... actually only lunchtime! We had some great food at the Beechworth bakery (which is busy for a reason!) and wrote back to the caravan park to shower and change via the information centre. Unfortunately, the 'peddle to produce' program I'd read about a few months ago is on a temporary hiatus as they revamp it and print new brochures, but the information centre lady told us a little about it for when it is back up and running, and gave us suggestions on places we could ...
Beechworth, Victoria, Australia cheli... police occured.

We then spent a few hours at Beechworth, an historic little town which still has an operating telegraph station. We went on a scenic drive along the gorge (which was quite narrow with our big bus!)

After we headed down to the town of Bright and then into Mount Beauty, stopping at the overlooks of the town.
Beechworth, Victoria, Australia zoeandgigsWe arrived at Beechworth only half an hour away from Wanganderry. As we arrived in Beechworth,we found a caravan park.We took it and started putting up the caravan. While mum and dad were taking up the caravan,Marc and I were riding our bikes to the park and throwing the frisbee. Now today was actually the first day we'd been in a caravan park. For dinner mum went looking for a shopping centre. When mum came back she had bought our dinner and some salad. We ...
Beechworth, Victoria, Australia macphails... low prices. I am still perplexed by her about-face, as it seems to me that as Christians, (or as people in general) it makes no sense at all if we send money to third world countries to help ease their poverty, then buy from companies which create that poverty in the first place by providing poor work conditions. She did not seem to agree. For more info on the ethics of large companies, visit ethical.org.au, a website which has some great information about the benefits or ...
Wodonga, Victoria, Australia wayfaring"Suffering" through the heat wave, we were happy to know that the Madras had planned a waterski party on the Murrey river for the evening and then a "barbie" afterwards. There house is backing the river, so not a long way to go. The river is down, so we do have to trailer the ...
Albury, New South Wales, Australia tstewyBus to Albury. SO HOT! Theres a major heat wave going through Aus right now. Temps in the 105-110 range where I am. It makes walking any sort of distance with a backpack pretty unfun. I did basically nothing in Albury, got in about 9 pm, left around 11 the next morning. To be honest, it didnt seem to have much to offer and I had no desire to stick around longer than I had to.
Albury, New South Wales, Australia murf6481... I guess with temperatures at 38 - 40 degrees Celsius in Spring a siesta comes naturally. It has a nice centre with cafes, air-conditioned malls, 2 big supermarkets, a library with free internet (only 1hour per day - but I'm not complaining!) and some charming buildings from the pioneer days. Our hotel was almost a century old, too, and an experience to stay in (free breakfast, friendly staff and free bar snacks certainly helped!). Plus, it cost only half as much as our ...
Albury, Australia tom_s... I have to say that with the drought, Lake Hume has receded somewhat - so much so that all of the boat ramps we have seen stop at least 30m from the water's edge. Got into the site OK, but soon learned something else - still getting a lesson at day at least. Not a good idea to back on to the ramp (used to ensure the van is level on the site - these sites aren't all that level, in fact we are on the wrong side of this site ...
Gerogery, Australia newtripper... caused the breakdown. There wasn't, and our confidence that the garage would have to fix the van free of charge was rapidly ebbing. True to his word, Jason turned up at 7.30 the next morning to take us to the garage. It didnt open til 9 but they let us sit in the waiting room watching Monsters Inc and drinking tea and we became so relaxed that it was a nasty shock when one of the mechanics came into the room with a grim expression and the opening line "I'm ...
Mt Hotham, Australia conor-and-wendy... at take it home, but couldn't bring ourselves to bash the things over the head once we had caught them. Instead we fed them. The crazy golf was good, apart from Sarah trying, wether on purpose or not, to try and drive the ball 300 yards with a putter. She nearly took Tom's head off a few times with her shots. I did get a hole-in-one which Tom was a bit miffed with as he didn't. After the goldf we carried on back home but not before stopping off to see some kangaroo's in ...
