The Trip So Far

Friday, May 30, 2008 Okay, so I'm in the lobby using the free internet access and my computer is about to die! So, I'll just set this up and write more later. It's our second day here. My husband accidentally took my cell phone charger to work, so I'm feeling cut off from civilization ... or at least from all communication! I came down here to e-mail him ... he told me he won't be home until 9 pm or later! I'm disappointed, 'cause it's Friday and it will be dark before he returns. I have no r...

Fun-filled Weekend

Good afternoon! I just uploaded all the photos we took this weekend. I will come back and write more about it next time. Andrew had to go to work early this morning so I slept late, had a nice breakfast (made-to-order omelet at the buffet) here at the Hilton, then uploaded these photos. I'm hoping Andrew is able to come back from work early today since he had to get up so early this morning. I'm thinking about going out to the swimming pool for a while after I eat lunch. Andrew was off work S...

Day 4 Maui to Kauai

I woke up at 6:00 and went to the gym at the Grand Wailea. It was probably the nicest gym that I have used at a hotel and which they didn't charge extra. I wasn't sure what type of facility that they would have at our next hotel so I worked out all muscles. Dave East was staying at his parents' condo in Kihei so we met up with him for breakfast at Spice's in Kihei. It was good to see him as it had been a long time. He told us about his new girlfriend from Russia and we told him about the wedd...

Day 6

This morning, Mariana got up around 8:00 so we had an early breakfast before driving up to Kalihiwai Beach. Jennifer Schielke told to go there because it was her favorite. We could definitely see why. It was beautiful. The beach was at the end of river valley surrounded by steep hills about 100 feet up making a great cove. The waves were great for body surfing and there were very few people there. While Mariana relaxed on the beach with my laptop, I ran back up the hill and found another grea...

Landing in Kauai, HI

Once we landed the first thing we noticed was that the airport was open air with few windows & red dirt around the strips. From there we got our rental car after some ID finagling... & we were off to find our hotel. We stayed at the Hilton Kauai Beach Resort. I liked it, bill thought it was ok for a 4 star.

We will be back

from A TripAdvisor Member
A true four star resort! We found the room on the fifth floor, oceanview, to have an amazing view. The room was very comfortable and well furnished. The resort was just the right size, not too big and crowded like the Sheraton. The service was excellent and the staff was very friendly. The location was perfect for seeing the island and getting to and from the airport. The only negative aspect was the very average food in the dining room.

Great Getaway!

My wife and I decided to take a last minute vacation get-away and bought our vacation package via the internet. We stayed 7 nights at the Radisson and found it to be a great place to stay and relax. The location of the facility makes it an ideal place to stay as it is reasonably close to to the North and South shore as well as reasonably priced dinning. We found the resort to be very relaxing as it has a long stretch of very secluded beach. I undersatnd that the beach is not good for swimming. However, in speaking with some of the locals, surfing is good in front of the Radisson (not for young kids though). The service, food and Radisson personal were excellent and rooms very nicely decorated as well as clean (absolutly no evidence of any roaches as mentioned in a previous review!). We have stayed at resorts all over the Hawaiian Islands. While the Raddison is not a Hyatt or Marriott, we were very impressed with the "natural" Hawaiian atomosphere of the property. We loved our stay so much, we phurchased a 2 bedroom vacation timeshare (Pahio Kauai Beach Villas) located on the same property. We look forward to our return visit next year.

Loved the Radisson

from A TripAdvisor Member
My wife and I stayed here for 3 days in early April and thoroughly enjoyed it. I gave the resort a neutral rating only because it was the first time I've stayed at a "resort" hotel. All I can say is thatI've been at a lot of hotels and this was the nicest all round stay yet. The lanais were small though and I would have been dissappointed had I paid for a high end room and they were the same size.As for the bugs/roaches mentioned in another review...there wasn't a sign of them in our room. I'd be interested to know if this is a seasonal thing.

Radisson Kauai Beach Resort

Enjoyed a great stay at the Radisson Kauai Beach Resort. Very nice facility, great customer service. We really liked the atmosphere and views. We had a corner room with an ocean view. The food was also very good. The Happy Hour is a must with the torch lighting ceremony and native dancers. The only down side was the bed in our room was very hard. All in all though I would highly recomend this resort to stay at and enjoy. We went to several of the 5 star resorts and for the money we got the better deal.Mahalo

