... for a little run. That was nice. I miss running and I am really looking forward to running in the fresh aired woods in the Netherlands again. :)
After the run I realxed in front of our room and met our German neighbours. They were just waking up after a rough night! :)
I spent the afternoon at the beach, reading and writing diary.
So Langkawi left a better and more relaxing impression from the first three days. Luckily!
... made a reservation for later that week. After this we treated ourselves to a nice cold beer on the beach!
The Next day was spent entirely on the beach. The weather was great so we rented a couple of sun-loungers and a parasol and didn't really move all day. Not a bad way to spent the day!
We discovered it would be nice to have scooter while staying on Langkawi. We rented one for a couple of days,(about 5-6 euro's a ...

we loved this resort, fantastic room with lake view, lovely food, great pools, beach a little disappointing at the resort due to shells but 100m further down softer sand. We definitely return.

Historical Traveler Reviews Meritus Pelangi Beach Resort & Spa, Langkawi Pantai Cenang
We were fortunate to spend 3 fantastic weeks at the Pelangi Beach Resort in December. Fortunately, we arrived home on the 20th Dec, a week prior to the Tsunami and was shocked and saddened to hear that the resort had been affected. I honestly cannot reccommend this hotel highly enough - everything about it is truly 5 star.
The hotel is set in beautiful landscaped gardens and our room had a huge balcony overlooking the lake and waterfall. The rooms themselves were lavishly furnished and cleaned daily. The two freeform swimming pools both had areas for children, water slides (great fun & not just for the kids!) and pool bars.
The kids club, open from 9am until 9pm was fantastic and offered a wide range of activities from fishing & pool olympics to face painting. They also had mountain bikes for hire which my 7 year old daughter loved!
All 3 restaurants at the hotel (and 2 pool bars) offered great food, in particular the lovely Thai restaurant which also offered impeccable service. The Spice market Restaurant serves buffet breakfast daily - fresh fruit, cakes, croissants, toast, cereal, beef bacon, eggs, omelettes, noodles - pretty much everything you can think of. At night, they offer a buffet for 61MR and lots of fantastic Malay and western dishes (prices from around £4 for a main meal). We tried the beachfront restaurant one night for the BBQ - try to get a table outside as the view along the beach is second to none. Food was fantastic but comparably quite expensive at 74MR. For less expensive but just as good options, try the Beach Garden Restaurant 5 minutes down the beach or the Sun Cafe (5MR away in a taxi). For a night of indulgence, treat yourself to a meal at the beautiful Casa Del Mar which is next door to the resort and just a short stroll down the beach, or the BonTon which also served excellent food. Plus, the 50+ cats there kept my daughter entertained for hours!
The Spa, although fairly expensive, is second to none & the perfect way to relax after a hard day lyng on the beach! They also offer massage on the beach at the kiosk outside the hotel which is more affordable but equally as good.
Anyway... great place, friendly people, beautiful weather & can't wait to go back next year!
Give them time to rebuild it
my family stayed here when the tsumani struck the hotel has 350 rooms which on the day were full to capicity on the day of the wave we were evacuated for two days on our return we were devastated to see the damage caused my advise to you is go somewhere else has the management said it would be months and millions spent before it would be restored to its outstanding beautyon checking out we were informed that the hotel had only 32 rooms occupied and were running on short staff with intermitant electricity and water problems just give them time to recover.
Hotel in Paradise
I stayed at the Pelangi Beach Hotel in May 04 and was saddened to hear about the Tsunami.
I am sure the hotel will do everything it can to return to normal and would encourage people to continue visiting in 2005 and beyond as, from experience, it was a magical experience and I will definitely be going back at some point in the future.
Pelangi Beach - Thank God
Having visited Langkawi in 2003 with my family, staying at the Pelangi Beach Resort, I was devastated to hear the news about the Tsunami that has affected the region. I am pleased to find out having visited the Resort's website that the damage there has been minimal and that everything will be back to normal by the 1st Jan 2005.
The Pelangi Beach Resort was fantastic while we stayed there last year, the staff were so friendly and helpful and knew you by name by the 2nd day of stay! I will certainly go back again to stay there, possibly during 2005, I couldn't recommend the place enough!
The island itself is also one of the most beautiful places I have ever been and I cannot wait to return; the food, the drink, the culture, the atmosphere, the climate, just out of this world!
Must recomend "Shiela's" restaurant too. The best Steamboat on the island, a lovely restaurant set amid lush gardens between the beaches of Pantai Chenai and Pantai Tengah, an alsolute must!
Worth every penny!!!!
Fab resort, the grounds and surroundings are amazing!!!!! People there are lovely and your centrally located for every sight and activity on the island.
