Pavones-- Surfing 2nd longest break in the world

... t deter us, as for the next 3 days we fought the waves and were beginning to catch them in the end. We also really began to understood what it meant to 'starfish' when jumping off the board. The locals made it look so easy, even the kids. It was really fascinating to watch them ride the waves like pro's.

During our stay, Christina and I had the opportunity to celebrate Costa Rica's Independence Day on Sept. 15th. They went independent in 1821 (along with 3 other ...

Osa Peninsula, Oh So Pretty!

... in the two days we spent in Golfito, but our excuse was that it was pouring with rain and I had not yet seen Transformers. Anyway after our movies we decided to explore the town and strolled along the beachfront, eating a delicious lunch at a Soda (basically an open air restaurant in most cases serving a meal of the day for very cheap!) and heading to the Tax Free area to check out the shops. We were quite disappointed with the tax free area and think that maybe the best time to ...

Day # 5 Travelling to Corcovado (Osa)

... strange as they were the only people around for about 10kms. The trip from Sierpe was really interesting, a small boat, about 30 minutes down the river, then navigating into deeper water through some tricky surf and out into the Ocean. Not the most relaxing of trips if you're at all nervous of such waters. After a hairy 5 minutes dodging breaking sets on the river mouth we were out into the Ocean and across Drake Bay to ...

Fantastic Osa Experience

... Don Luis cut a trail in the mountainside with his machete. The soil was thick and spongy and slid under our feet. He complimented us on our stamina. We were very happy to see the road. That evening Don Luis told the story of his coming to the Osa from San Vito. He contested the illegal ...

... famous national park, Parque Nacional Corcovado, is within 30 km, as is Cabo Matapalo, which is a top surfer's beach. Puerto Jimenez is also on the amazing Golfo Dulce, a warm-water gulf which has deserted beaches, good sportfishing opportunities, and really great views. I was really happy that I decided to go here, have I sold you yet? This last week, traveling alone, was like my final exam for this trip. Not only was I backpacking alone, but I also was testing ...

Corcovado National Park and El Remanso

... we did another hike that heading up the hills and crossed the Rio Claro. There was a really cute pair of spider monkeys eating from a palm tree, one had a little baby monkey on her back. In general we saw lots of baby monkeys wherever we went, it must be the season. At the Rio Claro, there was an amazing spot with clear blue water running quickly over the rocks. We were hot and sweaty (and stinky) from our hike and Ido really wanted to go in, but we weren´t ...

wow, there is nothing here except jungle and beach

... if you can even call it a road, in fact its more of a rock path) has maybe 10-15 dirt driveways off of it. All of them are private residences, some rich and some poor. But thats it. No stores, restaurants, nothing. A dirt path with more dirt paths off it. This place is sweet, too bad its so expensive. We headed down to the beach by following our dirt path road. The one great thing about being ...
