... in, but we caught a bunch of fish, and I got one! Our pro Eric is really great - super nice and really animated.

The guide I rode with today is Fritz. He's pretty great and so is his boat - he's lived in the area for a long while, knows this water very well, and his cell phone ring "What is Love" by Haddaway, so that is awesome.

From the first call to all our subsequent calls and communication to our check in and breakfast in the morning they were nothing but easy to work with and friendly and helpful. I wanted very much to stay longer and enjoy it more.

The first night here I stopped in to get some food and sat at the bar next to an elderly woman. She turned out to be Linda, the unofficial 'mayor' of Baileys Harbor, who knows everyone and everything. She sort of took me under her wing that first night, telling me where to go and what to see and has checked in with me each evening ...

... beach for as long as I can stand the cold and wind, with no one the wiser.

Travel is always an eye-opening experience and I love how it challenges my perceptions and assumptions. Yesterday's drive down the west coast of the lower peninsula (the east coast of Lake Michigan - there are all those qualifiers again) was the first time I truly understood the meaning of the phrase 'Peak Color' in terms of fall foliage. Growing up on the west ...
