We took a weekend trip in August. I was dissappointed once I saw the hotel and the room. Their website shows a luxurious hotel (for the price, it should be) and advertises that it has been completely rennovated. The drain in our tub also would clog up while taking a shower. We will not go back to this hotel. For the money it should have been a lot nicer and cleaner.
No problems at the Princess
Recently returned from a 6 night stay at the Princess Royale...a little nervous after reading some of the reviews here. We had stayed there 7 years ago, with no problems and were pleased to see that the cleanliness and helpful staffed was still the norm here. Our room was spotless, cleaned every day before noon. Plenty of towels. The staff at the front desk could not have ben nicer. Upon check in our in-room safe was not working - after calling the front desk someone came right up and fixed it in 5 minutes. We did not eat at any of the restaurants at the hotel, but ventured to Nicks (for ribs..very good), Philips (for Seafood..good), Mackeys on the Bay (don't bother), and Dough Rollers (decent pizza). Go on the Discovery Boat tour to Assateague Island to see the wild ponies. It is a great trip for kids (and adults...leaves from the bay side). Also drive to Bethany Beach for some upscale shopping on the main street. Enjoy -
On July 31, 2003 we arrived at the Princess Royale at 9:00 am. I went to the front desk and asked if we could get a early check in. The staff looked in the computer and stated that would not be a problem. By 9:20 I was in my room with all our luggage. The room was clean and the staff was very helpful. I would stay here again. The pool was clean and the atmosphere was great We had a great time.

I stayed in July, I had a nice poolside suite, and the rooms were clean, and the staff very nice.
Great family spot
My husband and I stayed here with 3 kids in July 03, for a dance competition. The staff was polite and efficient. The hotel was clean and convenient. It had a great indoor pool with direct access to the beach. The room was a little tight but it didn't matter. My only problem was that I had askedbut did not get a non-smoking when I booked in Nov 02., but we adjusted quickly to the slight odor. It turned out for the best because the second floor is direct access to the pool.
Also my son burnt his hand on the stove the maid had left on accidentally. The hotel tried there best to make up for it. I would recommend this hotel, if fact my husband would like to go back.

What a nightmare.Dirty ,filthy,institution food,serious signs of defferred maintenence,unbelievably maddening hotel design(ask anybody who has been there)Atrium is a dump..no more than a vacant mall food court with a foul-smelling indoor pool,cheap furniture,suspicious house staff.Not a single person that I asked(and I asked everyone) was a return visitor.All said that they would NEVER GO AGAIN!! WHAT A RIP OFF>>ABOUT AS LUXURIOUS AS A SLAP IN THE FACE!!
This place is a dump!
I made the mistake of booking a room here for business travel. The website looked nice (definite false advertising) and I am unfamiliar with the area so I gave it a try. I had my business travel agent book a room and he was quoted a charge of $269. per night. I found rates of $129. on the internet so I called and had him change the rate. I arrived in the evening, and saw a Welcome Highschool synod sign. Needless to say noone mentioned a teenaged jamboree when the reservation were made. I said to the front desk please see that my room is far from the action. I walked through the lobby of ratty, filthy furniture, walked through dimly lit halls of filthy grungy carpeting and went to my room. To be fair, the room did have newer looking carpet and was clean looking. It did have an odd smell which I attributed to the carpet. I was put in a room two floors above a bunch of screaming, yelling teens. After a sleepless night, I got up for my business trip and tried to take a shower. One big drop was all that would come out. The tub was gross, so a bath was out of the question. I packed up my stuff and decided then and there that a second night was not going to happen. I made my way down to the front desk and let the assit mgr know that I was checking out early. Her shower was obviously not working either as her hair was greasy and dirty looking. I told her about the shower not working and her response was, "Why didn't you call maintenance?" I explained that I was on my way to an appointment and didn't have time to wait for plumbing repairs. She said it was my duty to give them the opportunity to fix the problem. ( Wasn't before I arrived an opportunity to fix everything????) I told her that I was checking out because of the lack of shower and noise and disruption from the other guests. She said, That's fine but we are charging you for the second night because you didn't give 24 hrs notice before you cancelled the second night. By this time, I am annoyed at her complete lack of intee for me. The other manager there was quick to pull cards out of his pocket, and let me know that I could write a letter to the company to request some sort of resolution, but that he and this other woman were unable and unwilling to do anything else. I left tired, unshowered and disgusted. Don't let a fancy website fool you ... this place is a complete dump!
Went when the snow stopped on Monday, friends had agreeded to get together for my birthday for a 3 day celebration. We had a wonderful time. Place nearly empty because of the storm. Employees super accomodating, fast service in restraurant. Will return!!

I'm agreeing with the previous post but i'm saying it was more terrible than what she described because we had alot more problems with it!! we stayed last weekend too. The biggest kiddie party ever weekend!! We had alot more problems but if you're looking for a place to stay and not using anything at the hotel just the bed it's okay just for sleeping. That's the good part about it basically. the first problem we had was our reservations were a gift to us from a friend. She had booked it as the romantic getaway weekend package. She had called three times to confirm everything was okay and our room was waiting for us. We were not told about the kiddie convention at all or even made aware of it and they knew we were going for a relaxing retreat. They could have made us aware of the kiddie convention. Second our room was on the same floor as the convention, You think they could have let the kids and everyone with the conference have their own couple of floors so they could only disturb themselves not the other paying guests that weren't with the conference. That would have been the polite thing to do. I'm agreeing that we couldn't use the pool either. That and we had to go to a store across the street to buy towels and washclothes because when the housekeeper came the next day to take the dirty ones she couldn't leave any for us to take a shower because they were out of inventory, due to the big conference. Why should we have to wait for towels and washclothes so we can take a shower? Next the problem when we finally got our showers was the bathtub was super clogged. none of the water was draining out at all. When I went to step out I slipped and hit my head on the bar for the soap. I went to the front desk to inform them that our tub was not safe enough for use and their attitude about my complaint about me falling in the bathtub was really sad. :( All they said well have someone unclog it and that was it. I think I should have had some sympathy at least or a free bottle of asprin for my headache. W
m to please unclog it for the next person because it may be someone that's elderly and might have a fall worse than mine and really get hurt. I'm lucky mine was just a little lump and not major. I think we should be given a discount at least for them telling us we had the romantic getaway package and they were having the big kid party and didn't even bother to inform us at all and because I hit my head and fell. you think when housekeeping cleaned the bathroom before we checked in they could have seen that the tub was super clogged and fixed it then. But maybe they don't even clean the tubs before each guest. I think the employees there just need a class on proper customer service because their attitude towards their guests was really sad. I would rate my experience one and a half star because we had alot of problems. :(
Could have been better
I just spend this past weekend at the Princess Royale. It was an off season weekend and my husband and I were hoping for a nice quiet weekend in a shore town. Instead we were in Kiddy City. Apparently there was a soccer convention going on and the hotel failed to tell us that there would be approximately 300 teenagers roaming around freely. Our accomodations were fairly good, every room has a living room and kitchen. The furniture could use some updating but the facilities were pretty clean. There was an indoor pool (which we could't use because the kids were in there the entire time) and a lounge. If your looking for a quiet retreat this isn't it. If you have a family and are looking for a great place for kids, this is a winner for you. One word of advice, don't bother with the breakfast special room service. It's not worth the money!
