Our last full day in PV we stay by the pool. I got a massage at the one room spa. She did a good job. I think it was the smallest full service spa I have been in yet. The hotel, as a promotion, gave me 25 percent off services, which was the amount I spent on the tip the massage was inexpensive. Marty encouraged me to get a spa service. While he is …
The jungle tour was a freebie from the hotel as part of their timeshare promotion. After our requisite Huevos Rancheros at Prego we were prepared for our day in the jungle and a tequila factory tour. One reason I picked this tour is because of the air-conditioned bus. As we loaded up and I noticed the floor is wet so we shifted around to stay try …
After our trip to yesterday we stayed close to the hotel today. I got up early, before dawn and watched the sunrise over the ocean. Next was to snag the very coveted shady chairs by the pool. I finally figured out which ones were shady all day. I took the Puerto Vallarta towel I bought for yesterdays boat trip and draped it across my now favorite …
The third day was snorkeling in a marine sanctuary called National Marine Park Los Arcos. This incredible marine park is situated between Las Gemelas and Mismaloya. We jumped off the back and snorkeled thru the arches and saw the amazing birds and beautiful fish. These islands seem to float on the surface of some of the most profound waters of the …
We had purchased some time in a vacation time-share deal and it was now or never to spend them before our points expired. Marty had never been to Mexico so off we went to Puerto Vallarta. Happily Alaska Airlines flies non-stop from SFO to Puerto Vallarta in about 3 ½ hours. Snorkels packed along a couple of bathing suits and sunscreen we were ready …

Historical Traveler Reviews Plaza Pelicanos Grand Beach Resort Puerto Vallarta
just returned from a 1 week stay at the plaza pelicanos. overall it was a great trip. we had asked for a pool view, king bed hotel room and got placed in a pool view with two doubles room in the garden section. when we asked if we could move to a different room we were told the next day we could move. as promised the next day we were told a king bedroom was available in the beach front wing. the beach front wing is still being rebuilt from the hurricane and all the main floor rooms are empty, we found the second floor room had a musty smell and overall not as nice as the garden section so we stayed put. the staff are nice and friendly, always available when you have a question and always trying to help out when needed. the food was fine, two buffet, one al-a-carte,and two pool snack bars. i must admit if i was there for two weeks i'm sure i would have gotten tired of the buffets as the menu did not change a great deal from day to day. the beach area is being rebuilt and not available directly in front of the hotel but it is next door and you can walk towards the downtown from there and see the amount of damage the hurricane did to all the resorts. the las palmas resort, located in front of the garden section looks to be months away from being ready to reopen. it is a 25 min. walk to the downtown area, if you don't stop for the timeshare pitch in every second storefront. we found we enjoyed the walk and got to see what some of the stores had to offer away from the tourist areas. overall we enjoyed our stay at the plaza pelicanos and for the price it was well worth it. i dont think i would pay book price as to move up to a 4 or 5 star resort was not that much more. if you want a central location and can get a good price on it the plaza pelicanos fit the needs and you would enjoy it.
OK Hotel for short stay
We stayed at the Hotel for Two nights in January '03 prior to our week stay in Sayulita (about 30 km north of Puerto Vallarta). 3rd floor room was clean, although smelled a little musty until you got used to it. Buffet food was OK. Ala carte restaurant was good. Pools and pool area was nice although all the chairs were saved by 8 AM. I tossed the towels off two chairs and then moved the chairs to another area. Drinks were strong. Lousy Beach. Staff was friendly and helpful. We then rented a house in Sayulita for seven days. Everything there was perfect.
i thout that the pelicanos was a graet resort.
But it needs a differant veriaty of food for supper.
because everyday it is aways beef, chicken, and fish.
other than that the service was great and the staff was very very friendly.
I liked the fact that there was differant activities every hour.
kudos to the locals for working so hard to make this resort as comfortable and as enjoyable as it is . there are some activities that are not available at this time, but the staff does their best to keep activities going and ensure guests have an enjoyable stay. The hurricane has left a lot of devastation on the beach and it's not the prettiest scene, however the beauty of the ocean and the sunsets are still there. The activities staff keep the resort a fun and lively atmospere to be in. the best part of this resort is the fact that it takes up three proberties, so that you feel like your staying in three resorts. You can relax in a quiet setting around a beautiful pool or you can party hard at another pool where staff will keep you entertained with water polo or dancing or whatever. The food and water are good. The rooms are nicely furnished and very comfortable. The pools and grounds are very nicely kept .
I have to say that this resort was more than I expected considering the price (even though it did not include some things as advertised).
Pelicanos make-over needed
Since the October 25, hurrican, it appears that workers have gone non-stop to rebuild the Plaza Pelcanos. The maintenance staff: cooks, maids, bellboys ect., were exceptional! Management, however, needs a good overhauling. Our vacation began in a horrible, hurrican damaged room and it finally took our travel agent (SunTrips), to make things livable. Most of the time management appeared bothered by our issues: ie. no hot water (NO WATER), no shower curtain, no air-conditioning, no rack in closet to hang clothes, 4 am noisy neighbors, finally, no phone (we never did get a phone - yet, were charged fees to use the phone at the front desk). We would not recommend this hotel.
We stayed here for 7 nights around christmas 2002. We were a bit dissapointed because the pools were freezing cold (not heated at all) and the "jacuzzi" was neither hot nor had any jets, thus making it pretty useless. The beach at the hotel is completely out of commision because of the hurricane, so make sure you call the hotel itself to see if the beach has been restored. Instead, they offered free buses to a different beach, but that beach was awful and had (literally) abandoned cars and trash all over the place. Also there was no free "non-motorized watersports" at all, again because of the hurricane but of course, we didn't learn that until we showed up so call ahead. On the plus side, the main courtyard is very nice looking and the staff was usually friendly and helpful, except when they are trying to get you to attend a timeshare presentation (which happened to us about once a day, sometimes from the same staff member). The food was tasty, especially breakfast. Almost everything had meat so watch out if you are vegetarian. Overall, I wouldn't recommend Plaza Pelicanos. But I would definitely recommend Puerto Vallarta in general, we still had an amazingly good trip!
I stayed at the Plaza Las Glorias a few years ago. It was the nicest 3 star hotel I have ever stayed at! It was clean, the people were friendly, and the food seemed good, although I didn't eat there much (wasn't there all inclusive). My only complaint was that the beds were hard, but otherwise, we found it quiet, friendly, and comfortable. At the time we were there, you could use the facilities of the hotel on either side of us as well, so we spent a lot of time during the day at the Continental, as there was more activity around the pool there.
I just recently got back from a week vacation in Mexico where I stayed at Hotel Pelicanos. I must say I wasn't expecting much...but when I arrived I couldn't believe it. This resort is so nice and so much fun. The staff is awesome, the food is great and there is always so much to do. The resort is very clean and well kept and they ensure you have the best possible trip ever. I reccomend Pelicanos to young people and families. I can't wait to go back!
WOW, Will definately stay here again next year!
This resort is the first one I have been to in Mexico, but I will most definately stary there again next year!!! The hospitality and service is second to none and the people are absolutely amazing!
