Historical Traveler Reviews of Port Lucaya Resort & Yacht Club
It is NOT good place for families
from lovejazz
My travel agent made a mistake and instead of booking a suite at Our Lukaya (where we ended up after just looked at what was offered us at Port Lukaya), reserved a suite at Port Lukaya. This place is run down, motel-6 like at tropical climate. Staff is friendly but this is the only positive thing I can say about that place. It is NOT on the beach, very close to noisy Market. Needless to say, that after a quick look at our "suite", we crossed the street and had a wonderful rooms at Our Lukaya.
Nice view of yachts when you open your door!

Well I read reviews good/ bad.. I saw once a gripe one here about people hanging out at pool that were locals. We too saw it one night at hot tub so we being gals could not go out there to enjoy BUT NEXT day I saw security sitting by pool. So maybe they caught on to it. We could smell a musty smell at times. Due to being near water this can cause this to happen. We did have an issue with phone that upset my family back in US. Each time my family would call, hotel said the line was busy, this went on for 2 days. Finally my boyfirend called to speak to the manager, who then came to my room. We were told a do not disturb was on my phone which I did not place on the phone. A new phone was placed and block was lifted. My boyfriend was given a conflicting story. Towel/ bar guy was so SUPER!! VERY NICE GUY MADE MY DAY A FEW TIMES. At night so nice to walk around and see boats, can hear music from Count Bassie, close to food. Not a bad walk to beach, pretty nice staff. Pretty good value if you need to save money Better than Super 8 in US. Nice breeze, relaxing, laid back. Two thumbs up for towel man who work the Sunset cruise too.
Great Place for Families

We just got back from a great 5 days at Port Lucaya Resort. We almost didn't go based on the two anonymous reviews that appeared on this site in December. Clearly, those writers had an axe to grind, because Port Lucaya Resort is quite nice. The pool is big, clean and kid-friendly. My kids made friends with lots of other kids staying there. The rooms are simple but clean and comfortable. Being right next to the Marketplace is a big plus because you have so many restaurants to choose from. Security was not a problem at all and the staff was super-friendly. The brightly-colored two-story stucco buildings surrounding the pool/courtyard give the place a charming tropical air, and the surrounding Marina was very picturesque. It was great to be able to step out our sliding door, onto our little patio and into the pool. The beach was right across the street, the snorkelling boat was steps from our door and the Dolphin Experience was a block or two away. And there's even a coffemaker in the room. Certainly it's not as luxurious as Our Lucaya, but it has tons more charm and is a great value. We will definitely be back.
Great Place!

Were there Jan 24th thru Jan 31st 2003. We Loved the location, the hotel was located right next to the Port Lucaya Marketplace, and walking distance to all of the local hot spots. The travel service in the hotel was great, found us the best prices and locations, (thanks Katherine!). Only down side was the walk to the beach, but the large hot tub made up for that. The name implies a resort, however its just a nice hotel.
Not fancy, good value.

Just returned from a week at Port Lucaya Resort and Marina. Didn't know exactly what to expect based on recent reviews. Was pleasantly surprised. Place reminds me of a typical beach motel in the U.S. back in the 60's & 70's. Nothing fancy here, but our room was comfortable and clean. It's very convenient to the marketplace nearby and the beach is quite nice and about a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel. The staff was very friendly and responsive during our visit. Security seemed to be pretty good. They also seemed to be doing a fair amount of renovation in terms of replacing bedding, painting etc. It's not the place to go if you're looking for lots of amenities, restaurants, cocktail lounge etc., but if you're looking for an okay room and a convenient location at a reasonable price this place should meet your needs.
Really well run

We rented a Jr. Suite in the new building. The view was great, the room was spacious and comfortable, but the thing that made our visit a success, was the excellent service from the hotel, and the overall friendliness of the people all over the island. We have visited MANY resorts all over the Caribbean, and this island is the cleanest, and the most prosperous with out the attendant crime. We went scuba diving with Sunn Divers, who we enjoyed, and did the Dolphin Dive with Unexso, which was great. The Casino at the Holiday Inn, is not especially well run (over an hour to get our jackpot winnings), but Our Lucaya will be opening theirs in March, and I am sure that they will run it as well as they run the rest of their resort. You can get coffee as early as 6:00 in the lobby of your particular building, and a full breakfast at 6:30, so it is easy to make early tee times!

This place is not where you wanna be in my opinion. Me and my family changed resorts after the first night because it was so run down and DANGEROUS. Dangerous for two reasons, your ceiling looks like it could cave in plus theres drunk locals hanging out around the pool and outside your room.
Really Bad

We just returned from a 5 day stay at the Port Lucaya Resort and Yacht Club. This is a very nice little resort. The location is perfect - right next door to the marina and the Port Lucaya Marketplace, and right across the street from the beach. The resort itself is pretty impressive. Clean rooms, large pool, and nice landscaping. We only ate at the onsite restaurant once, but the food was good and the prices were low.
The Our Lucaya resort complex across the street was also very nice, but way overpriced, in my opinion.
Stay here, have fun...

In May 2002 I lodged at 3 different hotels during a 9 day stay on Grand Bahama. Pt Lucaya was my favorite.
Good things - I was able to walk-in and negotiate a rate of $75.00 plus $14 hotel tax nt. USD. That is a great rate. It is across the street from Our Lucaya which has a great beach, many facilities and entertainment and great restaurants. Pt. Lucaya is next to Lucaya marketplace and marina which has many shops, restaurants, bars and activity. Nice accomodations with a balcony. Big pool with a poolside bar/hut. Overall I was pleased. I could walk to all my necessities and it was a fun place to stay.
Bad things - really only one; they charge you $10 day USD if you want a mini fridge in your room. No elevators.
I would recommend staying here.