SUPERB FANTASTIC LOVELY HOTEL
Pelangi is fab. Rooms were lovely, hotel grounds immaculate and the swimming pool is probably one of the cleanest i have ever used. Even as you lounge by the pool, there's a flag by your sun bed that you wave when you want a drink or something to eat. The staff come running and also give you ice cool towels to cool you down. It doesn't get much better than that! The staff cannot do enough. My boyfriend proposed to me when we were there and he asked for some surprise flowers. WOW there were flowers everywhere even orchids in the bath and a silk sheet on the bed. Basically its wonderful, All of restaurants serve excellent food. The only thing i would say ( and this is not a moan really) is that the breakfast is quite expensive but there is a vast choice. We used the unique breakfast bar about 5 minute walk from pelangi very very cheap good food and full of local charm. As the name suggests it does only serve breakfast then closes late morning. Turn right as you leave the hotel grounds and its on the road side.
We had booked to stay at Berjaya Hotel resort and spa but changed our minds. Whilst we were there we went for a look around this hotel and Pelangi is far far superior. Pantai Cenang beach is one of the best on the island and has definately the most services ie bars, however these are very discreet and and informal. If you stay at Pelangi you cannot fail to have a great time.
Relaxing, luxurious resort. Something for all.
Recently stayed for a fantastic 6 nights at the Pelangi.
The rooms are all contained in reproduction Malay wooden houses, but with air-con, tv, showers etc, and are mosquito proof. They are beatifully built and well maintained. The beach is right next door and is well set-up for sunbathing with plenty of sun-beds.
Despite it's size the resort manages to feel spacious and relaxed. Staff are friendly, although service anywhere in Malaysia is not always the quickest... especially compared to Maldives, but nothing too serious.
There are two pools which are both very large with swim-up bars, reproduction rocks, waterfalls, bridges etc. They are lit at night (although you can't swim after 9pm).
Restaurants impressed with quality, presentation and choice, although a little pricier than local places. The great thing about Pelangi is it's closeness to the town where there are plenty of choice from trad. Malay to chinese and japanese. Drinks are also less that a third of the price! Some are worth a mention:
Bon Ton (actually a small luxury resort up the road): A 5RM cab ride from Pelangi. Service, atmosphere and food to die for, pricey (we spent 300RM with good wine!), but worth it.
Rasa Restaurant: 300 metres down the road. Great choice of Malay and other foods. Great value and v. high quality. Low price.
UnKaizen: 3 miles down the road. Superb Japanese. Best I've ever had, and a stunning setting on the hillside. Mid-price.
Breakfast Bar: Half a mile down the road. Great for a western breakfast if you fancy it, and low prices.
If you want to rent a car, recommend you grab details at the airport as it's a lot cheaper than doing it through the hotel. Limited stuff to see we though, but worth renting to explore the odd mountain and some further places to see or eat.
We also did Island Hopping trip, and were not that impressed with it.
What a fantastic place the Pelangi Beach Resort is. We have just arrived back from honeymoon, after spending 5 days in Singapore and then 8 days in Langkawi. We travelled with Golden days in Malaysia and recieved 100% customer care.
During our stay in Pelangi Beach we were greeted by the friendly staff, who couldn't do enough to help. The resort itself was extremely clean and welcoming, and the view from our balcony over the sea was beautiful. The room we stayed in was perfect. Theres lots to do while in Langkawi, e.g. island hopping, island tour etc. all of which are very cheap.
We found a great eating place at the paddy field museum- Cafe Padi. Jimmy Choudhry, his family and staff were so welcoming. The food is fantastic and so reasonably priced. Well worth a visit.
Anyone planning a honeymoon or special holiday should definately think about the Pelangi beach resort, Langkawi.
We stayed at the Pelangi in Febuary 2003 for 2 nights and thought the place was lovely! The staff were very friendly: always saying 'hello' when passing. The breakfast was immense! There was plenty of choice of different nationalities of food (the nasi goreng was the best!) There are restaurants on site, but also plenty of choice further along the beach. We had a garden room which was only a short stroll from the beach through beautiful, well tended gardens. The rooms were spacious and clean and the beachfront location perfect. I would recommend the Pelangi Beach to those wanting a peaceful, restful holiday.
Really loved it!
We were here three years ago and we had a wonderfull vacation. The resort is beautiful with a great open lobby with a lot of wood. In the evening there a local singers and you can order great cocktails. The resort is not too big and not too small. It had two beautiful pools and a nice beach. The rooms are great and ours had a big terrace with garden/pond view. The restaurants are not expensive and next door, at Casa del Mar, you can also have a great dinner. It is a very nice and peacefull place!!!
