When we arrived, a still smoldering kitchen fire engulfed the lobby in smoke, though no explanation was forthcoming. It was downhill from here. The room though advertised as recently remodeled was old and tired. The "complimentary breakfast" wasn't. A common complain heard in the elevators. Housekeeping was hit or miss. A leaking ice machine soaked our carpeting and we had to insist on a room change. We contacted both Best Fares and Quality Inn about our experience but received no response from either. Though we continue to use the chain in the West we would certainly not recommend this one.
My wife & I stayed here second week of September - Luckily, did not pay attention to the other unfair reviews. Location was good - free parking a plus. Was given the second best room in hotel (after the penthouse) Paid next to nothing via "hotwire" website. Room was H U G E. If you want to stay away from the "tiki" bar noise - ask to stay on the other side of hotel. Beach was ok. Not as nice as the water further south in Fort Lauderdale. Water color at low tide tends to be more like tea then turquoise....elevator is still slow ...just punch the button for the lobby before you need it !!!!
Should have known better Ouch!
I do not know where to begin. We checked in on the 28th of July our room was ready when we arrived. The elevators do not work very well; they are slow and noisy sometimes taking 5 to 8 minutes to open. The room was ok nothing great rather dated furnishings with worn carpet. The view out our ocean view window (RM3--) was to a torn blue canvas roof over a service area and a blue tarp on top of the restaurant area. When we reserved our room the Choice Hotels web site stated that there was a complementary FULL BREAKFAST included. I called the front desk to inquire what the hours were for breakfast and was told that they had NO breakfast. On July 1st I checked their web pages from my laptop and it said that there was a continental breakfast included, this was not true. Well on the 2nd the work crews arrived in force (20-30 guys) with drywall and carpet, come to find out there was a fire on the top floors and a flood on 2 middle floors. These workers took over one of the elevators as a large sign was posted on the elevator door stating this was for workers only not the guests. They had a fire inspection on the 6th of July so these guys worked 24 hours a day (SUPER) my family was awakened to the sound of hammers every morning. As we would make our way to the pool in the morning there would me 8-10 guys ogling my wife as they waited on their personal elevator. When we booked our rooms your web site said TVs with Extended cable package and HBO again not true the televisions at best had viewable pictures on 20 channels with NO movie channels, also INCLUDED was on site fitness center (NONE) coin operated laundry center (NONE) The beds, Quality sleeper by SERTA mattress, well the beds are another story. They sagged in the middle and are in terrible shape the pillows are no more than 1 inch thick. The Tiki Bar was a local bum hangout with another fine blue tarp roof. PLEASE hotel customers, go to the BBB of Pompano Beach and file a complaint I AM! There are NO complaints on file, this is why we stayed there.

This place was in the process of being renovated but it looked like they were just getting the place ready to tear down. The staff were competant but never seemed to want to go that extra mile for us. The room was spaceous but that was about it. The hallways were disgusting and smelled bad. The room although clean was old and run down. The air conditioner was falling apart literally. Our promised ocean view was a balcony where you can sort of see the ocean. Stay here as a last resort but don't expect to be satisfied.
Nightmare on Ocean Drive
We arrived on Thursday before the Juy 4th holiday, with reservation for several ocean front suites. with refrigerator, microwave & stove. They claimed that they did not have oceanfront only oceanview which was clearly a lie and there was no stoves only the penthouse suites (which by the way the manager had for his friends) We were there to checkin @ 3 pm, the orginal rooms they gave us were all on different floors and then one of them did not have an a/c, there was an actual hole in wall, we finally got into rooms around 6 pm and standard rooms not the ones we had paid for. Thank God for the great customer service of Publix Supermaket which took back our groceries. Management here does not care. None of our phones worked in our rooms. One of the TV never worked and of course they never came to fix it even though they said they would. We had an unfortunate serious illness in the family on the day of checking out, the front office staff said they would not rescue because the hotel would then be charged. By the way the elevators never worked and they do not have a service elevator. Every single guest was complaining. The so called tiki bar is just a hang out for the locals.
The entire hotel staff and management should be replaced because no customer service training will be able to change these people. The hotel should close down make major repairs and then open with knowledable and customer service oriented staff. We have stayed in many hotels and there has never been a hotel as horrible as this. Please if you want to enjoy your stay even for one night book anywhere else but here!!!! If you book thru the internet they will treat you last third class citizens!!!
This Hotel is the worst Hotel I have ever stayed in.First of all, the Elevator took a few minutes to get to you (the workers also used the elevators which also slowed them down). I used the stairs most of the time, my room was on the second floor, you know, right above the blasting music of the tiki bar, and night club bar. You try to get 2 kids to sleep with music blasting in their heads. Yes I complained, none the less they didn't change my room.When I got to my room, the keys didn't work. The keys to the room only worked 1 time, you needed a new key to get into your room every time. The hotel people said it was the "System" and it was a normal problem. riiiiiight. They said they get demagnitised from cell phones and other credit cards, but I kept them in separate pockets so that was not the pblm. I saved all the keys just as a reminder. I have a bag of them, and those are just mine. My father and son did not keep theirs, they also went through about 15 of them each. If you forgot to get a key from the front desk you would have to go back downstairs to get a new key.. The beds, well the beds are another story. They saged in the middle and are in terrlble shape. My back and neck still hurt from them, so I slept on the floor !! no kidding, it was more comfortable. The pool, it was GREEN, you couldn't even see your feet in it. I made my kids go to my sisters hotel pool to swim. At night it glowed Green. (Blue and Yellow = you do the math) Although the last day I was there it looked cleaner. Ohh, the rooms were clean and tidy...

The elevators worked fine when I was there. The service was good, beach and pool were great. Would definately stay there again. You couldn't beat the location, right on the beach with an oceanfront view from most rooms. Look forward to going back.
My husband and I just returned from this Hotel on 3/17/03. They do not have a service elevator and the regular elevator was constantly breaking down. We were located on the 5th floor, and the first day we were there we had to walk up five flights of stairs carrying luggage because the elevator was stuck. We also had to walk down 5 flights of stairs also because of the elevator. When you were able to use the elevator you had to wait for it forever, and then it creaked when yoiu were on it like it was going to break. The hotel management didn't care, and the maid service was slow. It is also located in a noisy location.
I laughed when I read the previous review. We stayed there in Feb. 2003 for 3 nights. Even though I had a confirmed reservation for a king-size bed, they insisted that it was just a "request" and they didn't have any king-bed rooms left. Then they promised to exchange our room the next day, but again didn't keep their promise. Then the clerk promised us a free night, but at checkout they refused to honor that promise. The manager compared his reservation system to the overbooking done by airlines. Then he promised to call us the next day to straighten this out, but never did. Basically, everybody at this hotel will give you a story to get you off their backs, but then they won't deliver anything they promise. Stay somewhere else!
Comedy of errors!
This hotel has bad managment. They gave away our room the first night and gave us a free night at another hotel and a discount at theirs but when we checked out they would'nt give us a receipt and we were charged the original amount that that we prepaid on the internet. The resturaunt has a confused staff the tiki bar has nothing tiki about it. The rooms were nice and clean but all the errors made our stay frustrating and they even checked us out a day to early and insisted we checked out. There were alot of people complaining all over the hotel were it almost became funny. We should have stayed at the Sands hotel that they sent us to.
