Drugs, Drunks, Dysfunctional Management.... DISASTER!
This horrible place is a pathetic dump where not even a manatee should stay! As far as I am concerned they stole our money.
We were promised a condo near the clubhouse, and final found our dirty room more than a mile away down a high traffic roadway. After arriving with our child (2years old) we found the A/C off, and DRUGS left over from a previous guest (presumably) in our room, and when we reported it to the front desk manager she asked us "if we had finished them... or could bring them to her!" As if I was going to pick them up.... I have never been so offended by a hotel worker in more than 15 years of travel. I told her I wanted to be moved and she said "Why, your threw the drugs away, why should we move you to a new room...?!" When we visited the pool area, we noticed that most of the other guests appeared to be dangerously drunken men stumbling around seeking more booze or a place to pass out.... which many had near the pool. At one point, I saw a man at the bar showing off a pistol! No kidding!
The list of disappointments goes on and on and on....
The worst disappointment was that the staff and management seemed to not only approve of all of these nightmarish characteristic events, but they were rude, petulent and brazenly obnoxious when we complained. I truly thought that there must be a hidden camera somewhere capturing my increasing levels of shock and horror as a practical joke...like Candid Camera." Unfortunatley, this was no joke, and I am only grateful that we were not hurt and were able to escape as soon as possible.
If you stay here...you are either a fool or more likely you are just tired of sleeping in your car or cardboard box.... ENJOY!
Rotting fish head
My extended Florida family organized a reunion around a wedding vow renewal ceremony at the Plantation Inn and Golf Resort in Crystal River/Homosassa Springs, Florida. "Find another place," is our thirty-member consensus. During the weekend event our accommodations, some 12 rooms in total, were regularly ignored by housekeeping. I became too familiar with the service entrance while taking out the garbage. PIGR is a poor choice for families with young children, or dads who want to get away from household chores.
Catering was awful. The prepared sample platters were rote, unimaginative and poor quality. In the restaurant, the wait staff and management were incompetent, indifferent and rude. Staff arguing in front of guests ruins experience, mood, and appetite.
It occurs to me now that The Plantation Inn and Golf Resort in Crystal River, Florida hires people who have neither traveled, nor have a clue how even a third-rate establishment treats its guests. They show up with one eye on the clock and the other on their cellphones. I have seen seasonal college temps try harder than these pretenders. As the old cliche goes, "a fish rots from the head."
Plantation Inn and Golf Resort at Crystal River's (Homosassa Springs as we locals call it) unprofessionalism unfortunately seems to start at top and
s(t)inks to the bottom. Just two examples of the upper management's lack of attention include: several rooms were separated by a dangerous highway. The half mile hike on a sidewalkless rural roadway (no transportation offered even to mothers with strollers while the staff zips around you in golf carts) made spontaneous family visting an unreasonable risk. "Surprise" is a dirty travel trick. If we didn't matter to them, you can bet your bait you won't either.
Secondly, at check out when I voiced my dissatisfaction about the prior night's wall frame rattling fist fight and spectacular profanity in the adjacent room that not only woke us up, it terrified my wife and kids, the desk manager admonished me for not calling the police, rather relying on the in-house security....bet I would have been charged for the call. Where was TripAdvisor when my family need it?
As a native Floridian who first fished Crystal River thirty-five years ago, NEVER will I consider or recommend The Plantation Inn and Golf Resort in Crystal River (Homosassa Springs), Florida.
A Total Disapointment
We had hoped that our family reunion/wedding reception would have been in a place of which we could be proud. We were so embarassed to have raved about this place to our 20 guests from all over the country only to find that the condos and rooms were filthy, kitchens poorly equiped, broken washer/dryer, manager was never available when requested, "bartender" poured olive juice into our martini glasses from a gallon jug of olives, explaining that he was not a bartender, dining room hostess could be heard yelling at the wait staff, food was tastless and over cooked, maid service was nonexistant, we took our own trash to the dumpster, the front desk was staffed by rude, confused and inept employees. We were moved from the Presidential Suite because "it was reserved for another party" to the Directors Suite only to have a leaking pipe cause part of the kitchen ceiling to fall down leaving us to a kitchen floor covered with 2 inches of water. The general atmosphere of the Plantation was that of a once lovely resort, now run down and manned by a staff who appeared miserable and overworked.
