see. Trip to local island (Mujeres meaning "Island of women") today where mode of transport is then a golf cart!!!! Off for day trip to Chichin Itza (City built by the Maya people) tomorrow then off down the coast.
... fact that there is a giant Walmart in town. What was fascinating is that some of the items I had looked at in Fort Lauderdale were in this shop too, only they were about 40% more expensive here, which is really sad considering the average wage difference between the people of both nations.
So, I bought all I needed for the rest of my trip, planned my time in Mexico, and was ready to move onto "real" ...
... headed to the dive shop to get our equipment. On the way there, one of the dive instructors told us that the visibility is around 100ft (30m) in Cozumel. All geared up (my first regulator did not have a depth gauge....), we headed to our first dive site, the infamous Santa Rosa coral reef wall. I had already done my deep dive so I was paired up with someone else so the rest of the guys could ...

We went for a wee wander along the beach later and we walked in the water a little bit to some coral rocks, and because the water is so clear we saw so many fish. It was excellent, just like we were snorkelling, we could see so much.
We then went to get prepared for new years eve beach party. We bought a few drinks to have on the dorm while we were all getting ready. We had a barbecue on ...
... Mexico City and the roads were really dodgy. Then apparently in the 60s when drugs became all the rave foreigners heard that you could get mushrooms and peyote in Oaxaca so it increased travel to the area, because of the increased tourists they put in a highway which made it more accessible because it’s only 450kms from Mexico City now. Oaxaca has a great feel it’s very chillaxed, especially after Mexico City, and safe, it’s also very beautiful with all ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Westin Resort & Spa Cancun
My husband and I just returned from our stay at the Westin (November 26th through December 1st). Here are my thoughts:
Three of us went to Cancun November 8th through the 13th and had a wonderful vacation. We went all inclusive at the Westin Regina and have no regrets at all. The Westin is down on the Southern most tip of the island and just a short 5 minute walk to the Palancar Reef. The hotel was tastefully decorated, very comfortable and the staff extremely helpful and courteous. I believe we had the best view to be found on the island from our balcony. One direction was the reef and the other you could see the entire hotel zone which was beautiful lit at night. The all inclusive food enabled us to eat from the various buffets during the morning and evening. or order off the menu at the various restaurants. Though it didn't include room service we did order take out one night and just took the food to our room with us. They had a wide variety that offered something for every taste. The all inclusive drinks we great too whether drinking at the bar or at dinner or under a Palapa on the beach. The hotel has several pools all over the property so there is never one more than a few steps from anywhere you might be. They offered reasonable discounts on various toura and we decided upon Xcaret. If you go to Xcaret, skip the 90 minute tour in the morning and just go out on your own. Or better yet just go for the evening and enjoy the wonderful night shows. We had the vacation of a lifetime and I would not hesitate again to go back to the Westin. It's a little secluded, but we enjoyed that. It's easy to get anywhere in town or on the zone by bus for 6 pesos or .60 cents U.S.. The best snorkeling I've found anywhere is only a short walk away. Huge brain coral, fan coral, stag horn etc. We saw large sting rays, a wonderful variety of the most beautifully colorful fish and even a baracuda or two. We spent one full day just snorkeling there and enjoyed every minute of it. I will go back and I will stay at the Westin again. I have read some of the previous less flattering reviews and wondered what I wa
I had a wonderful time, I stayed at the Westin Regina Sept 28th- Oct. 8th! It was great! I met a lot of new people, made a lot of friends, and the resort had something to do everyday! It was great. Daniel and Adrean were two of the workers who worked in the athletic depratment, the did an excellent job! Activities all day....from water vollyball to bingo! it was great, I am definately going back.....in fact I am goin back very soon! :) in one month! :) I would reccomend this place! It was a great time!
We arrived early in the day and were greeted by extremely curteous help. From the very start of checking in until we left we had smiles on our faces. Georgeous room, the whole complex was extremly clean. Food was so good we didn't have to go anywhere else to eat. Beautiful beach -
just all out enjoyable vacation. Go back? Absolutely.
Westin Regina Resort Cancun
This is an Ok resort if obtained at a good price. It's a good base for doing the daily tours due to its location at the southern end of the hotel zone. It's also possible to snorkel from the hotel, which can't be said of other hotels in the hotel zone. I had requested one of the lower rooms and it was fantastic, extremely large. Nice spot to walk right out and suntan. The beach is - well there is no beach worth mentioning. Everything is expensive, so we caught the bus for meals and entertainment. They will try to hound you with the timeshare crap - I managed to avoid 'em. It's a long way from anything, so that should be considered. I would only stay here again if the price were such that I couldn't afford not to. Below average.
We just returned from a stay at the Westin Cancun Sep 4-10, 2002. This hotel is full of contradictions. The wait staff and bartenders are excellent, polite, and very knowledgeable. The desk staff; and in particular the concierges, are worthless. While the waiters are polite and know all about customer service, the desk staff is rude and doesn't want to assist you with any problems you may encounter. Further, the concierges are only out to get you to sign into a timeshare agreement. If you are firm with them and say no right off, they have no use for you and treat you as such for the rest of your stay.
When we arrived it was 11:30pm and our room was small and smelled. After upgrading to the 6th floor we had a beautiful view of the ocean. The housekeeping staff was very unfriendly and the bathrooms are not very clean. The towels are dingy and the bathtub did not work. The rooms are small and have double beds. The 6th floor includes breakfast and happy hour and Marcel is just a delight. He was very helpful with the many problems we encountered at the hotel. I don't think we would stay here again.
The Westin was overall a decent hotel. My husband and I got a great deal on Expedia (airfare and hotel) so I can't complain; however, if I had paid the going rate for this hotel ($160 and up) I would probably have been ticked. To sum it up, the Westin:
We visited Cancun from June 19-22. We'll definitely go back to the Westin Regina. We had an all-inclusive deal and we're surprised to find that the food was excellent in all of their restaurants such as El Palmar and Las Arrecifes. At the latter, you can pay $12 extra and have a five-course meal! Service was impeccable. I loved the location. It was on the southern most tip of Cancun so you didn't have a large "partying" crowd. Don't get me wrong, we're 27 and really enjoyed the open bar but the Westin regina had a mature feel. Caspar, the bartender at Sunrise Bar was great. WE hope he'll be there in a year. Rooms we're up to our high standards and the beds really are heavenly. Building design is very modern and cool and of course, the beach is beautiful. Only bad thing is that we wanted an outdoor hot tub and they only have one indoors at the gym. We'll see them in one year!
I really liked the accomodations at this hotel. They were very friendly, and the bed as advertised "the heavenly bed" was very nice and comfortable (down comforters and pillows). The hotel restaurants were OK, room service was good. Hotel itself very comfortable. The only think I didn't like was when I was approached by the time sharing offers. They were very persistent and I wasn't there to buy anything, simply to relax. They also have sweat baths for a small fee, it was really great because I wasn't sore after a whole day of snorkeling at Xcaret. I would return.