Disappointed on Kauai

from A TripAdvisor Member
Very disappointed with the Radisson Kauai. I used to live on Oahu and this was my first trip back as a tourist. On the same trip in February, we had spent time on both Oahu and the Big Island at less expensive hotels with less high ratings that we enjoyed so much more. The grounds of the Radisson are beautiful with waterfalls at the pool, but the rooms are dark (huge, dark furniture that overwhelms the room with only the lanai window to let in natural light, and curtains which permanently cover 1/3 of the window), and very small with postage-stamp sized lanais (literally barely enough room for a small table and two chairs). I love to sit on the lanai in the early morning, but our "original" mountain-view" room overlooked the parking lot and valet parking. There were no ocean-front rooms available, so we upgraded (at a cost) to a "pool-view" room which turned out to be at an angle to the pool, so you could only see the pool if you were actually on the lanai and craned your neck. The concierge desk was only mildly interested in our comments. As for roaches mentioned in a previous review, we didn't see any, but they're the norm in Hawaii. When you're local, you get used to it (sort of). We stayed 3 nights and wouldn't go back. Give me Kona-by-the-Sea any time!

Beautiful at first glance

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I attempted to stay here in September (2002) for our honeymoon. At first we were so impressed everything was beautiful. The people were so nice at the front desk. We checked in and went to our room. It looked beautiful. We went out to dinner and upon our return we found that they had sent up complimentary champagne. We drank our champagne as we were swatting away some bugs that were flying around. At first we figured it's tropical and you just have to deal but we finally figured we should call down to the front desk and let them know that they need to spray in the morning. They asked us if we would like to change rooms. At first we said no but with more and more bugs appearing we decided to change. When we opened the door to our new room we were amazed. They had changed our room to one of their suites. It was huge and beautiful. My husband put his keys down and went into the bathroom. I didn't even get a chance to sit down before he came back out told me to grab the bags. As we started to collect our belongings AGAIN, I noticed that these same bugs were running up the walls across the floor and on my luggage. I couldn't figure out what they were because as they were flying around too. Once the front desk person came to our room to help us with our bags. I asked him what all these bugs were.....he smiled and hesitantly said, "Um, Roaches". Call me niave but I never knew roaches flew around. I was completely devastated. We spent the next half hour checking out of the hotel and flicking roaches off our bags and out of our stuff. This was the worst trip of my life.....and unfortunately it was my honeymoon. If you can help it......stay somewhere else.

Radisson Kauai Beach Resort is Great!

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Radisson Kauai Beach Resort really made our trip to Kauai and Maui. The Radisson exemplified excellent customer service. Every employee was so friendly and helpful. The grounds were well manicured and there are tons of pools on the grounds for swimming. The sand pool right in front of the beach was particularly relaxing. Although one can't swim at the beach right there, it is very beautiful and walks in the sand are still very much enjoyable. The manager's reception from 5-6 every evening (yes--free drinks!) really topped off our stay. The central location of the Radisson can't be beat. It serves as a great starting point for day trips to anywhere on the island--to the North Shore, Waimea Canyon, Poipu, etc. Great value for the $$.

Very relaxing

from A TripAdvisor Member
Our stay at the Radisson Beach Hotel was the best hotel of our trip. After spending 3 days in Honolulu, it was nice to spend some time at the RAdisson in a very relaxed atmosphere. This was the only hotel we stayed at that had free valet service and free telephone calls from you room (everywhere we stayed at you had to pay $1.00 every time you called an 800 number). We also enjoyed the free cocktail hour at the pool everyday.

The grounds were beautiful and the room was large (we stayed in the king size bed room).

The staff were very friendly and helpful.

We would stay here again.

Could use some work

from A TripAdvisor Member
We were not as impressed with the Radisson as some of the other hotels we stayed at during our stay. The staff was always very courteous and the grounds clean. The room was somewhat small, however we were happy with the beautiful view of the ocean. We were disappointed to find that the pool closed at 6pm. That didn't give us much time to enjoy it. Located close to many excellent resturants but 30 minutes from the beautiful Poipu Beach. The concierge service wasn't extremely helpful, very busy. The Luau Dinner show was entertaining and the food was excellent. The Terrace Resturant in the hotel could use a makeover. The quality of the food didn't live up to the prices on the menu. Although the beach in front of the Radisson is not for swimming or snorkeling, there is a beautiful beach just a short walk away at the Outrigger.

A great value honeymoon!

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed 12 days at the Radisson Kauai Resort and got a great deal. I made the reservation over the internet and was more than happy with what they offered us (which included a car rental for the duration of our trip and upgrade for our honeymoon). The resort is a really beautiful place to stay, lovely gardens and pool and a good standard of room. Service was always friendly and the staff went out of their way to ensure we had a good stay. Overall, a very good 3 1/2 to 4 star hotel.