Found the property to be as predicted on the web. Rating 3 star, adequate rooms, nice lounge, decent dining, wonderful setting for pool & Jacuzzi. Can rent pontoon boats, canoes, etc. Access to Manatee diving. Has golf course on premise, good greens, very flat layout & reasonable cost when staying at Inn. Half-hour from World Woods of Golf, a definite must if a golfer. Inn not overly hospitable, laid back mentality. Expect bugs, it's set in a nature preserve, but part of the untold ambiance. However, probably the best place to stay if in Crystal River.
Plantation Inn is the BEST hotel in Crystel River
Okay, first I have to say, I prefer to stay in Hiltons, RC or FS hotels when available! First time I went to Crystal River to look at property, the only place we could find with availability was a Quality Inn!! Although the Quality Inn was clean, it just wasn't the type of hotel I like to stay in. No offense, honestly. The second time we went, I did some research. The Plantation inn has the BEST facilities in Crystal River. Period. They have a lounge, room service and clean efficient rooms. Not a FS or RC or Hilton property but like I said, it is the best accomadations in Crystal River.
I went to the plantation inn in november 2003 with a friend to play golf had a great time, rooms were not dirty they were spotless, I went back to the hotel in may 2004 with my two sons and the same friend, we enjoyed it just as before, with a special mention to the staff who made us feel so welcome," this year I am returning on april 21 with my wife, daughter, and son in law, thats how much I rate the plantation"
If you like MOLD...
If you like mold, this is your place. Was planning on staying two nights.
One was enough for me!
Needs renovation and cleaning !
Me and my wife stayed here for one night august 6th 2004. We initially planned to stay for two nights but left after just one night. We stayed here for the snorkeling with the manatees. The whole hotel needs a total renovation. We got a Patio waterside room for 135 $ night. We will never stay here again. The room was dirty, there were bugs and ants in the room and bathroom. The beds where terrible and the TV was a joke, and allmost no light in the bathroom. The hotel may have been nice 15 years ago, but now its not ! The only thing this hotel has is location, its perfect for diving and snorkeling, but thats all. The next time we will visit Crystal river we will choose Best Western instead, we visited Best Western and it looked as if it was 10 times better than the Plantation Inn. Im sad to give this hotel these bad comments, but this is what both my wife and I think about this hotel.
My special day was ruined
Where do I begin?
This was my second marriage. I never thought I could find love again after my 1st husband died.
I wanted a special place to start our new life together. After viewing the Plantation Inn web site
we made the drive to preview. We made an appt with "Janet" to go over what was available.
When we arrived, we were told that she was unable to met with us. (We later found out she was golfing)
By phone, we booked the wedding. The wedding was a nightmare. We married at the point near the pool with loud drunken kids.
The room are in need of updating & a good cleaning.
The food was poor quality & service was no where to be seen.
Went asked to speak with "Janet" we were told that she does not like to be disturbed on her day off.
Our special day was anything but special.
Fantastic in every way
Had a fantastic week at the plantation inn, BEST PLACE WE HAVE EVER STAYED. Staff wonderful, loved the manatee experience and their sunday brunch is too die for. Will definatly be visiting again the near future.

We're off to visit Bryce and our grandkids. We got an unfortunate start yesterday. We had to go to the RV dealer before leaving Sarasota to have a new hubcap installed on the back right wheel. On the way there, a check engine light came on. We went to the Mercedes dealer who after about 5 hours, was able to repair ...
... that had some success. The New York Times ran an article about Weeki Wachee and profiled some of the mermaids, it showed them as a tough, no-nonsense close knit group that could work hard and play hard. The park is now a part of the Florida State Park system, so their future may be a bit more secure.
A picnic dinner along the southern banks of the Suwannee River topped off the day.
... we put the boards in the water and went exploring. The water in the bay was not as clear as I expected, but we did see about 8 manatees. Most of them were mother and calf pairs. There were tour groups with snorkelers all over the place. It seemed like they were having trouble seeing the manatees even though they were very close. Again, the water wasn't very clear. We were able to see them much better from standing on the ...
One of the main reasons we wanted to visit Florida was to see the manatees. They are so cuuuuute. They look like a cross between a dolphin and a cow with a big smiley face. They are very docile and come to the Crystal River to eat and rest in the warmer water during winter. We had to leave at 6.30am to get there for an 8am boat trip. We changed into wetsuits and snorkel gear, and watched a ...
